Same price at Amazon! got one yesterday, was getting 40mbp/s on wifi now getting 160mbp/s using this and cat 6a ethernet cables

Bought, collected and installed in < 3 minutes. NAS now moved out of lounge under stairs and no fans blaring out (nor sucking in all of the dust from the lounge floor). Double win - but does mean more vacuuming for me.
Does anybody know if the 3-port plugs work with these too?
Picked these up the other week at this price. Only because the Netgear 500 equivalent isn't compatible with the Mac's latest 2 OSs! Which I found out the hard way.
Had no probs with these, thinking of getting more. Just wish they came singular too

Bought these and finding my 70mbps connection is being pushed through at full speed, where-as the 500mbps I have from netgear only manage about 40mbps throughput.
Maplin also offer a 30 day full refund on purchased items, which gives you a bit of confidence for if you get them home and they don't work well given your home wiring.

I think you might be right, if the 200 isn't trying to talk to anything the 1200s should talk faster. How much the 200 will affect the overall speed of the powerline network would need testing!

it's not great but I can live with it. it also connects faster on bootup.

I'll need to test more thoroughly at some point. But I'm pretty sure they only throttle down when communicating with the slower units. The faster ones still work at the faster speed when communicating with each other.
For that reason I have the faster one by the main router

Be sure to get proper weatherproof cable and use drip loops etc. :smirk:

Brought - thank you! Can't wait to try these out.

I would still expect someone getting 40Mbps with 200's (the baseline they are already achieving with the signal to noise ratios they presently have) to be getting over 80Mbps with 500's and over 160Mbps with 1200's from that baseline set (or in bytes rather than bits 5, 10 and 20).
As to routing cabling outside find that messy - other areas in my house have gone under floorboards and fish hooked between the wall and plaster board.

I think it's way more complicated as everyone's house wiring will be slightly different. If you can, get a set from Amazon so you can easily return them after testing in your own house. The TrendNet ones aren't much different in price to these.
I'm thinking of getting a set but want to see how my 500's perform with my Steam Streaming device which should arrive tomorrow. I'm also thinking about running an Ethernet cable outside then back in.

That's poor - I doubled when I went from 200 to 500 and would expect the same again at 1200.

i recently this exact product from Maplin. i was using tp-link 200mbps homeplugs before and i'd get 5MBps (as in 40mbps). With these i get 10MBps ie twice.
Hope that gives you a sense of real scaling :-)

How do you get 1200 out of a gigabit connex , isn't this mkt b/s?
using Bt HH4 .. so ...?
Yes b/s with alot of marketing hype - 1200 is 600 each way - real performance would expect to be in the 250 to 300 Mbps range - but tp link come out well in testing compared to most.

I have found (after trying most) the apple airport TC and airport express connected via cat6 is most robust, quickest etc.
With router connected to TC and wireless OFF.
However you do need to nail the cat6 down then wall to the airport express.
For best results and no dropout I use 'apple roaming network' and 'airport Utility' app
Have mixed 500 and 200 similar to the setup proposed - 500's talk to each other at the faster rate and revert to the slower speed only when talking to the older devices- specs say these act in the same manner.
So the idea of creating a 1200 backbone will work with the router connecting externally at 200.
Thinking of adding some 1200 like your setup but had to up to 500 from router to my switch as found real throughput in my house maxed out at about 45 Mbps a few years ago.

Do these work with slower Powerplugs?
I have a home network using 3x powerplugs currently (some ebuyer ones and TP link); current mains network nodes are:
(a) Wireless router, connected to mains via 200MPS power plug
(b) Desktop connected to mains via 200MPS power plug
(c) Gigabit switch connected to mains via 200MBPS power plug.
Also hanging off the switch is a HTPC and 2x NAS.
I basically want faster throughput between my desktop and 2x NAS so I figured I could retain the 200M power plug for the router (since my internet ain't that fast and this can handle that data rate no problem) and connect the desktop and switch via 1200MBPS. Will this work without it all reverting to 200M?
In other words, do I need to buy 2 or 3 ?

Shame the 3 port ones are so expensive!
While you can mix and match AFAIK it will all run at the speed of the slowest one. So if you're after better speeds replace them all.
