Six years after the destruction of Raccoon City, Leon Kennedy, now an agent with the US Secret Service, is sent on a rescue mission in Europe. His target is Ashley Graham, the president's daughter. Leon locates a man in a remote house in the mountains and inquires about Ashley's whereabouts, but receives no answer. Suddenly, the man turns and attempts to strike Leon! Visions of the horror of Raccoon City flood Leon's mind as he realizes his nightmare has not yet ended

Capcom are signed up to support backwards compatibility, so no developer issues with this title.
Might have to pick this up a I love all the RE games

My point is too many people are saying "not BC" but it's new, BC wasn't even a possibility last year, it's a bargain for a great game regardless of console.

Is there much of a difference in this HD remaster? I love this game, but I have it on GameCube & Wii and if I'm going to buy it for a third time, I would like a visual upgrade.

Not really. It's quite a lazy HD port. It contains all the Wii extras. The PC HD edition is probably the one to go for if you want a bit more HD flair l.
