You could also buy a lemon for £3873 and end up spending another grand in addition to wear and tear items over the 2 years, then cost of tax, likely higher fuel costs. Doesn't work out much cheaper over the 2 years and you have sit sit in someones else's bogies, mucus and piles juices.

Not sure you quite get the point of leasing a brand new car, do you?

I've 'liked' your comment anyway. Just in case it was said it the tone of a sarcastic genius.....

Love leasing and always will, I wouldn't want an old motor for £3873, I want and like a brand new motor every 2/3 years, unfortunately there are always gonna be haters!

You could buy a decent car for £3873 and probably get at least £2000 for it 2 years later.

don't they have a 4 year warranty the new Renault's? Can't be any worse than a vw now can it :-P
oddballjamie to 7800gtman
5 Nov 15 1 #7
It's a two year lease, the warranty length is irrelevant. What you need to think is do you want to be paying out monthly if it's in and out the garage all the time.

Iv just ordered mine. I was simply looking for a run around but having two children the thought of a C1 or a VW UP is completely unpractical. My budget was £100-130 pm and the only other cars i could find were very small city cars. The whole french stigma with cars is that they don't last....like the previous comment suggests, im only having it for two years. I don't think any manufacturer can afford to make bad cars anymore or cut corners as recalls and warranty covered issues surely cost them way too much! Fingers crossed, should be getting it in two weeks!
7800gtman
6 Nov 15 #9
well if they offer a 4 year warranty it's doubtful it's going to be in the garage much in first two years unless your really unlucky . Goes for most cars really, should be fine for first few years which is all you need for a lease. Most modern cars are within about 10 % of each other in terms of reliability etc.

You also might not have £3873 to spend today but can afford a monthly outlay of £130 in future. Alas, good deal - those slating French cars probably still believe they still sit in the dump along with Skoda.

You could, but then it won't be new and there is a higher risk of increased maintenance costs and things going wrong.

From a financial sense you're not necessarily wrong but it's a different mindset. I've been looking at lease cars with maintenance purely down to the fact I just want worry free motoring - by doing it this way I know what it will cost me and can budget accordingly. Having had a bit of bad luck with older cars when my current car bites the dust this is likely the route I will go down.

All cars 'last' (ie they don't rust to pieces) but there are some that you wouldn't want to live with too long. Good luck, you may get a good one but they are infamous for electrical issues in particular and you don't get a lease refund for every day it's in the garage with some disinterested tech trying to fix it. Just keep telling yourself how cheap it is when it's off the road again.

Good price but is it really in stock? A lot of these leasing site putting deals just to lure customers in, and then they try to offer them other cars.

I cant see the problem with French cars.I drove a Renault 19 about 15 years ago {I used it as a taxi}.I now have a Citreon and it has been reliable for the last 3 years I intend to keep it for at least another year.If you are leasing you wont have much to do with the oily bits anyway.
brookysm to alan mcculloch
11 Nov 15 #35
The 19 went out of production nearly 20 years ago and was of an era when the French knew how to build a decent diesel engine.

The same cannot be said of today...

10 Nov 15 #24
I had Clio diesel some time back. It did 150k miles and never let me down, was still going strong when I sold it on. Don't know what they're like now but I have no grudges against French cars. Seems like a good lease deal to me. Heat added.

No French cars still are as c%£p as ever!
defconluke
11 Nov 15 #36
Remind me again how anyone can possibly review a BRAND NEW car for how reliable it will be through two years of ownership? :man:

Even in the JD Power list, this Renault is rated overall (if not in segment) above a car made by BMW, Ford, Nissan and Audi.
Likewise, the highest placed French car (Peugeot 3008) is 19th, above the paragon of reliability and quality that is the Volkswagen Golf.

If you are going to talk nonsense, at least be able to try and back it up.
brookysm
11 Nov 15 #37
If you want taking nonsense then your right at the starting point fella! Take a look at the registration plate, its a 63 which means that the car would now be around 2 years old! After owning that car that long then someone could do an 'unbiased review' of living with one not simply a quick test drive and look round which is what was posted!

The problem with JD Power is that they rely on people to give their opinions, who do you know with a 3008, how many you know own a Golf? French cars are rubbish, they are for folk that haven't a clue about cars and once you're in one using your own money its going to cost you heavily to move away - that is fact my friend not fiction!
defconluke
11 Nov 15 #38
Look at the details in the video description, it's already in a bold font there but here it is again for your benefit: Published on Feb 3, 2014

Registered on a 63 plate that means the car could have been around 6 months old or fresh off the production line and would have been in Renault's Press Fleet of vehicles to go out to publications for review purposes (much like how your local dealer would have a demonstrator model for a new car for people to try).

JD Power is the biggest survey of its type and the information typically comes from owners, not from what your friend's, mate's, uncle's brother got told by the butcher last week.

Bet you still think Italian cars will all rust away within 5 years too.
brookysm
11 Nov 15 #39
No fella, 20+ years in the motor trade (including working for Renault!)

OK Review date Feb 2014, its now Nov 2015 - 21 months since the review or put it another way - 3 months off 2 years ago!!!

Seeing as you're so cock sure of yourself then what exactly about the 'unbiased review' you posted gave an insight into running one for 2 years eh?

Oh and JD Power isn't the most accurate at all, you want accuracy about a cars reliability you look at warranty claims and recalls not the opinion of someone who clearly like you knows jack about cars cos c'mon admit it, you've bought one haven't you..
markfrst
11 Nov 15 #40
Obviously a man that knows nothing about cars.. and I bet most people moaning have never had a Renault - just heard of their friends one that broke down after not being serviced for 3 years.

I have the 2.0 M9R DCI engine in my 2007 Laguna daily producing 175bhp, at the time it was the most powerful 2.0d available anywhere (BMW had only 163bhp) (was also available in 150bhp) its just gone over 85k and not one thing on the engine has broken, the DPF is original and never causes issue(50 miles a day). VW fit a 2.0 Diesel to their cars that has only 138bhp(Passat/Scirocco etc) how is that good?

The smaller engine 1.5d is so bad that since 2012 Merc have used it in their A and B class.

(Plus the Renault wont rust unlike a lot of the others)
brookysm
11 Nov 15 #41
Calls me a man who clearly knows nothing about cars and then goes on to say that never had a problem with the DPF even tho he does 50 miles a day when you don't suffer DPF issues with mileage - its lack of that causes the issue.....

Oh and yeah, 1st thing any sane person would do after looking at BMW's is go buy a Renault instead because the engine kicks out a few more BHP...

There's more to power with engines, the low powered diesel from VW and Audi is for those who want cheap running with their company car as they are in the bottom tax band for emissions (tho that might soon change...) so pay the least they can for benefit in kind on their tax bill, if you want more power then the 2.0 is available upto 177bhp, want even more then they are well known for being chipped up over the 200's and even more with a few other mods.

Oh yeah, I forgot how bulletproof Mercedes's rep is these days after the accountants started running the show.

Think it is you sir who knows jack about cars!....
markfrst
11 Nov 15 #42
We were merely talking about the engines as you said Renault made bad ones, I'm not saying to choose a Renault over a BMW but the fact is the BMW/VW Diesels are no better( infact worse ) than French ones. There are countless issues with the smaller BMW diesels not just the DPF - manifolds, turbos. My 'rubbish' French ones are fine still. VW T5 vans seem to be the most unreliable van you can buy from what I've seen. The BMW 2.0 BMW diesels are more noisy than mine, the MPG is probably better on the BMW but the car cost a lot more to buy I suspect.
I'd rather buy a faster Renault than a pathetically slow VW ( and probably still be cheaper to buy ), a Rep isn't going to buy a Scirocco, I would take a Megane Renaultsport Coupe over a 138bhp Diesel VW anyday, most people who have any interest in cars would too.

Had a 4 year old megane - internal lights and reversing lights came on whenever I went round a left hand bend (yeah... hilarious, I know!). Spent weeks in and out of different garages and no fix. Never again. I'm sure I was 'unlucky' but I was still really inconvenienced by it all...

Sure, it may well happen to my [insert other brand] or whatever I buy next but at least I won't be thinking to myself 'your last 3 french cars were crap, why did you buy another one?'. For me, its my own personal experience, of french cars (and vw's for that matter - different problems but same end result. Weeks in garage and problem unfixed), so no, NOT pub talk. I concede that for every car out there, there is someone who has had a bad experience with it but no one drops 4k on something they dont research properly first...
