Over the last few years I got the impression any Vauxhall excites you. They have their followers and that can't be ignored and I commend you all for the true patriotism to this fair Isle we live on but the interiors are still 10 years behind most other marques and the Vauxhall Vectra was named as the least satisfying car to own in Britain. I myself wouldn't go near one and if someone offered to give me a lift whilst hitchhiking I would turn my head and refuse to get in even if it was p155ing it down. :man:

Owned two 1.4 versions of this model at 100ps/98hp. Its actually pretty good and responsive. Its not going to do much vs a diesel or larger petrol, but it is decent enough for a general family car. The price is good for what you get tbh.

Debatable, but one thing it isn't, and that's average. Driving a 15 plate Merc A Class courtesy car for the last week whilst mine is in the garage, and really starting to miss it.

Ampera is e-rev not hybrid. also the deal for 10k with 5k deposit and 5k 0% will be a pre reg deal so no scrappage available as it's not a brand new car.

I'm not worried about power as I'm used to a 1.7 diesel which isn't that fast , but to be fair I always have the kids in the car. This deal also comes with a years free insurance too.

the 1.4 engine for the Heavy Astra is totally underpowered. Do not buy you will be very disappointed by its lack of power especially when trying to overtake. I know I bought one. If you want to buy an astra go for the 1.6 engine it has a lot more power. I should know I bought one. beware of the 1.4 engine from vauxhaul for the astra.
I had one of these as a hire car. It is well equipped and comfy but the acceleration is very poor. It's not just because I rip up the tarmac everywhere, it is just plain dangerous. Accelerating upto speed on a slip road felt very unsafe.

Just read in this months What Car that the New Astra (1.6CDTi 136 Techline) beat the Octavia (1.6TDI 110 Business) and also the Focus (1.5 TDCI 120 Zetec). "The new Astra is easily the best car the company has produced in the last decade."

No it was before the scrappage deal/offer was out, it was the start of September, Brand new, 1st Owner 65 Plate.
Think he got £400 p/x for a 56 plate Megane which had it's issues !

I also had a Astra Excite, (as per my previous comment) I can assure that as a 56 year old female I certainly DO not know the third lane of a motorway. In fact I would have been lucky if the car had made it to the third lane, it is so severely underpowered it was dangerous. 1st gear to get up a hill, it was traded in after 2 years for a Citreon DS.

The new Astra is a much much better car, I'm getting one with the ecoflex engines expecting delivery in January

I have an Astra Excite. Perfect for just normal driving. Very comfortable car. Unfortunately people these days seem to have to have the most powerful cars and if they're not really fast then they're a "rubbish" car. These are usually the people that only know the third lane on a motorway.

If it's difficult to safely perform a basic manouvre, then yes, a car is dangerous. This sounds woefully underpowered for the weight.

So underpowered that it feels unsafe. Trading mine after just one year. Avoid it at any costs. Don´t buy.

Whatever class Vauxhall compete in whether it's quirky: Adam, electric: Ampera, Insignia: saloon, they just can't get to the top. They appear to excel in offering cheaper cars in all sectors that are distinctly average.

You forgot the Corsa, second best selling car in the UK and the Zafira although old and ugly it had sold by the boat load.
BTW the Ampera is a hybrid not fully EV.
Ford being their closest rivals don't get it right all the time either, Ecosport is pretty horrific and the Mondeo has lost huge market share over the years.
Vauxhall is certainly in a better position than they were 10 years ago, can't say that for VW.

Looking at the performance figures, it is 1 second quicker to 60 mph than my wife's 1.4 Corsa, so more than adequate for most people.

Unfortunately real world driving involves more than just doing 0-60.
