Sky TV have launched an offer, Get any sky bundle (Cheapest £20pm) with a min 12 month contract and you'll a nice shiny 32'' LG TV or £100 reward
Personally would prefer vouchers as just got a new tv
So £240 for 12 months + £10 install = £250

£110 cashback for Original bundle on TCB (£115.50 for Plus members)
I'm coming to the end of my 12 month minimum term on the TV, so going to sign up as a new customer again:
Original bundle 12 x £20.00= £240
minus £115.50 TCB (Plus member)
minus £100 Amazon voucher
plus £10 installation
= £34.50 for the year.
I've also given them notice that I want to cancel broaband/talk due to price increases coming in and I'm leaving mid-minimum term with no cancellation fee and signing up as a new customer again (separate account to the TV):
Line rental = £17.40 x 12 = £208.80
minus £84 TCB (highest cashback guarantee matching Quidco with plus 5%)
minus £100 pre-paid Mastercard
= £24.80 for the year.

Doubt the TV will arrive in time for Xmas, you have to claim it after 30 days of your install and then wait for it to be shipped. Took ours about 7 weeks after install to arrive iirc.

You buy a Now TV box for example from here £12.99 Argos Link > it contains a 3 months entertainment pass. You connect the box in your TV trough HDMI cable and using your internet (WiFi) you have access for 3 months to these live Sky Channels: Sky1, Sky Living, Sky Atlantic, GOLD, Comedy Central, Sky Arts, ITV Encore, FOX, MTV, Discovery Channel, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, Nick JR and also access to Catch Up, TV boxsets too. There are also some applications on the box like BBCiPlayer, ITV Player, Demand 5, Youtube... You can even watch on different devices like gaming consoles, Laptops. I believe with one account you can register up to 4 devices.

My 12mth Carphone Warehouse £15.99 TV, broadband, phone contract expires end of March. I knew that their call package was going up (for me in March after the free 3 mths for anytime calls) but I am not aware of a price hike on broadband? Does the price hike allow anyone tied in to cancel (penalty free)?. I'm on a very good deal with my current tariff but what you are suggesting looks very appealing.

Choice of reward: Choice of a 32” LG TV, Samsung Tab E, LG Soundbar, 10 movies from Sky Store or a £100 Amazon Gift Certificate for new Sky customers only. Sky TV: £20-£75.75 a month. £10 set up fee applies. Payments by Direct Debit. 12 month minimum subscriptions. One reward per household. You must claim your reward online at http://www.sky.com/claim within 90 days of your service being activated. To receive the M&S e-Voucher you need a valid email address and the ability to print. Not available with any other Sky TV offer. Sky Store and Amazon further terms apply. Offer ends 30 November 2015.
Is it Amazon or M&S voucher. Their terms are unclear... Also why is the Mod not amending the title. Family Bunlde is not £20 pm. Misleading advertising... :stuck_out_tongue:

Just a note of caution the stream from a NOW TV box is highly compressed and is broadcast 720. Other than that there will be programs from Sky they cannot broadcast or they will miss episodes in a series. It's a cheaper alternative but we aren't comparing like for like

This point is still valid. YOU cannot sign up in the same address within 12 months - another person can (i.e your partner).
If you are the only person living at your address (not everyone has a partner!), then you cannot take the offer (without being sneaky and using a false name)

you rotate the surname each year (or try first names if your married worth a try isn't it?) and repeat the process, so for example, my name one year, once contract is up cancel, wait till channels are inactive and then sign up in ur partners name, once hers are up ,i put it back into mine:) simples

Does anyone know the model number of the LG 32" television? I think it used to be the LG LY330C, not sure if this is the model they still offer?
Works out to be a very poor offer for the Family package:
That is basically 50% off, which is a very poor deal for the family package, you can normally get the family package with their 50% off deals + quidco for around £8-10/month.
This actually isn't that great an offer from sky. Normally you can get a deal whereby sky pay pretty much for the first year. I know when I signed up in September my net amount for 12 months the net amount worked out at -£5 for the year. Not sure how seasonal sky offers are though
nige182
23 Nov 15#55
Add an 's' to the end of the surname, or remove a character, it will go through as a new customer, you can then phone up to get the name 'corrected' if need be. People were doing that on the Sky broadband deals a few months ago.

I left sky over a year ago and moved to bt broadband. Just tried signing up, however sky are treating me as a current customer. Just found out the reason is sky still owe me £4.68 on my last contract and never closed my account!
Anyway the sales people were telling me to try entering my address manually and another guy said use a maiden name, change your email, use a different mobile etc. I was like isn't that fraud but this is what he was telling me
It will go through but still worried the cashback will be declined...
n1ttygr1tty to steve9999
23 Nov 15#58
yup that was probably why it was flagged by sky, as you tried to sign up using the old sky account within 12 months,
the only thing u need to do is change surname and email address from the last account holder. its the easy way round to get new customer deals/offers (once you cancelled sky after 12 months)
as long as you follow quidco or topcashbacks it should track fine, ive had no issues with them doing the above, and if u do u can always raise a claim and submit a ticket so you should be fine either way

So am I correct in assuming this offer is for new Sky customers? Further, is it correct to say that although Sky have separate contract for their SkyTalk, Sky Broadband and Sky TV, if you are in the midst of a contract or have left any of them in the last 12 months, you do not qualify for any Sky offer targeted at 'new' customers?
And of course, the workaround is for people to alternate taking out deals in the name of another family member every year.
So if you are in the midst of a SkyTalk contract, do you get deals to entice you towards Sky TV? Nothing in my online account showing - only in month 2 of contract.
n1ttygr1tty to mubashar
23 Nov 15#72
yes its for new customers only
sadly if you have sky broadband you are still classed as a sky customer, so you need to have both tv and broadband cancelled in order to re sign up (after your contract ends)

Um, you can Google how to rob a bank, doesn't make it legal. Kodi as a piece of software is 100% legal. But by using an addon that allows you to stream premium channels without paying and therefore bypasses paying subscriptions to licence holders you are breaking the law.
Note, this is not the same as something like TV Catchup, that only allows non-premium channels such as BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, as long as you hold a valid TV licence, you are legally allowed to stream the channels live as they are broadcast.
mcormack
24 Nov 151#81
So it is legal then, thanks for googling....
nige182 to mcormack
24 Nov 15#82
Interesting logic, care to explain how you draw that conclusion? Your original comment was to "Download Kodi and get everything for free. (legally)!!" Kodi is legal, but if you are watching Sky channels through it without subscribing that is illegal, if you are subscribing to Sky, then it isn't free.
n1ttygr1tty
24 Nov 15#83
its the same if you want to watch footy online, without sky, there are places to watch it live on certain streaming sites,
its the same as downloading movies torrents, songs, games, software or whatever, its all illegal, yet people do it, its the same with kodi, anyone can download it and use it
fact is all of the above mentioned are illegal, yet millions if not billions do it everyday.using torrents, or as other poster mentioned watch premium tv using kodi

More likely that they understand that ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law and are trying to educate and inform. What is true is that authorities would not generally target the individual streaming the content as they can take more of the activity down by taking down those hosting it so those are the prime target. Just like if someone robs a store at gunpoint and a kid at the back of a store slides a Snickers into their bag during the commotion, the police and even the store owner won't care about the Snickers that was stolen as there is a bigger target for them. It doesn't mean what the kid did was legal though.
No.
If you download an illegal torrent file it is then on your computer meaning you own an illegal file. whatever that may be. Streaming it through something like Kodi means you are only watching not owning. Downloading is illegal streaming at the moment isn't. (I'm sure it soon will be)
nige182
25 Nov 15#95
When you stream a file, it downloads onto your computer or phone into a temp directory. Even if it is clearing itself afterwards, or only storing part of the file at a time, it is still downloading the video. Look at it this way, if you download an illegal torrent, watch it and then delete it, is it legal? (Answer: No)

That may be true, but by there nature, in order to download a torrent you must also upload some of it too. So your argument isn't a very good one. Torrenting always involves uploading. Streaming is only downloading and is therefore more of a grey area from a legal perspective.

sign up using different name, same address, different d/debit details (use partner or friend), pay install fee with card not used with sky (u can use different name as not checked), once all gone thru and installed, change ddebit to your account if u wish.
give 30 days notice to cancel previous sky service on day you sign up.
always worked for me, this will be my 5th time

I,m not wrong, your not paying sky as the other poster said
if you want pay per view events, THEY ARE extra cost on sky
all your doing is using a box and viewing subscription/channels illiegally, to which is totally different and irrelevant to what other poster said

Left sky about 18 months ago now and used Now TV boxes mostly which have been great!
So now I'd be accepted back as a new customer I'm quite tempted but would want broadband/fibre unlimited plus all the tv channels (including sports and movies and bt sport) but I'm not sure how much discount I could blag. Not just that, but I'm wondering what sort of deal they might offer new customers on the new Sky Q box / setup when it's released which I have to say looks pretty awesome!

Last Saturday's PPV event between Fury and Klitschko was shown free on German channel RTL.
Either moving your dish 9 degrees, or attaching a second LNB to it, and manually tuning your Sky or Freesat box, was all you needed to do.
You can also get live Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup (BBC and BT ones) and every F1 race in HD absolutely free and legal on German TV through your existing box.
Ideal if you've cancelled and your dish isn't doing much. Or if you're having a new install get them to put a second dish up and turn the old dish to Astra 19.2 east.

Never done this - so don't need a new box or dish then - just cancel and sign up on the same day with new name etc ?
n1ttygr1tty to brianp9
1 Dec 151#139
yup give 30 days to cancel, wait until your channels are inactive (cancelled) then sign up again,(using different surname and email) if theres nothing wrong with the sky dish they just use that , as for the sky box, just remove it and sell it on facebook/ebay, as you get a new box with installation
remember to use quidco or topcashback to take full advantage with cashback

I have done the above deal but with a Sky trader standing outside Harrow Tesco so missed out on Quidco. He cancelled my contract and done in spouse name. Also moving phone/broadband from Talk Talk (broadband is free on this deal) - not much saving but thought better to have All in one. I did not realise you could cancel and get new contract in partners name so will definitely do this next year.

Also the sky trader said you can ask the Engineer to connect old box in another room - may charge a small fee but better than paying Sky every month. I will let you know if this has worked for me.- advised new installation on 6/12/15.

Another work around to the name is to add an 'a' to your address assuming this is an option. 29 becomes 29a - the engineer will most likely knock on 29 thinking there is a flat.

It's not quite the same as having a full blown package, with the option to pause and record TV though is it? The boxes are slow and clunky, the EPG system is naff, and there's a limited choice of channels.

What limited choice of channels please. The channels are the same as the original bundle with 2 less - Sky2 and Syfy Are they worth the additional £10 per month??? I don't think so. What about these channels Discovery Channel, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, Nick JR? Are they included in your Original Bundle? No , they are in the Variety bundle which costs £30!!!
Rich44
27 Jan 161#152
The box speed and responsiveness is crap compared to a full blown Sky box plus you can't live pause etc. Don't get me wrong they're a valid option but they're not really a direct comparison. It's about time you could include Now TV boxes under your Sky sub as a cheaper self install multiroom I reckon you'd get a lot more people signing up then.
As for the extra channels well if you watch them then they could easily be worth £10 per month. I download most of our shows now things like the full 5 seasons of the original Teen Titans for the kids all kinds of stuff like that stick it on my server and the kids access it either in the living room via the server or from Now TV (Plex) or Xbox360 in their bedroom.
I don't know why we bother paying Sky at all tbh probably because the aunt that lives next door has a multiroom box from us (yes yes naughty I know) she's 80 so she pays the £10 a month so sod Sky! Think will get the wife to phone and cancel the lot and see what they offer £20 a month for 12 months plus £100 voucher would be nice indeed or i'd take £100 credit on the Sky account, failing that will cancel and i'll have to sign up....

There's heavy focus on the channels here, you missed my other comments. I pay £13 a month for the Family+ package or something, loads of HD channels, plus the extras i've already mentioned. You can't really compare the two. You're not dragging on your broadband connection too, it's instant.

27 Jan 16#155
Its the extra line rental that kills this deal for me. I am on a £15.99 p/m package deal which includes line rental, TV, broadband and calls (although their call package has now become chargeable). My tariff runs out end of March so there will soon be a negotiation to be had.

27 Jan 16#156
Yeah but that's the thing: YOU PAY £13 per month. How much is the Family Bundle now ? £36 per month. If it's £13 per month then I will want it. Everyone will. But it's not and that's what I am trying to say. It's way overpriced.

The only legal free things you'll get with Kodi is the on demand services and some freeview channels. Anything over that and it's no longer legal.

27 Jan 16#161
Yeah, I get ya.... To get those prices, it's just a timing thing, I joined at 50% off, so every 12 months i'll get on the chat and say the same thing, i'm leaving etc, anything you can do. The discount is either another 50% off, or with what i'm paying now it is a little more off. I can't understand why people would pay full price for a Sky sub.

Wait what, watching the (otherwise) paid SKY content on Kodi is legal?
jans
27 Jan 16#164
Well as far as I was aware, as long as you didn't actually download/keep/store it or share anything like peer to peer you wouldn't be liable for prosecution for viewing only the streamed content. I really hope that is the case because that was the whole basis why we run Kodi off a Raspi.
Just for clarity... I wasn't really referring to particular Sky content as we have a standard package with Sky, but we use Kodi on the pi to stream films and some stateside shows etc.

I got family to bundle unlimited fibre broadband and line rental for £34 a month for 12 months. Free install and only £10 up front fee.
Opening post
Sky TV have launched an offer, Get any sky bundle (Cheapest £20pm) with a min 12 month contract and you'll a nice shiny 32'' LG TV or £100 reward
Personally would prefer vouchers as just got a new tv
So £240 for 12 months + £10 install = £250
you can also add free broadband for a year but line rental is payable.
Top comments

Is it Amazon or M&S voucher. Their terms are unclear... Also why is the Mod not amending the title. Family Bunlde is not £20 pm. Misleading advertising... :stuck_out_tongue:
Can experienced members advise me what may be possible as discounts. (I don't want the 32" TV offer.)
Are there any BF deals for Sky competitors such as BT? I assume this Sky offer is for new customers only.
I'm mid-term for my phone line/broadband, but Sky have recently announced price rices from 1/12/15 and anyone cancel within 30 days of receiving the email/letter from them, even mid-term.
Do you think I'll get the 2Tb box free too (with TCB/Quidco)?
Cheers
Please could you tell me where I can get the original bundle for free, or where you have seen this? I've been looking for deals to switch to for a while and not seen this, I've obviously missed something.
Cheers
1) Is Sky broadband as quick as Virgin Media?
2) How do you get Original bundle for free for a year please?
I'm with VM and to be fair we go through the same charade every year at leaving time, but I quite fancy just leaving one year, and this may be it.
I've been on the phone numerous times but nothing.
I would not recommend sky broadband
if however you have cancelled anytime in the last 12 months then all you need is your partners name and different email address, (as long as the name and email is different from your old sky account)
Only problem is the £21 a month is for the basic bundle with no box sets or movies etc, but with the quidco and the TV it evens itself out.
I'll probably leave and do the same thing again next year. Is it possible to leave and join back on a similar decent deal?
HOTHOTHOT anyway!
If you are the only person living at your address (not everyone has a partner!), then you cannot take the offer (without being sneaky and using a false name)
Sky are losing customers in the droves because of BT Sports & Streaming services like netflix/amazon.
Its the beginning of the end for packaged bundles. Give it 10 years & everything will be on demand & PPV.
Works out to be a very poor offer for the Family package:
£36 x 12 months - £115.50 topcashback - £100 amazon vouchers + £10 installation
= £432 - £115.50 - £100 + £10
= £226.5 / 12 months
= £18.88/month
That is basically 50% off, which is a very poor deal for the family package, you can normally get the family package with their 50% off deals + quidco for around £8-10/month.
The original package is:
£20 x 12 months - £115.50 topcashback - £100 amazon vouchers + £10 installation
= £240 - £115.50 - £100 + £10
= £34.50 / 12 months
= £2.88/month
Anyway the sales people were telling me to try entering my address manually and another guy said use a maiden name, change your email, use a different mobile etc. I was like isn't that fraud but this is what he was telling me
It will go through but still worried the cashback will be declined...
the only thing u need to do is change surname and email address from the last account holder. its the easy way round to get new customer deals/offers (once you cancelled sky after 12 months)
as long as you follow quidco or topcashbacks it should track fine, ive had no issues with them doing the above, and if u do u can always raise a claim and submit a ticket so you should be fine either way
And of course, the workaround is for people to alternate taking out deals in the name of another family member every year.
So if you are in the midst of a SkyTalk contract, do you get deals to entice you towards Sky TV? Nothing in my online account showing - only in month 2 of contract.
sadly if you have sky broadband you are still classed as a sky customer, so you need to have both tv and broadband cancelled in order to re sign up (after your contract ends)
All the people who sign up again after a year- do sky use your original dish etc, or install new?
Thanks

Note, this is not the same as something like TV Catchup, that only allows non-premium channels such as BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, as long as you hold a valid TV licence, you are legally allowed to stream the channels live as they are broadcast.
its the same as downloading movies torrents, songs, games, software or whatever, its all illegal, yet people do it, its the same with kodi, anyone can download it and use it
fact is all of the above mentioned are illegal, yet millions if not billions do it everyday.using torrents, or as other poster mentioned watch premium tv using kodi
If you download an illegal torrent file it is then on your computer meaning you own an illegal file. whatever that may be. Streaming it through something like Kodi means you are only watching not owning. Downloading is illegal streaming at the moment isn't. (I'm sure it soon will be)
I get all ppv events
all channels
fantastic deal lol
That may be true, but by there nature, in order to download a torrent you must also upload some of it too. So your argument isn't a very good one. Torrenting always involves uploading. Streaming is only downloading and is therefore more of a grey area from a legal perspective.
zgemma box Google it
your just paying for a box and using it illegally to view subscription/based tv channels
It's not a grey area at all, it's illegal. It's just hard to clamp down on.
