well after googling it, apparently rubbing it on your stomach can help flatulence! Wouldn't want to rub it on my a-hole, that's for sure.

The main 'active ingredients' are camphor and menthol contained in petroleum jelly. The diiferences between the three available types is in the amounts of these in each. The properties of camphor and menthol have been known in the UK for a long time and are still widely used here in such preparations as cough mixtures, cough sweets, vapour rubs etc. As I previously stated, Tiger Balm IS a registered trademark and what is on sale genuine. It was first produced in Burma,(Myanmar) not China. Properly used, it can be effective for what it states on the label, and a little goes a long way. The reason for its popularity in southeast Asia is the result of effective clever marketing from its early days, but it can't fix a broken leg! Pricewise, I guess in the UK most sellers are charging what they think the market will stand, so if you can get it at only 99p, its a bargain. Compare that with the price a similar amount of Vicks Vapour Rub.

Natural??? This is knocked together in a Chinese chemical factory - no quality assurance because it isn't actually classed as a medicine. God knows what's in there along with the menthol and camphor. Even snake oil can work if you think it will and it does smell like a balm should.

What a strange story, but nothing to do with Tiger Balm, which is a trade mark of Haw Par international, whose head office is in Singapore. Haw and Par, the sons of the original chemist who formulated the balm. Haw was the eldest son, and his name, Aw Boon Haw, tranlates into English as 'Gentle Tiger', and Tiger Balm is named after him.Nothing to do with tigers, or any company called Tiger.Hahaha.

Not too sure why this is so hot as it is not Tiger Balm but Wild Tiger Balm. I tried one from HB last year and there is no comparision to be made between this cheap version and the real Tiger Balm. Pay a little more for the real thing as it lasts forever.

There's a lot of different ones, I am guessing the words tiger balm are not copyrighted to anyone, lot of cheaper imitations I have only seen the original Chinese one in Chinese shops and Boots, even Tiger has there own one in a plain light blue pot that just says Tiger Balm on it in black bold writing. (Tiger is a company from Scandinavian or near to that, which sells all kinds of bits and pieces from umbrellas and egg timers to paint palettes and pots of ice cream, mainly things for the home that would complement your IKEA decor, there's not many stores about tho so I thought I should explain that as just calling a high street chain Tiger isn't very good really).

Yes, I find it does work. I've used it on my sore knee (arthritis/tendonitis). It's far cheaper than a branded anti-inflammatory, such as Volterol, plus its natural.

10 Nov 15#36
I think they have different uses. When I had a bad shoulder Tiger balm would just sting & do little for the pain however deepheat would help soothe the pain for a period of time. However even deepheat failed to cure my muscle agony. Something much more simple worked wonders.... A hot shoulder pad and Boots cold gel pads working together.
