I like this phone, has a nice build quality and you can use it either way up, which is a pretty cool feature. Matches most budget devices at this price blow for blow.
Up or down, there’s no wrong way to hold the Alcatel Idol 3 as it’s completely reversible. The first of its kind, it has dual front-facing speakers and adjustable interface to let you make and receive calls from either end.
Superior sound
When listening to your favourite tunes on your daily commute becomes more important than making calls, it goes without saying that the sound emitted needs to be of the highest calibre. Not to worry with the Idol 3, as delivering a clear, crisp sound is what it does best. Decked out with 2 powerful speakers on the front, plus a JBL audio with Clari-Fi to ensure you get a finer audio experience on all tracks, even bringing true sound to compressed music files.
Big screen, slim design
Watching movies, trailers and videos is a visual treat thanks to its 4.7-inch screen and 401ppi to make every detail sharper, while the Technicolor ® Color Enhance injects a more vibrant colour palette with realistic skin tones. To ensure the Idol 3 maintains an overall sleek design for eloquent handling it has been built with slim borders, onall sides.
OneTouch mix for tailor-made music
Play the DJ by flipping the Idol 3 horizontally and pull up two tracks to sit side by side for seamless mixing. You can retrieve from a range of sources and let your creativity run wild as you add your own effects to the tracks.
Powerful camera
The wide-angle 8mpxl front camera means single selfies as well as group ones are sharp and inclusive. On the other hand, if you'd rather not be part of the subject matter, then use the 13mpxl rear camera with fast face focus to capture the moment.

ppi is for a 1080p screen. and gsm arena says it's 1080p...
that's the 5.5.. specs seem to be mixed in with specs for this...
the bottom bit is wrong. it's not an 8 core, it's a Quad-core 1.2 GHz like a 2013 moto g. and its 312ppi not 401

Thats not 100% true. The chipset is the snapdragon 410, whereas the moto G 1st gen used a snapdragon 400. It's based on a different architecture, which gives better performance and efficiency despite running at the same clock speed.
I vote hot for the phone. It's small, compact, very light. The screen is excellent quality despite the slightly low PPI (great brightness, contrast, black levels and colour). The speakers are brilliant for the size, not quite boomsound but far better than most phones (including flagships). I also found it to perform well with minimal lags. Obviously it's not a great chipset for gamers though.

If it had 16Gb internal it would be a much more useable phone.

It technically does have 16GB of internal memory.
Alcatel have 2 versions of the phone, an 8GB Single SIM, and 16GB Dual SIM (more expensive).
Both phones use the same 16GB chip, but for some reason Alcatel have disabled 8GB of it on the single SIM (probably so that they can price the 16GB version higher).
There is a hack over at XDA which re-partitions the system memory so that the full 16GB is available to the user, and it can be used on the stock rom.
