saw this on mobilephonechecker and clicked on the link to mobiles.co.uk website to double check and the deal is active
there's a voucher code TENOFF10 to take £10 off the handset cost (don't know if it works or not so I haven't deducted from the cost)
TCB and quidco too but I haven't deducted the cashback because the above code t&c's says that the code won't work if used with a cashback website (don't know if it's true or not and don't know if both of them combined will work or not)
unlimited minutes unlimited texts and 1gb data

Same deal on Amazon, bought yesterday. You can choose you airtime and all of them are way cheapre than in O2 shop or website.

Im stuck with this predicament too, they would not even get close to the prices on mobile.co.uk, pretty upset really considering I have had 3 phone contracts with them for 6+ years. Don't know if their policy changed, because they matched mobiles.co.uk sony z1 price for me when I upgraded 2 years ago...

I am an existing O2 customer and can upgrade and the tariffs on mobiles.co.uk are much better.
Do O2 price match them if you phone them up?

Weren't interested in matching or even offering a deal last week when I phoned :disappointed:

o2 don't price match any companies and that includes 3rd party companies like mobiles.co.uk
I tried last week and they said that they can't price match but their offers direct are better than other phone providers including 3rd party companies because they offer the refresh tariffs so u are not stuck with a phone for 2yrs

No this is HotUKDeals, there isn't a UK Xperia Z4, it was only ever released in Japan. It's called Z3+ in all other countries which is what it effectively is.

One of the reviews I read recently - can't recall which one - said that 4K vids on Youtube are downscaled to 1080

Which by definition means they did make it, just branded it as Z3+ over here as it was such an incremental update from Z3

I use a 50 inch 4k TV as a phone. Wouldn't want my eyes to explode from too much squinting. I don't get any odd looks whatsoever, although it is tricky to find a phone case that fits well.

Nope they made a Z3+ they didn't make a Z4, it may have been called Z4 in other countries.

Good on them if they have finally come to their senses!
Looks like they have managed to tame the Snapdragon 810 in the Z5 for most part, still can't record for too long (over 10 minutes) in 4K but that's an issue that most phones suffer due to processing power required.
Wouldn't downscale any true 4k content, unless of course you ask it to. As mentioned 4k only works when you're watching videos or browsing photographs but we will see what happens when Marshmallow hits it as that meant to have full support for 4k screens.

Seems like that strategy has come to an end, Z6 isn't due till late next year apparently (unless they are planning on a Z5+ in between...).

Doesn't this downscale to 1080P to show videos?
Is there a problem with this phone where it overheats and then shuts down?

brookysm to Rich44
13 Nov 15#29
It's a full time 4k phone, the menus and most apps aren't displayed in 4k simply because its pointless to do so and can make the phone sluggish - ask any 16gb G3 owner about that and that screen is a 2kk one!

Which is an awful strategy seeing how SOCs operate on an annual cycle as does most other tech not to mention majority of phone contracts are on even longer 24 months terms. I simply cannot fathom the reason behind pushing a flagship every 6 months with near identical specs, for those wanting latest tech this is probably more off putting knowing there's a near identical phone with different name that's "newer". It really does boggle the mind as it must tie up so many resources in a division that is losing money hand over fist and only exists because the rest of Sony can support it.
The Z5 and Premium at least does offer a new OIS in video that is miles ahead of the competition, bigger screen with 4k and larger battery along with the usual waterproofing that originally made the series popular which probably makes it the least incremental update for the Z line. Ultimately as always it's up to the consumer to vote with their wallet but I want to see the product line do well which is why it's frustrating watching Sony sabotage themselves.

Lack of 4k content is the biggest problem but that's the case with most cutting edge technologies while the rest of the industry catches up. Technically speaking the best application for that resolution is going to be with the VR gear where it will make a huge difference.
Again though problem is that I don't think Sony will catch up themselves, by the time they release a VR headset new generation of phones will be hitting us in Q2 2016. Sony will be missing the opportunity to get on the market early making this a rather superfluous feature in this phone, particularly with their baffling 6 month release schedule on flagships. Still nice to see manufacturers pushing the boat with new technology but wish they would concentrate on other more groundbreaking features.

this phone will do 4K for media content only. The screen will run in 1080p mode the rest of the time. Which is fine - saves on the battery. So would you see any material difference between this screen with more pixels but running 1080p pixels over a native 1080p scree?
The content matters because without any 4K content - difficult to justify the need for the screen and price. I'd probably try to do a comparison of Youtube 4K on this compared to 1080p Youtube on another phone to see if you can tell the difference at these sizes.

I've been using a 9" Pipo T9S tablet as my phone (it takes a SIM and reports it's self as a phone) since I broke my z2 screen. Also rarely make calls and will either use it on speaker phone or with a headset.
Will wait until the new Ultra comes out before even thinking about a new phone. My 15" laptop's 4k screen is 'nice' though not massively useful over 1080p (for instance, avatars on social media often look noticeably more 'defined'). Makes a decent difference having 4k on a 28" monitor. Less sure about a screen at this size, though could be good for those 'vr goggle' cardboard kits!

Who says I use it against my ear? For the 10 minutes of calls I make every month I have the headset and watch if need be.
The phone is probably the most used device by every person nowadays. I would hate to squint reading stuff on a small screen 5+ hours every day.

It's not about the content being 4k, it's just a really sharp screen, I wouldn't be too concerned as you won't see any real benefit of a 4k screen for movie viewing. Just like in the real world, 40" is fine for 1080p at about 6ft viewing distance.

Well I expressed an opinion (IMO = in my opinion). As such it can't really be wrong, but thanks for your input. I'm sure you don't attract any strange looks at all with an 8 inch tablet pressed to your ear, Mr Jolly. No more than when you tell people their opinion's wrong, anyway.
