I saw this on SF and thought it might be useful to someone. I haven't seen this price ever on a direct flight to Thailand. the closest deal on here was an openjaw going from Rome for £400 2 years ago. 787 Dreamliner direct. Tried skyscanner and the best price was £420

Great price, but be warned that Phuket is the ar#e of the world.Full of scams and scammers.
If you want to pay the equivalent of £60 for a 2 mile taxi ride then this is the place for you.Be prepared to be beaten up if you look at someone the wrong way, also the so called `police`will not help you if you have a problem.
BTW i am married to a Thai so i hate having to tell people/friends to avoid this place like the plague,it has changed from a tropical paradise 10 years ago to what it is now.
Just google, jet ski scams or tuk tuk scams to get an idea of what to expect.

Then take a £60 return flight to Bangkok on thai aiways about 1 1/2 hour flight after you have explored Phuket for a day or read this thread for cheap deals and city hopping Thanks to blueskies (ex-travel expert) but I see my comments about your accolades have been removed from your thread. I was there 6 yrs and it was fine education/awareness so Google and lonely planet guide are your friends  A few tried the taxi scam and 'the palace is closed today' scam but that war in Bangkok..... Never had an issue in phuket. Just have common sense, if something doesn't seem right then it probably isn't...... We had a great safe time

We are just back from patong and had an amazing holiday and can honestly say we didn't have a problem at all , things were a bit more expensive than we thought they would be but we weren't attacked robbed or scammed , our hotel was beautiful ( Amari ) and the staff couldn't have done enough for us .

Get a bus, train or whatever over to Koh Samui, a much nicer place but still full of people trying to get you to go to certain bars and stuff. Personally i would never go back to Thailand, every trip (three) has had more than enough problems

21 Nov 15#26
I fully agree but come on its not like the foreigners are forcing themselves on them now is it!?
vanityfair to futura
21 Nov 15#35
I don't think you can blame the foreigners alone. The Thais do have an aspect to their culture that encourages this. When I was there I hated the signs that said ' No Thai women allowed upstairs' in so many Thai hotels so disrespectful to Thai women.

Yes unlike Britain which isn't full of foreigners?
My wife and I go regularly to Thailand and there are loads of places where you can still go and just enjoy the real Thailand.
As for the deal, if Phuket isn't your cup of tea (certainly not mine) then Krabi is only a taxi ride away where there is little in the way of girly bars and scams.

I'm not a big fan of Phuket but there are Plently of nice places to go in Thailand!
Organising travel is very easy in Thailand so you don't have to stay in Phuket if you don't want to.. Personally I'd grab a flight to Bangkok and then organise travel to Koh Tao!

You've got plently of options from Phuket.. You can easily organise day trips to Maya Bay, James Bond Island.. I'd also recommend checking out the Phi Phi Islands as they're very easily accessible from Phuket.
If you're looking to party then Koh Phangan is probably the best island for it.. although Phi Phi also has some good beach parties..
Koh Tao is the best island for Scuba diving if you're into that.. I spent 2 weeks there doing my PADI Open Water and then just doing dives everyday.. it's more laid back than some of the islands which I loved..
For temple tours etc.. there's quite a bit to see in Bangkok but you can do all of that in a day really..

I don`t think i said everybody that goes there gets robbed/attacked,just has a higher proportion of attacks, scams than most parts of thailand.

22 Nov 15#55
Ah yes, don`t get me started on Koh Tao(Death Island).Remember those 2 tourists who were brutally murdered there just over a year ago, everyone on the island knows who the murderers were(including the diving community)and they keep there mouths shut like the cowards they are.
Narcotix
22 Nov 15#56
Koh Tao is Very safe.. I travelled there solo and spent 2 weeks there just 3 months after the murders occurred.. It's by far my favourite island and I'm definitely going back as soon as I can!
It's just a shame that I can't get any time off work till after Xmas now or else I'd have been all over these flights..

It did sound like it by the "full of" mention. How much higher proportion? Are there statistics available?
dundee48
22 Nov 15#59
Koh Tao is most definately not safe,it is run by 5 mafia families, the Royal Thai Police(the biggest mafia organisation in Thailand)are completely in the pockets of these thugs. If anything bad happens to you on this island you are on your own.
I understand you love the island and do all your diving things there but that does not make it safe.

Was hoping for actual statistics as you mentioned it's a higher proportion
From the first gov link it states: Although the crime threat in Bangkok and other Thai cities remains lower than that in many U.S. cities

I do understand that bad things happen to tourists everywhere in the world and i could probably find links for bad things happening in `noddyland`but from personal experience i felt i had to remind people it is not the paradise it once was hence the vastly reduced flight prices.Bear in mind 15-20 years ago Phuket was an exclusive, upmarket island visited by by royals from around the world, not any more.
Was hoping for actual statistics as you mentioned it's a higher proportion
