Minimum 11 months cured.

They were not aware at that point why , but said if it was a health issue then there would be a recall notice at the entrance shortly. Please be careful if planning to tuck into these straight away.

You might get little spots of mould, but its fine to wipe these off. Remember the thing has been hung for a year outside so put aside any Britishs obsession with the fridge. It hasnt killed the popuation of Spain / Italy in 500 years

Total rip-off. Instructions are brief and useless. Got one set of slices off, stored in cold dry place - it was covered in green mould a month later. Con-job.

Iberico is more expensive, the Serrano was a sensible price, not sure of the quality of either no stand/knive.
I saw the one in Lidl at £100, thought it was a crazy price. Previously they'vê had them in for £40 or maybe less.

Well mines currently in the kitchen (radiator off) with fat back on and towel over what it can cover (more than the cut). Hopefully sufficient.

Watch the video, it explains. Personally mine is still in the plastic stored outside in a shed. Once it's open I'll be putting the slices of fat back on the cut bits (as the video shows) and keeping it covered with a towel in the shed between uses. As you say, in Spain they have them hanging up in bars and it's generally a bit warmer there!

Saw these on Friday and had already bought too much shopping to take back on a bus. So went back tonight and they still had a handful. Just brought one home and set it up.
Is it only the cut part of the meat that you are to cover up? Removing it from the packaging it was quite greasy, I'd assume you're supposed to leave the non-cut part uncovered (as per Spanish cafes) and it's ok to dry out on the outside?

Sign up in the Preston store saying that some products were sold without the knife and stand in the box and if you've bought an affected product bring your reciept and they will supply the missing items. They still had around 10 hams on display but an awful lot more knife and stand packages in a box next to them.

Got one last night in Bredbury, boxes has obviously been opened to remove the knife / stand bit as they were in separate basket next to them and boxes were closed back up with brown tape. Barcode wouldn't scan at the self scan tills, but typed in manually OK, just had to wait for approval as it included a knife. Didn't look like they had many left (I'd say perhaps 15 or 20) so I guess they'll go quick today.

That explains a lot then. My local had about 30 boxes stacked up at the entrance with a sign saying something along the lines of "box 2 of 2, stand not to be sold separately" so i asked at cs where the stands were and they said they will be given at till. When I got to the till and asked for it the lady had no clue what I was on about so got her supervisor who said yep I've got them, they've only just come in! So whether they have been sent new knifes/stands or not i don't know.

This was back on sale this morning in my local (loads of em')! The wooden stand/board/knife were in a basket next to the Jamón Serrano box.
After a wasted journey on Tuesday evening, only to discover these had been recalled, I didn't think we'd see these again.
However, today (Friday morning), they were back out on the shop floor!
The barcode wouldn't self-scan initially, so the SCA (self-checkout assistant) attempted to enter the barcode number manually, which threw up a 'Recalled Item' message on screen.
At this the SCA was about to scurry off with the Serrano Ham box until I told her about the recall the other night and that these were apparently supposed to be back on sale on Black Friday.
After speaking to her manager the self-checkout assistant was informed to enter the barcode number manually, omitting the first digit of the barcode (which I think was a '0'). Unfortunately, this also showed up as a 'Recalled Item' on screen and the self-checkout screen.
At this, the checkout manager herself put it through a normal till manually @ £25.
A bit of faffing around, but all good in the end.
Providing it isn't mouldy after all of course! LOL
Seriously though, on inspection, it looks fine and well sealed/vacuum packed.

My local Morrison's have told my husband that they are to return "ALL OF THEIR STOCK OF SERANO HAMS" (whole ham, stand and knife) to Morrison's base. No reason was given for the return, but the store manager said he will refund all hams that are returned. Rang Morrison's Head Office stating my concerns and after 16 minutes was informed that a "statement will be made after 3 p.m on 25/11/2015". They refused to pass any comments whatsoever on this matter and sounded as though they were trying to cover this up. The response came from a Manager of the Customer Service department. I have been informed by family members that the hams were still being sold in quite a few different stores, so if they know about a problem why have they note gone public and insisted on a total recall? I was extremely saddened by the Manager's attitude to this problem and think he should have actually spoken to me directly rather than have a junior running back and forth to relay his responses. Very badly handled by custome services. A statement has still not been issued or made public.

Went back to the Barrow-in-Furness store and had a chat with one of the staff. They've been recalled because the packaging wasn't 100% on some of them leading to mould. The person I spoke to realised they were meant to have some mould potentially but said people had complained so they had to recall them.
I was offered a full refund if I brought it back even if I've started eating it. Personally going to keep it since it's not mouldy in the slightest, but if anyone has a dodgy one they seem pretty accommodating if you want rid.

She didn't know why but spoke to one of the managers who seemed to think that they would probably be back on sale on Friday once they had sorted out the problem.
If it is because of the mould then hopefully the supplier will point out this is normal and they'll appear again.

Cut off a couple of large slices of fat to expose the meat on one side, and save them.
Slice off however much meat you want to serve and then place the fat slices back over the cut surface.
If you're not planning on going back for more ham for more than a day or so, then rub a little olive oil into the cut surface before replacing the fat.
Hope that makes sense?

Earlier I wrote about the "hard meat" on the Serrano ham. It's called "garron" being meat from the shank ..... and the Spanish word shouldn't be confused with the French "jambon" . Morrisons pack reads: "Hecho en Espana" ..... "Made in Spain"

Morrisons has an English language label saying: "best before ....." Mine has an October date so there's your "Eleven months" ..... it isn't the curing time. As for storing just keep it in a cool place out of the sun; we have brought them from Spain and kept them hanging in the kitchen with a small bowl underneath to catch any fat which might drip down. They do tend to get hard to cut but chop it into chunks and use for a casserole or stew. They sell cheaper bits like that in Spanish shops to use in that way......can't remember what it is called. But it does work well with haricot beans.@

They are around 100 portions( depends how you cut the portions its enough for a small wedding)on a 7 kg leg and each 100 grams of dried portion its made with 150 grams of fresh meat. I think it takes 6 months till goes bad could be 12 months (the box have a expire date) and depends the way you store it afterwards. You need to leave it as it is in the original box(have hols on sides of it for air to circulate) after you open it, cleaned it with olive oil when you want to eat again. The surface slices might need to go in the bin as they are a bit to dry to be chewed. Don't forget to give the bone to the family dog if you have one and its big enaugh, its gone make a nice treat as near to the bone its not so salty. Best of all at this moment regarding price/quant/qual at this moment as Asda is gone do one for £29 with stand but no knife( £10 to £20 as its a thin special knife for thin slices). Hence the fact that this is part of the black friday deal as advertise so the price could go up after.
