I cry foul to Travel Expert then
Come on visit your own back yard. You won't get a tan and could end up eaten by midges but there are many sites to see across Scotland.

I've lived in Aberdeen for 15 years and like every where it has its moments.
This hotel I exceedingly central as previously mentioned. Within walking distance of all the shops, multiple eating places and the main drinking establishments.
The street this is on will over look the winter festival. With various forms of entertainment.
If you like Champagne, there is a dedicated bar round the corner. If you like Whisky, theGrill has about 200 of them to keep you warm. Anything from £3-£250 a nip.
Granite doesn't sparkle when it's dull but after visiting most of the UKs major cities, none of them do.

I've never been to Aberdeen and you're not really selling it... I'm sure there is plenty to see and do though.

Is Carmines still on Union Terrace. I went to Uni in Aberdeen and then stayed there for 7 years and loved it. Yes, dark and dismal at times but lots to see and do. Carmines did an awesome calzone and their lunch deal was value for money

I should add check out itison they frequently have afternoon tea deals for this hotel, for about £14.
We had one there's couple of weeks ago.

I've been to Oban when I went to Norway on a last minute cruise from Liverpool and we got stuck there due to bad weather for a day & night but that's my only Scotland visit. I tend to always be on long haul open jaw flights somewhere.

One day I certainly will. I crave to hike some of Scotland including Ben Nevis and would love to take the Caladonian Sleeper. Most of my holidays don't involve a tan, although if the midges were anything like the ones in Yorkshire when I went hiking in the moors in August I will cry! I was eaten alive, I swear it was the midges that drove Cathy mad and nothing to do with Heathcliffe!

Having done WHW, Great Glen Way, Fife Coastal path and Speyside way, I say do it. Though don't try Nevis and do a longer hike. Been done and tried that, ouch.
May is a great time to do the hikes.

Interesting to know where you come from that makes you think the road to Dyce is Aberdeen's best feature.

Love aberdeen been going there now for ten years for the granite city open - the people are friendly the night life is great and a local band called fubar are brilliant to watch - don't knock it till you've tried it I'm from N Ireland and we only get 2 weeks of sunshine a year - a holiday is what you make it - if you wanna go to somewhere with the mindset it's cold and miserable, then stay at home and never ever go on a skiing holiday ether

I've stayed there for one night. Nice enough reception area and bar, but the room I was in was a shocker. Room was barely big enough for the bed and 70s style plywood wardrobe. Luckily it was paid for by my work and I don't mind it when they waste money haha

Their is lots to do in Aberdeen, the weekends are normally quite busy. Though some of the better things to do are outside the city. You have sandy beaches, and can often see Seals and Dolphins. The countryside up there is also great for exploring.
Though at this time of the year, you might be restricted due to the weather.
I'm not from Aberdeen, but occasionally travel up because of work. Also I did live there for 3 years, but at that time, I was more focused on working rather than exploring.

mmmmmm butteries! What croissants were supposed to be like!
I used to go to Aberdeen every year for christmas until I was about 22. Lovely city, and there's actually a chance of snow up there which makes it even better. As other's have said lots to do but either wrap up warm or brave it.
