Cut up an onion, carrot and some garlic - put in a roasting dish. Cover with a little bit of olive oil and some red wine.
Score the fat on the lamb with a sharp knife, then put rosemary and bits of garlic in the scores. Season with salt and pepper.
Then put onto the veg in the roasting dish, pour half a glass of red wine over the lamb. Cover with foil.
Put into a pre heated oven at 220 degrees for 10 mins, turn down to 160 degrees and leave for 3.5 to 4 hours.
It's worth it. Trust me!

I add anchovies into the pockets with the garlic and rosemary...they melt into the meat giving a lot of extra flavour...

Why does not wanting halal meat make people numbskulls ?

I think there's now a requirement to label Halal meet as non-stunned as some people object to the slaughter method. They'll eat farmed animals but object to non-stunning. Odd in my opinion, but it takes all sorts.
Heat added as this is an excellent price.

I am not sure of the latest regulations. But I did find that a lot of commercially farmed lamb in New Zealand is halal - simply because they export it all over the world and they get greater economies of scale if its all slaughtered the same way. As with all meat products, if you want top quality from a known source and known slaughter method, you can only guarantee it by paying the price that goes with it - keeps British farmers in business too.

Indeed! IMO, the most important thing with all meat is to ensure it's properly at room temperature before it's cooked and to ensure it rests well (wrapped in foil, so I under cook as cooking continues once out of the oven). For this lamb dish with the rosemary/garlic/anchovies I also always use the twice cooking method. It goes into a very hot oven for 30 minutes, then out unwrapped for 30 minutes then back into the oven @ c 175 for the rest of the cooking time (which clearly depends on how you like your lamb - I like it properly pink personally). Then a rest again. Then all the juices from the meat and the bed of veg can be used for the gravy.
OK. I'm boring myself now: I'll get my coat..

I want it labelled, as do millions of people, so we can avoid the muck. I'm sure you would prefer to be unconscious if you were to have your throat cut compared to being fully conscious and watch your blood pouring everywhere, halal is evil

And so do Jews and Hindus. As the latter are allowed to slaughter sheep in their back gardens. Christians are however not allowed to slaughter sheep in their back garden !

It's a bit more nuanced than that, I can assure you. Stunning doesn't always work, the death is slower.... It's not as black and white as your somewhat reactive sounding comment makes it appear.

My nipper swears by a HFWhittingstall river cottage recipe, it takes around 7 hours but is a simple rub, have been making this with her since she was 5, (with minimal spices) ...now at 11yrs old she can be left to get on with it, we adore it! ..worth the wait, a go out & do stuff whilst it slowly cooks meal.
Already showing out of stock now online, possibly the same in local stores.

Not at all sure anyone had seen it in my local and I certainly did not, even being there at the opening time. Very annoying and sounds a bit like a ploy to get you to Morrison's hoping that if you are already there you would buy other stuff. Well, I did not and I would not. Not the first time I went there and good offers where nowhere to be seen. Do not think I will get excited about any future Morrison's offers :disappointed:
Opening post
Offer available until Sunday.
Next cheapest I could find was Asda at £6.49/kg
Time to get the freezers stocked up again!
