Virtually giving it away, although I still prefer the Lenovo 8" for £50 from Argos (when they were in stock).

Are we being to eager?? No one knows for sure what price Amazon will do these and the to sticks for tomorrow. I'm thinking surely it can't be cheaper than this, but what if?? I'm so tempted now, have it in my basket with tv stick ready to check out with John Lewis!!!

This of the Lenovo A8 which I bought yesterday for £49.99 from Argos (as yet unopened).
Which would represent the best value for money and overall better machine?
Thanks in advance guys.

I know its only £35 but the resolution really should be 800 wide, 600 is not good enough. On that basis i think the Linx 7 for £40 is better.

Was OOS a few hours ago then stocked up again, now OOS again! Does anyone know if this, like the one from Amazon, also comes with adverts on the homescreen?

I need a digital photo frame and they are all more expensive than this despite having poor resolution screens. I know it sounds overkill, but has anyone tried using one for that purpose?

I like your style! I'm sure it would work really well for that. I can't see why it wouldn't, although Amazon might have the odd advert in your photos.

Played it in Currys today and I have to be honest, I was very unimpressed...
Poor screen, very basic looking and I think the Lenovo or Tesco 9" at £49.99 a piece, represent far better value for money...
Anyone else's thoughts?

You can install 1Mobile on a Kindle, which gives you access to the vast majority of apps on the Play Store.
The main apps you'll not be able to get are those that need Google Play Services to work, ie Gmail, Drive, and some others.
I have the Kindle Fire HDX, and my son has the 8.9 Fire HDX. I've just got him this for his mum's house. They're nice pieces of kit and you get a lot for your money. I am an Amazon fan boy, which obviously influences me - I like that all of my pictures are available on all devices (have Fire TV, too), and that my son can access his apps/TV/Movies on all devices.
Something that I like on Kindles is 'Amazon Underground' - Paid for apps for completely free, including in-app purchases. This is brilliant for children. None of this free-app-but-costs-50-quid-to-get-anywhere nonsense. Granted there's limited choice, but it does give some good breathing space for parents who want to let their kids play lots of games, without breaking the bank.
This tablet is good value for money. There are better spec tablets out there (for a bit more cash), but if you buy in to the Amazon ecosystem then this is spot on.

Being new to amazon fire and android for that matter, does Amazon block certain apps or the play store in general? What do techies do with these tabs? Can you root them? Put standard Android ROM?

Except she used an iPad once got excited and wanted One. I'm not paying crazy Mony for an iPad when she will barely make use of the features. I told her from the off she will get an affordable tablet . I'm well aware the specs do not compare I'm not an idiot.

Amazon delivered mine yesterday and it exceeds my expectations tbh. The screen isn't fantastic, but for just watching a couple of episodes of something on Netflix or Prime it's not too bad. My biggest issue is Fire OS. It doesn't let you customise the interface much, and without the Play Store you've got to use the web browser for things like YouTube because there is no dedicated app (!!!).
The parental controls on this thing are great though if you've got little ones. You can set multiple profiles with set time limits, specific applications/games/books etc.
Either way, it performs much better than a £35 tablet ought to. Just bear in mind that for video...well the resolution and quality are where the price point becomes understandable.

Google Play can be installed, along with everything it offers.
You can load up the Google play store with a few modifications and have access to all the normal android apps. See the Amazon thread for this product for details

If you need it enjoy. Try and get plenty of use out of it. Buy what you want but please consider that buying tablets you don't need means increased exploitation of people who mine rare Earth metals. Cheers
Does the Fire 7 support auto sleep/wake when using a case? It doesn't with the folio case I bought for mine. Not sure if it's the case or the tablet doesn't support it?
