Was looking to switch from giffgaff due to bad 4G performance, found ID Mobile that runs on the better Three network and is actually cheaper than what you get on giffgaff! This deal is the best value I could find if you don't call much.
Three has more 4G bands than O2, see details here:
For those who want to be with 3 themselves, you can force them down to either £11 or £12 (£12 for me) for unlimited txts, minutes and 4gb of data

I have repeated mistake of going to Three twice for price reasons, and I regretted in both cases. The coverage for my case was pretty bad ... 4G coverage is also pretty limited. But where you get coverage their speed is OK.
I highly recommend EE (or BT who piggy back them) if you want decent 4G. Superb coverage and speed IMO. They're not cheap but you get what you pay for!

Threes 4g is garbage, the download speed I get now is less than when I was on 3g with three. And the Signal drops out all over the place including my house which is in the middle of a major city. Not recommended.

Three has more bands than O2, which is why it will supposedly perform better given that you have coverage. Living in London I assume coverage is not going to be a problem

If so call your bank and by the time you have explained it to them the money will be back in your account.

I decided to go with iD despite there being lots of bad reviews. Unfortunately I used the uSwitch offer but only 2GB of data showed on my account. After ringing several times they said they'll fix it but nearly 2 weeks later and my account still wasn't showing full 4GB of data. They did give me an extra 500mb of data to say sorry. I have left them as the signal is terrible and 4G coverage does not compare at all to that of EE. Customer services have several times put phone down on me and it takes ages to get through to someone as you have to listen to your usage being read out by annoying automated voice every time you call up. One of the people I spoke to was terrible and rude and kept putting me on hold for ages. Other person I spoke to was helpful but told me conflicting things to what previous person said before they hanged up on me. I was drawn by cheap costs but better to stay away unless you know you get a good signal with Three and if you don't mind running after them if they don't give you the full amount of data.

Worked fine for me for a while in and around West Yorkshire and Lancashire but as soon as you get into North Yorkshire, Hambleton area, good luck getting a signal. Then again I suppose Hambleton has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to coverage. Just a tip, you can get free SIM cards online from, three, o2, etc. Don't register or use these, just put them in your phone and walk around home, work, etc and see what the signal is like. No point asking what is the signal like because they all have good and bad areas. Three share the same transmission sites as EE so are normally the same signal, O2 and vodaphone also share the same sites (there are only really two true networks).

As a Three customer I can honestly say they're terrible. Coverage is acceptable but mobile internet speeds in the cities I've visited are terrible during the day but not bad overnight. I can only conclude that they're massively oversubscribed because at one point they were cheap and because of all these cheap virtual networks that use the Three network. EE or Vodafone appear to be the best at the moment as my Voda company phone is fine and pretty much everyone else I know use EE.

I was with these guys for four months, got overcharged every month, even though on a capped tariff. WORST network ever. They didn't give me any texts on one month and charged me for each one, when I rang and told them they gave me a complimentary texts package, to tide me over until they got their issues sorted, which they charged me for.
The customer service is hopeless, you cannot get an answer from them , and the only way I got to speak to anyone English was to moan on their Facebook page, THAT got a response, but nothing else worked.
If you want a great deal, then try BT, I have changed tariffs twice since I joined just over a month ago, with no penalties, even though it is a 12 month deal , and you cannot overlook the fact you get access to every BT router in the country for free too (almost all, if they haven't opted out of course), that alone makes BT the best option for heavy internet users.
My advice for this company is to not bother, the deals are great but they never deliver what they promise, or don't say I didn't warn ya!

It isn't the coverage that's the problem, I've used Three on a few different devices and coverage is okay, it's internet speed that's the issue. I can have a strong signal and it still takes half a minute to load a simple web page in some locations. A few weeks back I actually decided to get the Speedtest.net app from the Play store so I could start running it in slow spots and taking screenshots as proof. I couldn't even get it to download that's how slow it was. I called up 3 to complain and after taking me through various device settings etc (stuff that didn't need changing as I'm not a fool) they eventually took a postcode and admitted that there was 'work going on on the internet' in that area and I may experience problems for at least the next 10 days. Now this area of the city is an area that's fine at night but has been experiencing these problems for weeks.
Central London around St Mary Axe is another terrible area for the network as well.

Well worth avoiding. I can't believe this 'deal' is so hot when the company is a shambles!
It's actually £5.25 (I signed up last week), but better than nothing. This tariff isn't available from CPW (only has 2GB data) you have to go to ID direct.
Using an ID sim with a Google Nexus 6p. Every time I leave my home or a disconnect from a wifi signal I get an "!" next to the data sign and loose my data connection. I am forced to switch the phone into airplane mode than back to fix the problem. Call Customer Services who agreed this was not good and will fix the issue for me but unfortunately I did not hear back from them.

21 Dec 15#96
Be warned for those in a decent contract, these are rolling contracts so at any time they will cut your allowance once they have taken on their quota of customers. It happened with TPO (the peoples operator) the swines, cut from 6gb, unlimited mins+ texts to 1gb data and 300 mins+ texts and still £15, shocking or what and only gave few days notice, T&C's blah blah when argued, they will be referred to ombudsman and whoever else I can think off for unfair business practices, and this from such an alleged ethical company that gives 10% to charity from your bills.
Overseas call centre and rubbish registration pages that keep crashing, proper cowboys.

Very good deal but Customer Service is very very bad. Couldn't cancel after 1 month. Was forced pay for next 30 days while not using the sim. Never call back when they promise to call. Limited number of people in cal centre as I manage to speak to the same person 3 times out of 4 calls.

Can I echo what others have said about the appalling customer service you must expect from these people. I know most mobile phone companies are poor, but these people take it to another level. Couple that with billing for a plan that has been cancelled, and then making it very difficult to get that refunded, and it makes them a company I wouldn't trust with a penny of my money.

Very tempting but honestly haven't had a problem with Three AYCE. Regularly use 15gb+ data and not a peep from Three. The download speed a re a bit **** sometimes even here in London and the recent £5 increase was a bit annoying. CS from this company scares me a little.

My experience with Three has been very good, been with them for years. There were no extra costs when they rolled out 4G, you just got it. Performance is very good, I get good speeds wherever I happen to go (so far). Most of my time is spent either at home or at work, and so I get away with a £7 per month SIM only deal which gives me 500MB of data. Also I don't pay any extra for calls to numbers starting 08, and I don't pay any extra when I use it abroad.
Customer service is average, I had an issue recently where one individual was borderline rude, and thought he was cleverer than me (which he wasn't), but then called back the next day and spoke to a lady who was far more helpful, and was able to get my issue resolved.
Overall though my experience with Three over the years has been very good.

Im with three paying £18 for this deal. Just gave them a call and mentioned this deal they dropped straight to £13 and offered £12 for a 12 month deal rather than 30 day rolling. So settled at £13 as I dont like to be locked if I can get away with it. They dropped to £13 after 'talking to the manager' aka putting you on hold for two minutes while they twiddle their thumbs, it really wasn't hard at all. I did press them for 5-10 mins to try get them to £11 / £12 on a 30 day rolling but they wouldn't shift. Im happy at Three I cant complain so dont fancy they risk / hassle of a switch.

This is like no other 'poor' service though!! Honestly been struggling with them since September, they can't seem to put the correct contract onto my account, been taking large sums of money out when what I'm using is correct. You ring takes several goes, has to go to some technical dept. customer service can't fix it. They of course don't ever ring back or sort, and so it goes on.... I finally thought I had the contract correct on my account, but noticed they have taken another £70 out of my account on Friday, now owed £230! Can't cancel as took a year out, and don't want to damage my credit score by stopping my direct debit.

When I have moderately decent 4G signal on Three, I'm frequently getting speeds as high as 72Mbit down/20Mbit up - usually somewhere around the 50Mbit mark though, which is fine by me, as home connection is stuck at 4Mbit!
Three will allow tethering, but it often has a limit if you are on pay monthly - even with all you can eat data. The old sim only monthly deals allow unlimited tethering (I am fortunate that I got this deal before it changed). Unlimited tethering on 4G is a godsend!

I've been with most of the networks and can't praise Three mobile enough. Like any network the coverage isn't 100% but I'm constantly lending my phone to friends on EE/02 so they can browse the internet as it's too slow to use for them.

21 Dec 15#141
Voted cold. You couldn't pay me to be a customer of 3. They allowed someone to pretend to be me and order a new handset. They did this from a land line and were not asked any security questions. They also changed the delivery address to somewhere more than a 100 miles away from where I live. I only found out when I got a text. They couldn't give a monkeys that I hadn't ordered it and I had to report it to my bank and the police. Then I had the task to having this address removed from my credit file at my expense. The final p*stake was they sent me a threatening letter saying I owed them £10 when in fact my account was £10 in credit when I closed my account. When everything is good it's good. When things go bad you are well and truly on your own.
bsb007 to nipstyler
21 Dec 15#150
Wow.. I had exactly similar fraud in my account in EE. Someone called them to send 2x Pay monthly SIMS to a new address and without doing any basic checks EE sent them and within 24 hours of receiving the SIMs, they made calls to premium numbers raking up an unbilled charge of around £7.2K. Frustratingly I received a text message from EE after the fraud took place that I am nearing my credit limit and more frustratingly a welcome message for adding two lines to my account after 1 day. Had to report the incident to the Police and EE themselves are doing some "fraud investigations". I bet something fishy in their call centres. Avoid the new operators and don't fall prey into cheap deals, they get your details and mis-use them.

you have grounds for cancellation of the contract between you. I would write to them stating that they have failed the original contract by not providing you what was sold. Speak to your bank about it get them on side. Then state you are terminating the contract which is your right under UK law and give them 7 days to refund you all money's owed. Be strong and be firm with them. It's the only way to get it done. You also have the small claims court as well.

This has to be the worst company I ever dealt with. I joined with their Black Friday deal. First they did not add the double data, after several calls and emails. This seems to have been sorted. Then they lost my number that I was trying to port to them, then they've set up 2 direct debits to go out and to top it all they've added £3.50 of charges on top of my bill. For what I don't know as nobly can seem to tell me & it's not in my account data which I can only access via the ap as the web site is always down.
The customer services is awful, it seems nobody actually does anything to help. Their responses sound scripted and 3 weeks in I'm still calling, emailing & facebooking them to chase up problems I was originally told would be fixed in 3/5 days.
I wish I had taken notice of all the online reviews, especially those on their Facebook page. I've been told I can cancel, but as they are still looking into my porting problem if I left I will never be able to get my original number number back & I am always assured it will be fixed within 24 hours but now for the last 3 weeks their technical team have had it on priority!!!

Moved to Three about a year ago now, mainly because of the free roaming for business travel. Not had any network availability or speed issues abroad or in the UK, and customer service has been great. Thoroughly recommended. I'd personally suggest calling Three to ask if they can compete with ID Mobile and see what you can get, thus avoiding the potential customer service problems that seem to be commonplace amongst ID Mobile reviewers. I just did exactly that and am now on £12/month for unltd calls & texts and 4GB data. Only snag is being in a 12 month contract as opposed to 30-day, but I'm willing to commit for quality service.

Voted COLD. After applying I received an email that I didn't meet the credit check criteria. What!?! I know my credit history is impeccable, I have never missed a payment in my life on my mortgage, credit card or any other type of finance, credit card balances are always paid off in full and I have never ever been declined credit. I checked with Equifax to make sure and I have a score of 507 out of 700. Now, thanks to this decline I have a potential blot against it for the sake of a 2 bit phone contract. You have been warned..

Yes, they maybe are for unlimited internet, but they tend to be tight with the minutes. I realised I can make do without unlimited, so couldn't justify paying 3's prices. I had been with them for years, they wouldn't give me anything for being a loyal customer and infact, they ended my 'one plan' deal, which had unlimited tethering and moved me to an inferior deal.
Its a real shame, because 3 used to be miles better value and stood out from the crowd. I suppose I'm a little bitter towards them for not rewarding a loyal customer.

Luckily i use more data then calls and text so it works out fine for me and now they have put the teething back up a bit to 12gb its even better...I don't use anywhere near that don't even use much teething and only about 3gb all in a month
most of it is the apps keep updating But you do need to be careful were you go for extra minutes because like TPO the peoples operator they have reduced there plans by half and you still have to pay the same price.
ID did it on black Friday gave you double now back to normal so you really do have to shop around now to get good deals.( for anyone that don't use a lot of mins, text, data there is Freeasyougo you get £5 free every month and No top-ups unless you run out then you can always top-up but you don't have to if you stay in the £5.

I would stay far away from this crew. Purchased a sim only 3 weeks ago and its never been activated as they are unable to do so. After being told by customer service over the phone that I needed to get it fixed in CWP, I went into store so they could call up the same people and have it 'fixed'. "This will be fixed within 3 working days" says CPW. 4 days later I call up again as not activated. After first call where I was told my security questions failed, I got through on a second call with the same security questions to be told "your DD is incorrect, please call sales" "You mean you can't transfer me?" "No please call again and speak to sales". So I call back a 3rd time (4th time in total), press 1 for sales, go through to customer service again, get told I am being transferred to sales, get pushed to CPW sales, "sorry you need to speak to ID sales", get transferred to ID sales, except get transferred back to CS, "oh sorry ID doesn't have a sales department "please can you transfer me back to CPW sales then" "sure", so get pushed back to CPW sales who say there is absolutely no way they can fix my DD.
So I give up basically. They are asking me to visit the CPW store every time there is a problem, which I just can't do. And its clear they are incapable of setting up my DD over the phone as they "have no sales team".
MY advice: ensure EVERYTHING is correct in your order if you go with these as if there is one problem, it appears they are incapable of fixing it. The good news is that they at least have a store if (when) calling them up fails. I am praying that they are telling the truth about the DD not working because I'd hate to see a month down the line them charging me given I don't know how I can cancel my contract.

If they have a twitter account, post it on there. Many companies respond way more quickly if you publicly shame them. Just a quick post to say that I have had a good experience in swapping from giffgaff to iD mobile. The sim came the next day and I have successfully ported my number across, I registered via the app and all appears to be set up ok, 4GB data showing. I was with giffgaff for years and was sorry to leave but it came down to price in the end. I have to say, it feels like a new phone, hadn't realised how much I had adapted. Depends where you are of course. I have travelled back from London to Chester this evening though and apart from very small gaps, have had a connection all the way, that has never happened with giffgaff. Hopefully I am not speaking too soon!

Whoops, should have said.....travelled on the train I meant!
Before you asked the redemption process is much easier now and I have been using it for over 3 years. Just set up reminder on your calendar to download electronic bill from Vodafone website and upload it to mobiles.co.uk website, simple as that.

I think Three make their prices up on the day. Having called them several times I tried the on line chat and was offered unlimited text & mins plus 4gb data on a monthly rolling contact for £13. That's 1p more than I was paying pre price hike. others seem to have got this for £12 though but they wouldn't move on the price.
Will be interesting to see how Three survive next year when roaming charges are dropped and the use abroad seems to be the sticking point for people leaving Three.
Opening post
Three has more 4G bands than O2, see details here:

This looks better than giffgaff right?
I highly recommend EE (or BT who piggy back them) if you want decent 4G. Superb coverage and speed IMO. They're not cheap but you get what you pay for!
The customer service is the only vague grievance I have with Three.
Three has more bands than O2, which is why it will supposedly perform better given that you have coverage. Living in London I assume coverage is not going to be a problem
If so call your bank and by the time you have explained it to them the money will be back in your account.
Orange 3 tmobile and o2 have over charged me.
one call to bank and refunded instantly.
I get a mix of speeds and must have a cell tower near my local tesco as when I am out walking the dog I get over 25 mbps which is not too shabby at all.
4gb is enough for most people. Well enough for me!
And you get the tethering, free roaming, free calls to some 08 numbers, etc.
Stay clear, their customer service is abysmal.
I'll have to switch company from giffgaff since I won't be able to use my old knowhow data only sim anymore since my new Lg G4 is not dual sim, was thinking about switching to ID but I keep on reading bad things about them.
I pay £12 for only 3gb with giffgaff and to be honest I'm not very impressed with theyre internet.
Does any one know if ID are any good?
There's a nice BT 12month SIMO here for btbroadband customers:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/bt-mobile-simo-3gb-500-mins-unlimited-texts-12-months-only-10-per-month-2351186?p=26876102
£10pcm for 3gb and 500mins.
£30 Amazon voucher and hopefully £40 quidco
And seems ok so far, you can also add the number to a home signal booster from
3, I decided to stay with 3 and managed to get them Down to £8 a month for 600 minutes unlimited text and 1gb for those that don't use much data.
So I'd still try as a new customer. They'll want as many customers as they can get
The customer service is hopeless, you cannot get an answer from them , and the only way I got to speak to anyone English was to moan on their Facebook page, THAT got a response, but nothing else worked.
(insert smiley face here)
Central London around St Mary Axe is another terrible area for the network as well.

I left Orange for that reason about 5-6yrs ago when they joint with T-Mobile they started decommissioning loads of there mast and the internet and the sound when making calls was really terrible so i left and been with Three ever since.
Switch went flawlessly: sim arrived quickly and my number was ported across rapidly and without a hitch.
Their app keeps you updated on how your allowances are going. I have to say I'm pretty impressed so far
25th Nov - charged £158 instead of £20 called ID promised refund
30th - promised refund, 7 working days
8th Dec - advised money was credited to my account but would receive a refund by 11th. Cust service advisor promised to call me - he didn't
11th - refund not done, promised it would be refunded by next Friday (18th) offered £5 compensation, refused and offered £15. Spoke to Supervisor.
14th tweet and DM sent to Id mobile, offered card refund or cheque, took card refund, social media team phoned me at 1730hrs and took card details for a refund. Advised 3-5 working days.
18th refund received!
Don't touch this company!!'
I did some research and it's not just me. Wish I had initially. On top of that the phone signal was awful in our home.
So needless to say I cancelled the only way i could think of, via their facebook page. Did get a response after 24 hours. I also cancelled the Direct debit ide set up.
Now with Giff Gaff, much better, seemless process & great signal.
Moved the SIM I had with them to LIFE Mobile and have so far been impressed.
From their FAQ's: Please note that we do not allow tethering on any of our current plans. If you do use this service it is likely to use up large amounts of your data allowance very quickly, and you will be liable to pay any charge that may occur if you go over your allowance. Please check for updates on our website as this may change in the future
Overseas call centre and rubbish registration pages that keep crashing, proper cowboys.
If your on a decent contract then my advice is to not risk it as you will find it extremely difficult to find a good data contract nowdays.
Thanks for taking the time to explain though. You got a good deal there
Will probably go for the EE 4gb 12m deal on mobile phones direct, which works out about 10 quid pm after cashback. Besides EE does offer better speed in London from my experience.
I have had unlimited data plan for £14 a month for the last 2 years for both me and my son - last month he used 42GB and not even a murmur from Three...
Stay with your overpriced networks and leave the bandwidth for us please.
Customer service is average, I had an issue recently where one individual was borderline rude, and thought he was cleverer than me (which he wasn't), but then called back the next day and spoke to a lady who was far more helpful, and was able to get my issue resolved.
Overall though my experience with Three over the years has been very good.
Every one in a while when I make or receive a phone call, there's a robotic interference. Have to hang up and redial.
All in all, getting off this network tomorrow when I receive my EE sim.
Avoid this lot, they are the worst of the worst! :disappointed:
Three will allow tethering, but it often has a limit if you are on pay monthly - even with all you can eat data. The old sim only monthly deals allow unlimited tethering (I am fortunate that I got this deal before it changed). Unlimited tethering on 4G is a godsend!
4G for free in major city's is good but the 3G is more than quick enough in my opinion
The point you enter a contract is the point the trouble begins!!
Customer service is VERY BAD, no where near as good as GiffGaff
I ran over by 115mb and was charged 115 quid! The account showed the data for the new cycle but in small writing said "available tomorrow"
Cancellation was VERY difficult the final bill ended up being 200 pounds! Cancellation fee, 30 days notice, DD cancellation fee and 115mb!!
Back to giffgaff where i had NO surprise bills.
there sim only deal is also extremely good, there customer service team has never dissuaded me from their service
But now gone to talktalk after they messed up my sim only at first i complained and now get 1500 mins ult txt and 3gb 3g data for £4.00 a month.
Its a real shame, because 3 used to be miles better value and stood out from the crowd. I suppose I'm a little bitter towards them for not rewarding a loyal customer.
most of it is the apps keep updating But you do need to be careful were you go for extra minutes because like TPO the peoples operator they have reduced there plans by half and you still have to pay the same price.
Also rang and it took 4 minutes to get through the automated system, even though they answered in 3 seconds when I was actually put through.
Thanks again
Or would it come with one of those sims that covers a few sizes?
Still it hasnt stopped me using tethering, and now that ive got chromecast as well as ipads etc im using just over 100GB data a month, so i darent even bother asking for a better offfer.
Anyone know the cheapest place to unlock an iPhone 5S and a 6 from EE if you don't have a contract with them? It looks like it's going to cost me over £25 each. Failing this, I might have to get a sim only with Life, but the data is only 3G.
Got both my issues resolved very quickly using this method.
