Sadly Samsung's update process is badly flawed. Wipe and reset the device (a PITA I know) and you'll see a massive change in battery life.

Some funny responses here. Clearly the nexus is the better phone. I've had a note 4 for 8 months and counting, and a note 3 for 15 months prior. Great phones, but there's no doubt about it, pure android will always be better than touchwiz.

Don't buy a samy, awful experience and my note 3 went for a repair 3 times in 14 months. They never fixed the problem each time. My mum has a samy and after 12 months it's dead. I can't find the receipt and samy are refusing to fix it although I did provide the confirmation of the order :disappointed:

That's a few Note 4 deals I've went into and people slagging it off or comparing it to the Note 5, Nexus 6P etc
I own a Note 4 and love it! Nexus phones are great if your a software guy, slick and always get updates first etc but as I keep saying the Nexus 6 and 6P are just big phones with excellent software nothing more.
The Note is more a power user productivity device, with the s pen, expandable storage,multi window, removable battery! to me it's more a mobile computer than just a phone and this is where I see the difference between it and the Nexus range.

A warranty covers damage that occurs through normal usage. Being careful might not matter. I was a little annoyed that I might have to unlock the bootloader on my LG G4 to root and install Xposed framework and that would void my warranty. However after a quick Google I found a way to do both without unlocking the bootloader.

A hell of a lot of unnecessary bloat, it would appear. Touchwiz is the most horrific rendition of Android I've ever encountered. As soon as the opportunity came to pre order the 6P I jumped on it.
It's just not fluid at all. My colleague has a Note 4 and currently complains of exactly the same as I did. It stutters, hangs, crashes and app opening is clunky. Worst of all are the random reboots on 5.1.1!
I mean if your battery life is genuinely that, that's exceptional. Most people seem to get 4-6 hours!

No i havenn't owned one, unless anybody can recommend a phone that can offer as many options as the Note 4 at a better price, i'll be getting the Note 4 after xmas, which by then will most likely make it an ever better deal!
That Meenova device doesn't look very nice sticking out of the bottom of a phone like that and i can see that fragile plug bending and/or breaking off.
As long as the Nexus doesn't offer more than the Note 4, i won't ever go Nexus because i can do more with a Note 4.

but other than the launcher what else is there in the Touchwiz rom that causes an issue? Most just dislike the launcher.
you may have had poor battery life after an OS upgrade on a Note...it's very common, sadly the fix is a reset and wipe to get battery life back on par. As I said I usually get 2 full days out of mine with 7-8 hours SoT.
As for coverage, that depends where you live i guess...not everyone lives in a large city or town with great 3/4g coverage.

That's the Touchwiz launcher removed, but not the touchwiz ROM it's sitting on top of :wink:
The battery isn't that good, I had one for 6 months and got around 3-4 hours screen on time, disappointing from such a large battery.
As for the media, that's fair enough, yet I struggle to see the value in having that much content loaded into the device with the coverage quality these days. I have around 300GB content in my Google Drive, but even on my 128GB SD I struggled to use more than 10 locally.

Have a Nexus 5 and a Note 3. Prefer the Note 3 running a custom Touchwiz rom with Note 5 functions. Touchwiz has come a long way since the early days and is actually quite good now. The Note 5 version is the first time I've not bothered replacing the Launcher with Nova.
I get 2 full days out of my note4 battery without using any silly power saving apps...and when it finally does run out I stick in my spare battery (genuine Samsung £14 from amazon)
I also have 100Gb of Media sitting on my SD card that my phone will happily play whether I've got a data connection or not and without a little adaptor sticking out of the bottom of my phone :-)

I personally take good care of my devices and have never needed to utiliise my warranty, so it's a minor issue for me.
I've owned my Note 3 for 2+ years and it's still going strong on the original battery and when that finally dies i have a spare battery waiting for it to keep going on, by which time you probably would have had to buy a 2 additional devices..
I'm sure by rooting, i can have the Note 4 running like a stock device if not better.
The principle here is having MORE options, which you DON'T have.

After 2 years - The Note 4 will still be a good phone with a fresh battery and a no worry root option if you desire. The others - well you'd better hope your fixed battery is still retaining a charge! But of course the majority will be looking for another phone by then !

Rooting provides tweaks, not a solution. Touchwiz is slow and disgustingly ineffiinefficient. As soon as you experience stock you'd fall out of love with the Note.

I personally don't have any complaints about touchwiz and if i did, i could always root my Note 4, problem solved!
The fact is, the Note 4 is an all rounder device that ticks the MOST boxes of all phones on the market today AND at a very competitive price, which makes it the phone with the best spec/price ratio!

While you are right about nexus ,you are far away from reality if you think Note 5 is only slightly faster more powerful than Note 4.I had Note 4 ans now Note 5 and 5 is a major improvement in terms of speed,power,spen and definitely way better looking and feeling device.
lack of SD and battery sucks but the phone is so much more powerful and faster.

I have a note 4. I actually like touchwiz. some useful features that I do use. goes well with my tab pro. there are some useless features too. I get occasional lag but nothing major. each to their own.

The 6P design is awful - that back glass camera cover is monstrous and you'd better hope it doesn't crack!
You can come here and spout forth all you can - but the reason why folks go for the Note 4 is because they want the flexibility of a removable battery and external SD storage - pure and simple. I don't give a fig for the slight increase in performance of an S6, 6P or a Note 5 - they are all crippled phones!

After coming from a Note 4 to a Nexus 6P, I can confirm the 6P is superior. Device speed, fluidity, aesthetics, feel, quality, design, software and general ownership is better in every way.
If you need an enormous amount of storage sure, get an SD device.
Battery although not removable, is a hell of a lot better on Nexus, lasts ages especially with Doze.
Software is the biggest point. Stock is so far ahead of Touchwiz it's actually amusing.
not if you want a better battery life and SD card storage....

You either had a bad SD card or corrupt files.
To test, put a blank file labeled ".Nomedia" in the root directory of the SD card, and see if you still have problems. If that fixes your problem then you have an indexing problem potentially with a corrupt file somewhere. You can remove the nomedia file from the root directory and put the nomedia file in each directory individually one at a time to test to see which directory has the corrupt file.

Ironically until you put in an SD Card. Slows it down a tonne. Got rid of mine in the end, had a 128GB stick in there. Second I took it out, wooosh.

Some will say the extra £63 is worth their peace of mind, but the saving will fund a case and a 128GB memory card.
