Yes, JL don't do this model. I was having a look at the 50" of this tv in Currys today at £549.00. Cracking tv for the money and Currys had it playing normal tv, you know what most us watch when not using VOD services. This is how tv's should be presented in the shops and not on the manufacturer's usb sticks. They must have run out of samsung sticks as on the Samsung 50JU6800 they had an LG stick in the back of it !!

That's the standard JL price match email. With price match and 5 year warranty it's about time more of us ditched the well known high street store, or should I say retail park store and buy from JL. No I don't work for them but companies like C****s should be offering longer guarantees like JL do.

I would wait if i were you, i know samsung will be going hot for black friday, and if not for black friday defo for christmas, last year they were giving 300 pounds cashback with their tvs, defo worth it

Bought one from currys today. When everything is setup and powered on, internal crack is visible on the flashing screen. Will bring it back to currys and hopefully get a replacement.

That's a lot of posts since June. One of the most interesting ones though was why there wasn't many amazon reviews and NO reviews on REVOO. That is surprising. Have they been pulled. A few reviews on REVOO for the previous model and all with the same issues about having to reboot, lipsync issues etc. I think this is one tv I will give a miss until Sony get it sorted. Also mentioned about the cheap processor is worrying.

Good point lol and not to mention 4k tv's will not be upscaling the SD programmes any better than the 1080 tv's do. For those of us who don't have sky any more or cable most of our viewing is in SD. On some programmes the sound is poor on HD so end up watching the SD channels instead. Personally I think the tv industry should concentrate on transmitting more terrestrial channels in HD and forget about 4k. Looks like it's not going to happen for a long time except for Sky who will welcome the opportunity to exploit more money from the viewer for 4k transmissions. Glad I kicked them into touch. My new tv bought in January ended up being free in money I had saved by not subscribing anymore to their repeat, repeat and yet more repeats service.

Trusted Reviews said the image from this tv is close to 4k, with great depth and clarity. Good HD or Blu-ray needed for this of course. Sky 4k will be the end of 2016 with a hefty fee on top of what we're already paying. 4k streaming needs fibre to show the quality off, more expense. According to the tv shop guys, there's no BBC 4k in sight, remember all the current TV's have freeview hd tuners built in. The programs on SKY will be limited at the start with sports and some drama. If it's out like HD, it could take years. Even now some HD looks terrible with poor sound. The future is OLED with deep blacks, the base for a great picture and wide plasma type viewing angles. This Sony 55 will bridge the gap, until OLED is cheap and there's more 4k content.

There is very unlikely to be a move to any resolution above 4K. The reason is the cinema distribution industry (let alone the production) are quite happy (and currently equipped) for 4K, albeit a slightly higher 4K res than domestic 4K TVs.

The majority of TV channels, terrestrial or otherwise, still service an SD audience....even if that is declining. Bigger TV corps and companies like the Beeb have already spent millions on upgrading to 1080.... and they won't be upgrading to 4K on a massive scale until they are sure 4K is the end of the road (oh the irony). That is a long way off given the Net won't deliver true 4K (for most people) for a long time.

The only sector that could have shifted folks to 4K on masse was the gaming sector. Sony and Microsoft missed the boat with their consoles and for quite a while you'll only have a handful of gaming geeks with beefy PC's hooked up to their TV's that can play games in 4K.

So the only place 4K will grow (slowly) is the VOD services (Netflix, Sky, etc) providing films (mostly) that have been shot in this res to start with. I am reasonably certain of all this because I worked in the TV production business for 15 years before going independent 10 years ago. When I left mainstream TV the big corps were only starting to look at shifting across upgrading to 1080. Ironically the last company I worked for, the biggest global shopping channel, still hasn't upgraded to 1080.

I'm afraid chaps it's all about the 'returns' and right now only VOD services, TV manufacturers/retailers and camcorders/phone producers have any chance of making money out of 4K. But these aren't the mainstream entertainment providers that you go home and watch each night.

Looking forward to 8K seems pretty daft right now, putting aside all the arguments aimed at 4K over what the eye can see at a comfortable distance. Of course someone will come back and say it's just around the corner... but they obviously don't understand how the industry works. I remember seeing high definition TV tests out in Japan on Tomorrow's World as a child (I'm 48 now), but it's only just arrived.

So 4K yes, it will is/will happen along with HDR, higher frame rates and other goodies.... but slowly. 8K.... not in my lifetime I'd be willing to bet!

is there anything that 4k is good for at the minute? i only watch sky hd and the odd downloaded movie, maybe put the ps3 on once in a while. I just want a lrger screen that can play USB files

Recent Sony TV owners are doing anything they can do get refunds. You really would have to be brave to buy the 2015 Android version!

4k can only work if the equipment (camera) captures the images. the equipment to processthe captured images, then released (possibly in the form of a disc) that then needs another piece of equipment to send that to a 4k TV. 1080p in my opinion, isn't utilised to its fullest, so i am not convinced how the film and TV industry will ditch standard HD and rush out to film and broadcast in 4k. i think this is a great deal, don't get bogged down too much with 4k. it would be good if you can get this with some kind of warranty

A good excuse for sky to charge an extra £10.00 per month plus more for a new box.

Looking to replace this for my 10 year old 50inch Plasma, I know 4K is there, is it Necessary when I watch almost all the content SD and SkyHD. Hope JL will price match for 5 year warranty. OLED will be affordable next 2-3 years. Good for gaming 20ms.
