'Evil Dead' (1980) is Raimi's low-budget gore-fest about a group of American teenage yuppies on holiday in a remote cabin in the Tennessee mountains. They discover an old book which, once they have read it, summons up all kinds of horrors: the trees come alive and so do the dead, who take over the bodies of the living.
In 'Evil Dead 2' (1987) a young couple chance upon the same remote Tennessee cabin as in the original, unleashing the forces of evil with horrific consequences for themselves and their friends. The only survivor, Ash (Bruce Campbell, who also starred in the first film), deranged after having to dismember his possessed, dead girlfriend, fights back with a chainsaw.
Whilst 'Army of Darkness - The Medieval Dead' (1992) is the third in the series. Ash (Campbell) and his chainsaw are transported back in time to the 14th century via an evil book. In his attempts to return to the present he has to battle skeletons and Dark Age warriors, as well as romancing a medieval damsel.

Haha cheesy effects, you can see they just pushed the floorboard to make the effect. Also Evil Dead was released in 1981 not 1980. Hot deal regardless. Is the tree rape scene censored/removed in this version? Sam Raimi mentioned he regretted that scene.

Have this on DVD. Worth the upgrade to this Blu-Ray set?

Yes - the transfers are excellent. Also the Army of Darkness disc contains both the theatrical and director's cuts - although, sadly, the director's cut is only in SD. (Your DVD is probably the director's cut, so that will just be the same here, although at least they've done a good job with the theatrical cut and it's interesting to watch them both for the differences.)
It reminds me a little bit of Reaper - that TV show with the devil that no one watched, although I had a soft spot for it. I know Evil Dead came first, and I always thought the Reaper characters working at a hardware store was a bit of an Evil Dead reference, but Ash vs Evil Dead looks like it might be working with the same TV formula that Reaper had so I'm confident it will work as a TV series! Except better than Reaper because it has Sam Raimi at the helm and being on Starz gives them the freedom to be as ridiculously over the top with the gore as they want. Also it's re-teaming Bruce Campbell up with Lucy Lawless so what's not to like?

If I funded it, I would renew it based on the trailer alone  I'm stupidly excited for it.

Are these good quality / versions of the films. I've heard some versions of the blu rays are crap and you need to be careful what version you buy.

In agreement of the trailer making me think it's gonna be a belter of a series.
It will be interesting to see what Rami does with the series after all these years.. Is he at the helm of directing all the episodes?

I had never heard of reaper, checked out a trailer and it looks pretty good! might try and find a copy of the first season for cheap.

I originally heard about it because Kevin Smith directed the pilot - I listen to his podcasts and he talked about doing it and I liked the sound of it so I checked it out. Wasn't sure whether I liked it or not at first but it grew on me so I was a bit sad when it was cancelled. I was a fan of Tyler Labine from the show Invasion (and he's since been in Tucker and Dale vs Evil, which is a great comedy horror) but the whole show is worth watching just for Ray Wise as the devil!

A trilogy of spine-chillers from Sam Raimi.
