I spoke to Amazon and had to get my friend to contact them as he purchased for me as a gift. Replacement is on its way (got text from dpd).

I asked a friend to order a £250 gift card for me via the registry and it was delivered today through the letterbox when I was out (so noone signed for it). Just got home and found packet was prized open via the glue strip and the gift card has been stolen from it's case (I'm guessing by the delivery driver). I am extremely annoyed. Warning to others, probably safer to buy gift cards using the the deliver via email route.

If you see something to take advantage of, you have to take advantage. In this case a couple of people are taking advantage of £50 who probably don't have that much money anyway and probably earn not far above minimum wage and have the high cost of living to deal with. People take advantage, Amazon loses £50 out of their profit on the goods sold. Amazon still make money, and the point of this deal is to get people to buy from Amazon instead of elsewhere.

Amazon can afford to pay tax but doesn't. This leaves the country with a crumbling NHS, Councils collecting rubbish monthly, libraries and leisure centres closing etc.

What you're saying is effectively that exploitation is only acceptable for big businesses.

This is what happens when you pay delivery drivers minimum wage and set tough targets to meet. Again, big business exploiting people forcing them to crime to supplement low incomes.

Having checked the registration process, I think that this, if abused, would technically be defrauding Amazon because the registration requires you state that you are getting married on a set date in a set location to a named individual. If this would not be true, it is both immoral and potentially illegal. Of course, if you are getting married, then it is an excellent way to get £50.

As I am already married, as much as I would like £50 free (am about to spend just short of £400 on Amazon) It would be dishonest for me.

Wow thats risky as hell. After 35 days you don't even have the option to return it. It says "your guests" have to spend £250, not yourself. So these orders may not qualify.

Reading the terms etc and having a quick look at the registration process there's not much I can see that confirms this is a legal marriage OR to confirm at the end that what you say is true to the best of your knowledge etc. All it says is "Wedding day" that could be taken in many way e.g I could marry the apple tree in my garden this weekend:

There's a big difference between Amazon's tax avoidance (legal) and fraudulently creating a fake wedding for pecuniary advantage. What Amazon does is legal but wrong - they're within the law (probably, if they've been properly advised). The fake wedding is a criminal offence - is it really worth the risk for £50? I don't remotely care if others choose to do it - it's a free choice. But the wiser option might be to stay clear of it.
