it sort of is, I've been able to download youtube videos and view offline on my phone for a few weeks now, even though it tells me youtube red isn't available, I still seem to get that option.
Also google music gets you 10% off in the play store on apps etc. Another undocumented "feature".

I've just got a 3 month free trail with my new phone which I have yet not activated. Though I must by end of Jan. Would this extend then to 6 months for £1. its 145 mb per hour approx on Sonos I guess the same on other devices as its 320 Kbps. I am lucky to have a 128 GB iPhone 6 and have about 80GB stored, non of this 3333 track limit rubbish from Spotify. (I download at office or relatives unlimited super fast internet) you can also stream from iPhone to Sonos, so saving your data. Or just listen offline through headphones etc

Shouldn't use much, music uses a LOT less data than video streaming, still a bit more than emails/browsing but still not much, unless you have a really tiny data allowance I wouldn't expect it to be an issue.

I have often checked the data it consumes and regularly stream upwards of 2GB per month from my own uploaded collection (but not worried due to unlimited data). I wouldn't worry if you have data alerts turned on, as you get plenty of warning as you get to your pre-set limits and Google Music will cache a lot of tracks.

Unsubscribed and clicked on the deal but it said for new users only :disappointed: I think I would have to wait til my sub officially ends (on 5th Jan) so hope it's still around then.
You may have to pay via rewards on desktop only. I had to cancel my sub one time in order to pay by rewards and I remember I had to change my payment methods on the desktop.

Spotify have a 99p for three months offer on but I'm not eligible for that either, probably used it already. Though they do have three months for £9.99 that it looks like everyone's eligible for.

I'm sure the 3 month trial is just for Nexus 5x or 6p. I had to pay a £1 because I've had a free trial before but it was free when i switched and used other google accounts. Tried it on my old Nexus 5 and it was only showing 1 month trial, I then tried the same account on my 6p and its showing 3 months.

Good price, but its a load of pap compared to Spotify both in terms of music selection and user experience. Almost 50% of my Shazamed music cannot be found on Google Play.

IMO google play music is the best streaming service (for my musical taste anyway) It's better than Apple music because you can select "downloaded" only if you're not connected to WiFi.

My kids are currently on a free 3 month trial and once that finishes I'll probably go onto the family plan.... but it does annoy me a bit that Google equate 1$ = £1 plus US subscribers get other benefits such as Youtube Red

Bigger and better. The only superior streaming service is Spotify IMO. Lots of very good features, decent bit rates for streaming, if it's missing anything you can upload 50,000 of your own tracks, Play music offline, etc etc.

When I did the Google trial I was able to listen to any album from the store, but with Amazon it is only selected albums. It is probably ok for chart music, but as a rock fan I am finding it to be really limited. For example, the only Placebo album on there is their live one. Another example is Queen - if you want to listen to We Will Rock You you will have to settle for the Five version.

Depends on the quality of the stream. I'm not sure what it is on Play Music, but if you imagine that the average 128kbps (fairly low quality) album is ~30-40MB then that should give you an idea.

Tip: buy your Play vouchers when they are 15% off or better at Tesco etc and get the club points (300) if you buy £60 worth batches. Use vouchers to pay for subscription (you need to set this up in your google play account) so about £8.50 a month
i.e. plan ahead, you won't want to cancel after 3 months or buy a CD again!. Also you have 17 Beatles albums from midnight tonight, 224 tracks of the best music ever FREE, worth it just for that.
