How would the overall quality of the picture on this TV compare with that of our Panasonic GT50 Plasma.?
Not having seen this TV I am still not sure if our GT50 would still be considered, when viewing HD, to have a great picture in comparison.
I understand that it uses edge lit LED compared to the Plasma we own but I don't know how good they have got over the years..?

If anyone who has one can answer... is the response time of the Android system a bit annoying? I've heard it's slow and cumbersome but want to consider the Sony TV alongside LG's products, which appeal for their OS but maybe not as much as Sony for their picture quality. Thanks.

Side by side a Samsung doesn't beat this on picture quality. Sammys overly bright, orange skin tones, lack of a decent upscaler of 4K's, poor details in image and over sharpens image to compensate. We all have our opinions but get most side by side the Sony wins on picture quality.

Saw a demo of the LG OLED in Birmingham at weekend, 65" picture quality was amazing.

They had the 55" too but 65" was full system set-up it blows the led sets away, I plan to get a cheaper set for now and wait for OLED to reduce in price a bit.

By full system set up i mean you go behind a curtain sit on a couch with speaker system, felt like being at a cinema

Excellent TV for the money, I picked one up a month ago and love it. The latest update gave it HDR, the blacks are great and football + games are brilliant on it. For the money I don't think it can be beaten atm. I had a LG but took it back because of weird affects on the screen and weird motion but this has been perfect. Only downside is that Android is a but laggy and a few bugs but worth putting up with. Also has Kodi (xbmc) which is a great extra.

Panasonic started outsourcing to Vestel last year. It's really disappointing that such a tech giant has fallen so far. They're still trading on the brand reputation they used to have. Those Vestel sets are absolutely appalling. I'd definitely go for the X85!
gg1pl
29 Oct 15 #59
Low end Panasonic's are outsourced to Vestel, check the back and make sure it's not made in Turkey.

Medium and high end ends are manufactured by Panasonic and haven't fallen behind at all, it's just their strategy to outsource the low end to sell as many as possible to those wanting large cheap TVs.

Panasonic's still make great TVs as shown by their top end Panasonic TX-65CZ952B £8000 OLED or FreeviewPlay capable TVs.

Just avoid the low end Vestels unless you are looking for the cheapest TV possible.

For me it's Cinema settings, either one is fine, pro might be a little to dark. As for motion I think standard looks best but try smooth too. Colour around 65, and adjust the contrast and brightness to your liking for wherever it's being placed. Out the box it does very well for natural colour, just make sure Vivid Mode is set to standard and you're on to a winner.

30 Oct 15 #81
ive had 3 of these. all had issues with clouding and backlight bleed in the corners making one or two corners much brighter than the rest of the screen.

was noticeable even in the daytime.

the tvs got an update for HDR and the demos look pretty good but it washes out the contrast somewhat as well as the tvs are only HDR ready as no local dimming.

the biggest problems i had with the software was netflix and amazon repeatedly crashing.

i had enough and got a hisense 58" kec730 for £849, picture quality is just as good but much better blacks and screen uniformity.

LOGiCALX
30 Oct 15 #91
Every single LCD LED tv's will have some sort of backlight uniformity issues, just some can notice it more than others as they actively seek it. Very noticeable on IPS panels, just like my Dell 23" IPS. I can see the corners are bright and I expect this due to how the leds are laid out. Remember they have to push light to the middle of the screen. It's just a downside to LCDs.

High lag for gaming, avoid
waynebeetison
31 Oct 15 #95
yeah there are demos available for 4k HDR content and on edgelit tvs with no local dimming zones you get a bit of over brightening and washout on the contrast, making blacks grey, no point having HDR making the bright bits brighter and the black bits brighter as well.

very obvious on the sony55x85** and the samsung js8500.

ideally you want a fully backlit tv with lots of dimming zones.

As for the clouding issues, go look on avforums, lots of owners with issues and after my 3rd return the salesman in currys said its one of the most returned tvs they have, probably because its quite popular as its always on sale.

Lost the BBC B stream on Freeview HD so had to mess around deleting channels then rescanning.few niggles with remote sync too so buyers may have to play around with a few things.Apart from these things I am happy. I got my TV all fully up and running yesterday, the picture is stunning, no issues at all with clouding or the backlight.

I'm a newbie when it comes to kodi so it took me a while to get it set up but eventually but it was worth the hassle, watched the Southampton v Bournemouth game in HD with only one buffering pause for a couple of minutes, after that I streamed a HD Pulp Fiction which looked stunning.

I have read loads about people not being able to see the difference between 4k
sjb07
2 Nov 15 #109
Damn chubby digits,

I have read loads about people not being able to see the difference between 4k and HD in a normal setting but I watched a couple of episodes of bloodline on Netflix in 4k sitting about 10-11 feet and I could definitely tell the difference, it looks crystal clear.

I'm very happy with my purchase and I usually suffer from buyers remorse so that's a big plus.

Only tested my xBox for a few minutes on game mode and didn't see any evidence of lag.

The only negative I have so far is my WiFi sound bar has not been delivered along with the TV and sound without it is pretty weak, should get delivered today and solve that issue.

Really impressed so far. I've upgraded from a 3-4 year old Samsung 40" LED.

Upscaling is really good - Tried Virgin Media TV (1080i), PS4 Blu Ray, The youtube app (1080p) and a downloaded copy of the new Fantastic 4 from USB (only a 3gb file, a blu ray ripped file). All very impressive. I was concerned being a bigger screen quality would be reduced when in fact it's vastly improved.

I can see a bit of backlight from certain angles when viewing the TV side on. But in all fairness to the TV, the angles you can see the backlight are not angles that you'd be able to watch the TV with - Plus this is on the original picture settings. No clouding at all and I have no backlight issues when viewing the TV from the front or realistic viewing angles.

The most impressive thing is the Android TV - Most of the reviews say it's clunky and the TV isn't powerful enough etc - It's really not - no lag, loads of apps (197 updated when I set the TV up!) and the user interface is awesome. Not sure if you have used Virgin Medias TV, but that lags, press a button; wait then something happens - This TV uploads the Virgin TV Guide into the TV's user interface so you no longer need the Virgin remote or interface. Virgin TV is now super quick!

It was between this, the Panasonic tx55cx680b and Samsung 7000 series. I have no regrets going for the Sony.
