Currys showing why they suck at customer service as usual. When I first had the TV it looked incredible. Then literally within days the picture quality deteriorated so that everything is basically displayed in SD quality with no HD or 4K upscale!

I'm more than happy with it , class picture and the 4K is crazy ,much lighter than my old 40 inch tv. I'm not to botherd about people saying about the slow remote but my previous sammy was like that so no difference for me. It's a twin hd tuner so I can record 1 hd channel to my external hard drive and watch another hd channel so that's an improvement . I'm sure they will have a better offer next month for you .

Lots of people complaining about light bleed. Could have been a bad batch of panels from CHE MEI (Innolux) perhaps. Some people being given false information that its a Samsung panel in the tv but looking at the European version sold in Holland it is not. There is only one panel listed. Double checked their records with my son's UE40EH5000 which has a choice of 3 panels over here and it checked out the same as Holland. Unfortunately I have not found a genuine Samsung parts supplier in the UK who lists the different panels like they have in America but I found one in Holland. Quite interesting information and if Richer Sounds or Currys tell you this model has a Sammy panel in it ask them if they can prove it.
Irrespective of that I have an LG with this panel in it and it has a good picture. It's a bit blocky on fast moving but otherwise a nice screen. I nearly bought this Samsung a couple of weeks ago but although it looks nice I felt the menu system was slow and didn't have as good a picture as I would expect from a £700.00 tv. I see it's now up at £999.00 and think Currys are having a laugh with the price as it's not a £999.00 tv.

Was that in Currys. They should be investigated by watchdog....again. They just seem to want to tell you any sort of crap to get a sale and some tv's are better than others for the same or similar money. There should be a crackdown on false marketing and people who sell tv's should really know something about what they are selling. At least the women are honest lol. Does anyone actually know what LG's 1400 PMI is. It's still a 100/120Hz panel which is what is in my own LG which was sold as having 500 of LG's whateverisms of this time last year. So in a year the television companies have managed to double or more their own refresh rates. Remarkable technology and breakthroughs like never before. Am sure we would have heard of it somewhere. No, its just a load of crap by the manufacturers. They must think we are stupid. The pictures refresh rates are identical to where they were last year and I remember 20 years ago we had tv's that were 100Hz. Thank god we have rtings.com who can give us some honest answers regarding refresh rates. They fiddle their own scores using the picture setting that the techs tell us to turn off to improve overall picture performance.
Can you image car manufacturers suddenly saying their cars produce 250bhp from their 125bhp engines from last year by altering how they get the figures. You buy one to find it still only does 0 to 60 in 9.2 seconds because the engine is the same. Exactly the same with tv's.
For the Samsung I see there are lots of complaints with light bleed. I was immediately put off this tv when I put it onton BBC 1 and also hated the slow response of the remote. Immediately struck off my list.

Yes that's very true regarding the help. I always find the staff in Richer Sounds most helpful and unfortunately for Currys they either have some very nice lady who is helpful but doesn't know one tv from another or you get the guy who thinks he knows more than you do about your requirements and speaks the Currys sales pitch to the letter. I heard one of these guys yesterday telling a customer why they should spend 40 quid on an hdmi lead that's so much better than anyone else's etc etc. HDMi is a standard and watchdog proved you don't get a better signal the more you pay and that a lead costing a fiver will be as good as using one 6, 7 or 8 times that cost. This guy in Currys was telling this customer how much better 4k tv's were in comparison and that it is the new technology and he shouldn't be looking at any 1080 tv's. I heard him say that 4k was coming to freeview next year, implying all channels, and the picture quality would be better in all formats in comparison with 1080 tv's. I could not see any evidence of this when viewing the HD set next to 4k from about 6 to 8 feet away which would be my normal viewing distance. Its all hype to shift the more expensive tv's. Eventually all screens will be 4k but for now I see no difference.

I got landed with someone who read the 1400 PMI to be 1400hz refresh rate and kept banging on about that being the reason to buy it. Then I noticed the severe light bleed and said WTF is that. They said the TVs are on all day long so what do you expect?! Fantastic.

Currys at Clough Road in Hull are plugged into their dtv service so you can have a look at all of the week signals. In my opinion the Samsung posted is not very good on SD and LG 49UF770v (not the 850v) although a little better is not better than my current LG 50LB650v which cost quite a bit less. The Samsung was very slow at populating tv guide, channels etc and was immediately off my list. The LG was far better but image not picture perfect. They were both outshone by Sony KDL-50W8009C. All 3 tv's were on the same row and I set them all up on bbc1 and then bbc1 HD. Not much to choose between the Samsung and LG in HD but they were both still beaten by the Sony. To be honest I couldn't see any difference between the Sony on HD and the LG on its UHD memory stick plugged into the usb. I guess that's why the Sony is jus about sold out and there is still stock of the LG. If you don't need 4k then the Sony gives you £150 in your pocket to buy something useful with.
Another tv in the row in front was an LG LF561v. On HD BBC1 it was as good as the more expensive LG and Samsung.
One tv that beat them all was the tv in front of the above three. It was the Panasonic 700B oh and the OLED LG but that was 4k at 4k (£3,995.00).

I made a mistake. I saw the LG again and its truly awful, especially for normal SD Freeview. I would say the Samsung is better but still these new TVs are a con IMO. If its 4K or 1080p then great otherwise you just get all the imperfections of SD thrown at you in a blurry horrible mess.

True and worse when the local Currys are unable to set up a viewing for a normal real world SD channel like 5 or itv2 , and admitted you can't find out untill it's set up in your home , so annoying I mean you test drive a car before you buy normally !

I compared this one with the LG and thought the JU6800 was superior. We all look for different things I guess. One might be smoother but slightly poor at contrast or colours, etc, etc.
What I noticed immediately with the Samsung vs LG was the detail the Samsung seemed to have in the out of focus parts of the image - just seemed better.
