A stated price is simply an invitation to start the purchase. Contrary to popular belief no retailer is required by law to sell you anything at any stated price.
They are not even required to sell you anything at all. You are invited but nothing more.

That's annoying. Anyway the label stated £11 at my local but it scanned at £5 so happy days.

Uh, surely if the price is advertised, that is false advertising no?
luckyfives
22 Dec 15#24
false advertising is when a seller makes false claims about the product itself e.g. cola is great for your teeth, it doesn't relate to the price of the product. Although retailers aren't obliged to sell to you an advertised price many honour the price anyway so it's always worth asking

Well they ought to read up on it before spouting as it has been found to be safe in the doses used in soft drink etc..

This is a usual Christmas deal price, along with their, and other stores, beer reductions just to mention a couple of Christmassy product requirements.

Not quite correct. If goods are offered at a particular price and the offer is accepted, then the seller is obliged to supply at that price and the buyer is obliged to pay the price, and THAT is the simple law of contract codified by the Sale of Goods Act 1893 as amended to date.
That means, if you see something on the shelf in a Tesco store that is either marked with, or indicated to be a particular price, and you take it to the checkout, the store is obliged to sell it to you at no more than that price because in law you have accepted the offered price.(Frontline employees can't be expected to know the intricacies of contract law, so in practise, if you have a problem, you might have to get them to call someone who does, such as a duty manager).
If on the other hand, you ask the store to confirm the price, that is different, because it means you have not yet accepted, so the store can just say its wrong and change it.
Perhaps you have misunderstood the point. What is being said by several posters is that they are not finding the reduced prices in some stores. There is no obligation on a group such as ASDA to offer the same price in all its stores, unless of course it had 'informed the public at large', for example by advertising nationally that the lower price was at ALL their stores.Stores groups that have several, or a large number of store are past masters at avoiding falling into THAT trap, by such devices as including in their advertisements such as 'at participation stores, or 'check with your local store to see offers', or 'until stocks run out' or even 'until present stocks run out', to name just a few.
So I say well spotted and heat given to the OP, and to others, lucky you if you found the offer AND stock at your local Asda, and tough luck if like me you did not.

Sorry that is not true at all.
No seller; anywhere in the UK is obliged to sell you anything at any price.
They can list a PS4 for £1 and then refuse to sell it to you at the till should they wish.
Feel free to argue against it but you will be wrong.

No. It is you that is wrong, but if you still think you are right, quote any leading case judgement on which you base your statement. If you wish to parry words with me feel free to continue, but unless you have a legal background and are up to date on contract law in England and Wales, you will be wasting your time.
