This looks like a decent phone for the price and much cheaper at Argos than anywhere else as far as I can see. I've been looking for something around £50 with 8GB and a camera with flash and this fits the bill.
Specifications:
4.5" screen, 218PPI, 8MP rear camera with LED flash, 5MP front camera, MediaTek 1.3ghz quad core CPU, 1GB RAM, Mali-T760 GPU, 8GB storage, MicroSD, 4G, accelerometer, digital compass, GPS, removable 2200 mAh battery.
Order with FastTrack to get an additional £1 off.

Picked one of these up over the weekend and have been extremely impressed. Is a far better phone than both the Xperia E4G and Moto E 4G, owned both and I'd recommend the A430 over them every time.

Thanks - spec listed on Argos is very limited. I'll add this to the description.

Looks like a good first phone going by the spec. Can only find a few reviews but they look reasonable.

VF Prime 6 better at this price range.

Which is £70 so not exactly the same price range, this has cost me £54 taking account of the voucher. My wife also said Prime 6 was too big did not fit in her pocket she didn't want 5" screen. Also if you don't want to use Vodafone you will need to unlock a Prime 6. Agree it's a good phone though if I was spending £70 on a locked phone I would personally have got the Moto E.

I know nothing about phones. My husband has a zte blade v, but has problems as all the google stuff keeps updating and using up all the space. He has no games and the only apps he uses are google ones, so it's frustrating. Would this phone suffer from the same problems?

Go to Play store > settings set auto update to off
Install Sd maid run all options on that you tidy up
On dialling screen dial *#9900# then choose delete dumpstate then back out to home screen
That should free up some space without losing any personal data
No this phone will not have the same problems. With 8GB of storage you can update installed apps without running out of space. ZTE blade V only has 4GB which is nowhere near enough to deal with the new versions of the google apps.
Please do not follow other advice on this thread to block updates or try to move important apps to the SD card, this will almost certainly make things worse.

It's a system used to be able to talk to someone else without possibly standing next to them.

Think I'd probably rather go with a Sony E4 or E4G from Asda at that price range TBH. OK if you absolutely want an unlocked phone and can't afford/don't have time/confidence to unlock it (under £3).

Agree E4G probably better than this, although that's presumably an instore deal as Asda don't sell mobiles online? So you would need an ASDA near by and for them to have stock.
Generally buying locked and unlocking will get you a better phone at the same price range - but I've read a few comments on HUKD from users unable to unlock their phones - eg Vodafone Prime 6 thread has a comment saying 3 eBay sellers said their phone could not be unlocked. I'm sure most of the time it's fine - but I'm risk averse.

What size sim does this phone take? Googled it but could not find the information, thanks

It takes micro sized sims. I know because I've just had to cut mine to fit. 2 hours to find the tool, 10 secs to do the cut!

Ignore this person. Link2sd is unlike any other "move apps to sd" app. It's a very sophisiticated bit of software, it really works and moves any app with all it's associated data. I have over 100 apps running fine on my Blade V using this.

Can it be upgraded beyond Android 4.4? The links to the spec is unclear whether Marshmallow is the latest version of the OS in general or the one available for this particular phone.

i doubt this will get any update from its current OS
Installing an app that requires you to root your phone and add a secondary ext4 partition to the SD card is not going to be a good choice for someone who, by their own admission, "Knows nothing about phones."

Yes ignore all the horror story reviews of that app AND the fact it needs a rooted phone. All sd card apps are a bodge and crap

rooting = good. link2sd works = good. It's a godsend for low-memory devices.

Thanks for the reply. I think the lack of Lollipop is a deal breaker since my father is used to using 5.1 on his tablet.

Bought one but waiting for micro sim to arrive. Anyone know of a retailer in the UK selling a half decent case for phone. Plenty available on Ebay via China but would like one ASAP if possible!
