A completely fresh take on the action shooter genre, Splatoon’s online matches*** pits two teams of four players against one another competing to claim turf by covering it in their team’s colourful ink. Not a good deal sadly.specially considering those 2 games are digital so not saleable/ swappable if you want different games/want the system cheaper.
a decent deal for Wii U Premium would be around £180 with 2 games.

Surprised that premium consoles are still holding their prices this well - was much the same price this time last year.
Do they still make the basic versions?

Yes, I bought it from Rakuten a month or two ago for £127, bought a 32gb memory stick (£5) to go with it and splatoon for £18, same place ... Bargain!

This feels overpriced because it only comes with two games and said games are also digital-only so better deals are bound to rise.
Darn Xenoblade X is gonna make me finally use a 32GB USB stick 'cause the 32GB of storage my Wii U has isn't enough to download the Xenoblade X Data Packs in order to run the game faster.

You could always just uninstall anything you don't plan on playing whilst binging on XCX and then reinstall. I think I've got around 10GB spare for the data packs, just if not I know I can temporally uninstall a few things to get there.

Ive read that XCX runs fine without the huge data patches, see the article below. Ive pre-ordered from Amazon and have no room whatsoever to install the data packs.
The content on it tends to be used a lot so while that's a good idea not the one I'd go for.

This aint a bad deal but it aint great either. This time last year I got the Wii U Premium with Physical copy of Mario Kart 8 for £190...
Also bought the digital version of Splatoon for £25 from CDKeys.
All in all, its 'ok'.

I got the bairn a Wii u bundle last year that worked out cheaper than this and also a iPad mini 2 (179.99) cheaper than a deal got mega hot the other day. Some things just haven't dropped in the past year (they were super deals last year).
It may not look like it's a whole faster but it definitely makes a difference in speed. Still annoyed that LCU took like 1min to load to the main game.

You can buy Splatoon quite easily for around £20, lets say £25 max for arguments sakes and Mario Kart is easily picked up around £30. Take that off the cost of this deal and you have £175 left to spend on a black wii U premium and you have 2 physical copies of the game.
So have to say on the face of it, is not really a great deal, just best for the moment perhaps.

Gamer_U
16 Nov 15#30
1-3GB and if all data packs are downloaded then you'll need about 10GBs.
Doesn't look like there's much of a speed difference, or at least not enough of a lag to bother me. Cant be doing with having to delete stuff to allow for the packs so its great its pretty good in the stand alone disc format.

I honestly dunno where it is £30 "today", but have seen it that price before. Have not been shopping around for MK8 as waiting for a console bundle. I see Amazon however have it for £35 at moment without flubit faffing required. Not like you to be picky Gamer-U  I was being generous with valuing Splatoon at £25 as anyone should be able to get Splatoon for £20ish, but happy to revise to this: buy both versions of the games, you get the physical copies and have £170 left over to spend on a Black Wii U Premium. So I remain convinced this is not really too great a deal.

Hey guys I have a serious question. I know you can transfer the 3ds to anothr 3ds and as long as the new 3ds doesnt have a NNID the two systems content merges. What if I have a wii u with pre-installed content on it and I transffer it to another wii u with pre-installed games. Do they combine also?

You know with the ps4 having deals like fallout 4 and black ops 3 for £280ish, I'm amazed when I see the WiiU still costing this much.
I know they're for different markets, but I find it hard to justify the price of entry for this machine.
Would love to play Mario kart, Mario maker and even give Splatoon a try, but the wii was £180 day one with wii sports. 3 years into the WiiU and its still this price?

I think the reason its held its price is due to the gamepad, If they bundled the Wii U with a pro controller instead and a gamepad as an accessory it would be a lot cheaper

I can't see how Nintendo think people will still pay this much for a wii U when the NX is around the corner and Wii U is already such a dated console with no third party support.
£150 is a fair price IMO, I wonder how many consoles Nintendo are actually still making of the Wii U? Surely production must have lowered a hell of a lot.
MadonnaProject to luckysalt1

The thing about Nintendo you need to realise is this is not a company that is completely in touch with their market necessarily. Their initial success was by default as there was little competion to the model. Since then they have had the good fortune of leeching off of their userbase's overinflated sense of nostalgia. Over the years they have garnered an image their customers subscribe to as a friendly company when this along with apple are some of the most ruthless corporations but hey I see it as a positive as they're still able to get away with stuff their competitors are not.
However recently as we all know, the nostalgia gravy is not working the same way it used to, and people are questioning why gta 4 and gta 5 are criticised for being too samey and every single zelda game is quite literally the same game with a gimmick tacked on. Heck even the wii u is a wii with a slightly more powerful processor, and the wii itself was a gamecube with a slightly better processor.
The thing is, if you can fool people into thinking your products are better, and child friendlier, and held to a better standard then you'd do the same thing. People pay when they think a product will not lead to their little girls ending up preggers and single moms in the future, as much as their sons will not smack hookers like they fear their sons would if they played GTA. What's most interesting is the west would pay through the nose for something sold on a sense of morality, or higher ground, or something which feeds on their ego-complex. People spend more on a nintendo hardware which is the same as the previous but in a different shell, and games which are the same as before in a different shell because it makes them feel good to say "Hey, I don't care about graphics like the rest of you do, I am special, plus my family will be better off playing these non-offensive games, oh and it also reminds me of when I was a kid".
Trust me, it works very well, so don't be shocked nintendo thinks they can get away with charging this much. People allow it.

Supply & Demand. Nintendo and the various Mario and associated Mario spin-offs are always going to be the choice of console for parents with young children. There is not really any competition when it comes to family orientated consoles. Am sure Grand Theft Auto and all those modern shooters are great games, but thats for the teenager and beyond market.
Amazon seem likeliest supplier of a good deal, or a price match even. I am bit worried a really good Amazon deal might be for Prime only customers however.

I think you're getting confused. You see, uh, Miguel(ito), perhaps you're from a different culture but what I said above is something called "personal opinion" in this country. Peple are basically allowed to do this you see. It doesn't need to be fuelled by hatred, or love, it's just an opinion. The same way you are basing your view of me off of 4 paragraphs. Yours is quite a harsh opinion, and something I'd imagine from someone whose mother, wife or daughter I insulted personally. But I didn't, it really shouldn't be personal to you what I think about a game company, I mean sheesh wouldn't it be a bit pathetic and small of you taking offence to something that has nothing to do with you? Please allow me to have my opinion, as I am going to with yours. We don't usually personally attack people for their opinions on stuff here in our free country. Take care, and I hope you become accustomed to civilised societies soon.

Don't you think you contradict yourself?
You say Nintendo are out of touch with there market and yet you clearly put the point across that there sales are based on being child / family friendly.
I would say they are completely in touch with there market, they keep churning out child / family games which are nowhere near as good looking graphically as there hardware could produce, continually go down the cartoony graphics, and they sell, and sell well or they would've changed there strategy by now.

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, holy Christ. You DO realise, I was only stating my opinion about NINTENDO. I never said anything personal to you, I didn't go out insult you, or that other guy above, or say derogatory (and frankly insulting) things about any of you. Yet there you are trying to tear me apart when you don't even know me. How would you feel if I said personal things about you? Jesus christ. I am not the hateful fanboy here, YOU are. Reacting as though I have villified myself by doing something horrific. You're acting as though what I said gave your family cancer. Back off and chill the pugg out.

It doesn't help that ugly lump isn't sold on its own rather than being an exclusive with every Wii U console bundle so if someone's GamePad breaks down and he/she doesn't have warranty then their option is either eBay/CeX. Also worth mentioning they're region locked (the WUPC are region free).

Now about your Opinion, as you can see other people have the same Opinion as I do (please refer to comments above): Your Opinion was not as well structured as you thought it was... please let me give you some more examples:
hum.. have you played Zelda before? it is the same as saying that every Tom Raider, God of War, GTA, Assassins screed or any other game franchise are the same just because they all have gameplay similarities and the same character. That's why they are part of the franchise otherwise they would be creating a new game no? Instead they give all these games a new story and some gameplay innovations / levels, and they had a number / subtitle after the franchise name.
Really? can't we say that for every single console? Basically we can go even further and say that all cars are the same as the first car ever made, they just have a better engine... TVs are all the same as the first, they just have a better resolution...

I can't read all of that. I read the beginning paragraph and the end two ones and I honestly can't even remember why we started to argue. Dammit here's a secret, I have every zelda game, limited edition gold carts and discs and controllers ever released. I even have THIS very bundle the thread is about. I actually purchased it from argos a day after the deal went up. Wanna know what's worse? I even have mario kart as a physical copy and splatoon as a physical copy but got this bundle so I would not need to get up to swap the discs. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't take what I say to heart, I meant what I said about nintendo and its my personal opinion which I understand might suck for others but I hope you realise its when I get attacked and people start personally insulting is when I rage. So stop fighting me and gimme your wii ID. I could really use some mexican friends. (OMG lol just kidding just kidding). That best have made you smile mr sense of humour lol.
