Possible.. Id still prefer a branded adapter for £8, which will have life time driver support. And wont lag

I have the one from Ebay ....generic driver.....no lag.....works great.
Wouldn't surprise me if it's the same chip inside ....and your just paying for the branding.

what driver is it ? might be able to tell what chip it is from that..
Also that's from a China ebay seller.. Would be near on impossible to return if it went faulty/ Not worth the risk over saving a few quid

I have 2
have had zero problems, quality items - have had them for some time, like well over a year - didn't cost me much more when bought, may well have got them on a daily special from ebuyer or OCUK, gave one to a mate for his laptop so now his wireless adapter is flush with his laptop rather than sticking out like a sore thumb

I will say, I get hreat confidence from it being an Asus branded product. At least you know who you're dealing with.

Would something like this be good for using wireless headphones on a desktop PC?

If this works on osx does anyone know if this is what you need to make a HP notebook pretty much Hackintosh compatible?

Tell me your joking... You call it branded when you're buying it from eBay, ebuyer and or Amazon... Trust me they are 99.9% fake..
Life time driver support? That's a joke right? Plus the trouble with this nano wi-fi dongles (branded or unbranded as I've had a few of both) is that the plastic cracks and falls off and then you're left with something that's a pain to use.

Terrible value.
You can pick these kind of things up on ebay for half the price.
For just a pound more you can get a small dual band ac 433&150Mbps dongle, which works very well because I have one.
"Kind of things" ? This is ASUS not some unbranded crap
omgpleasespamme
16 Dec 15#26
Just what do you imagine the name Asus on a wi-fi dongle actually means? To me it just means Asus decided to take some unbranded crap using a standard chip from Broadcom, put their name on it and charge more for it.

It means that it has been through their internal quality control process - assessed by engineers that are trained to a certain standard.
Bottom line - they have a name and reputation to protect, they also probably have shareholders. Bad news is always costly one way or another - over the longer term.
Warranty, after sales support - and a well established quality control mechanism (Multinational manufacturer of many years standing).
Its a trust thing.

It's consumer grade electronics. If someone is willing to pay nearly 8 times the price for all the over engineering (which probably isn't the case) that's fine but it's not a deal.
I've actually had a couple of these earlier and despite all the extra quality control tests you say this stuff goes through the plastic is still really brittle and poorly attached. When that breaks off the dongle is pretty much useless.

That's why a reliable warranty, is worth that little extra.

I have this it works great connecting ps4 controller wirelessly to PC. Had a cheap one of eBay before hand that had terrible range and lag. You get what you pay for

I've given up trying to justify my post. Some people just don't get the difference between quality and cheap tat. He probably eats smart price food and says it taste branded stuff

A warranty is not worth the hassle for something that costs £8. Plus, try proving it's a design fault with a sample size of 2, can't be done.
Did you even try to justify your post? Nothing you said even came close and some of it was just hilarious. Libertas made the most cogent argument possible with a very poor starting position and should be praised for that.

It's a nice perception, but realistically a little over-optimistic in the current climate. But as we both have no real knowledge, it's just our own perceptions. The "trust thing" being an utterly misguided conception is indicated by the likes of Panasonic employing buget TV manufacturer Vestel to put the Panasonic badge on Vestel's utterly bottom-end TVs. Panasonic's shareholders are well-chuffed at shifting carp TVs at a decent margin. Just before the Panasonic name has been reduced to Panachronic, the shareholders will simply move on to better pickings elsewhere - makes complete financial sense to an investor looking for short-term gain at the expense of long-term return.
