Does the SIM from EE have a activate by date? I probably won't need to use this until the end of January.

Put it in a phone first.

Most MiFi devices can send and receive text messages, You just need to connect to the MiFi's WiFi network, then using the web browser on your computer, type in the MiFis IP address.

Is it on pay as you go? Or on contract?

a cheap spare 4g phone should do the job

Doesn't work on the osprey. It only sends texts to proper full numbers, it won't send a text message to a short number which the EE one is I think 150. I tried it earlier in the week.

Doesn't the Osprey 2 Mini power down its WiFi after a short period of inactivity, and that you have to manually press a button on it to get the WiFi working again? If so that's going to be a massive pain.
The original Opsrey (which I have) doesn't do this and WiFi is on all the time.

Not sure that's totally correct!!
From what I understand you have to order the SIM so as you receive it before the 30th Dec 2k15 It then says you have 2 weeks (14 days) to top up the SIM with £10 to be entitled to the 200Gb (100GB X 2 months) Source = http://shop.ee.co.uk/campaigns/christmas-sim-from-ee/thank-you
Now what I'm not clear on is what happens after the first month expires? Does one need to top up another £10 to gain access to the second months FREE 100GB??
Anyone know?
Cheers

Frick! Just used 10£top up on Christmas sim today. Don't want to spend another 30£! Should have gone for this one.

That's fine. Just take the 1 month rolling contract out:
1. Device cost: £9.99
2. Choose lowest monthly contract: £10 for 1GB (30 days)
3. Cancel as soon as possible.
Total device cost: £20
Put in your xmas sim, this way you'll have 200GB over 2 months with the mifi for £30. A better option than buying the £29.99 for 100GB which only lasts 30 days.
May be better for some if they don't want the hassle of credit checks etc.

Decent deal as the SIM is worth £10.
Getting a dual SIM phone soon to use with the EE SIMS, so not really needed for me, but HUKD wouldn't be HUKD without making you buy things you don't really need.
Trying to justify this... Will make my phone less hot not having to tether?

Mine is also unlocked and won't send 3 digit texts.

Just get the Huawei one from iD for £20, cancel the contract (you will have £20GB to use on Three network from iD) and stock the EE card inside. Got it unlocked and works great with EE card inside.

the second 100GB goes on automatically without further top up, on my 3rd promotion sim and never let me down to date.

Trawling the EE forums confirms the Mini powers down after 30 mins of inactivity. My Osprey 1 doesn't do that. Their is a settings page on the CPW Huwaei one to disable auto power down but not on the EE Mini 2 AFAIK.

There's a long thread about the 2x100gb for £10 Christmas Sims here
Yeah i did look in the setting but couldn't find it..It's a real pain because in my case it affects the mobile phone you have to turn off an on every time the osprey turns itself off.

Keep looking for deals on the bigger Oprey or even fleabay. My home broadband/bt line currently has a (2 week old and counting) fault so I can leave the MiFi plugged in 24/7 upstairs where 4G signal is at full tilt (30-40Mpbs).

thanks Mitster. I have got this from Curry's instore now.
the lady who did the transaction said, I wont be charged for the 1GB data sim £10 until the end of the month - which is slightly puzzling. Did you have the same and how/when did you cancel?

So hot, if I could vote twice, I would  £26.99 for a 4g mifi (with 10% discount code)!!!
Hotter than the face of the sun :sunglasses: EE Christmas sim in (transferred £10 from previous summer sim, so 400gb for £10) AND another 100gb to use - if EE don't do another promotion in the new year - included in the price. Super fast speeds too! An embarrassment of riches.
Seriously, how this isn't over 1000 degrees is unfathomable. Thanks OP!

just picked one of these up, and have a question, ordered a payg 200gb 2 month PHONE Sim which needs activating by 26th December, and my Mifi has the 100gb DATA Sim included, my question is if the included DATA Sim is left unused for the 2 months that I'm using the PHONE Sim, will the 100gb on the DATA Sim still be waiting? nothing on the data Sim suggests that it's already active or that it needs to be activated before a certain date, unless I've missed it?
hope that makes sense
