Got one 2 days ago, delivered today. After 3-4 hours of testing decided to return it. Decoding quality of non hd channels is really bad, worse than my Goodmans. Menu guide navigation is also slower, not happy overall. I don't think I will trust Humax products anymore after this. I have had great expectation from the product, now disappointed.

Surprised at that, as most reviews are excellent. Perhaps a dud?

Bargain. Definitely worth the money. Got one works well. Even streams from my NAS box too ☺

Are the recordings to HDD encrypted / locked to that box?
Also, I assume it's single tuner, so no recording one thing and watching another...?

The website says single tuner . . . so the 500GB version is a better option for mainstream viewing (now back in stock by the way).

Thanks for this OP. I've ordered one. Got a few hdds lying around that can be stuck into a cheap usb caddy to record with. Postage was min £7 for me which was a shame but £46 for a humax with a years warranty can't be bad.

Are you sure? I thought that Sky boxes were limited to receiving only those free channels that Sky want to give you, and Freesat has many, many more.

I got one of these refurbished boxes a few months back, its a fantastic bit of kit. Anyone worried about the recording function don't be, I got a 750gb Toshiba hard disk for £30 plugged it in by usb and its instantly good to go, nothing technical to do. So for £60 you will have all the features of a much more expensive box.
The only issue in my opinion is that its only a single tuner so you cant record one channel and watch another, I get around this by switching to freeview but others may not be able to.

These are great for the price. Personally I wouldn't get one and attach an external drive to it. Better to get one with a built-in record facility for a little more but then I have having a tangle of wires around. If you can record onto a USB stick it would be neat. Anyone clarify that?

This box has only one LNB input so you can't watch a different channel when it's recording

Is it worth getting one of these if I have a Sky box already and a PC for on demand stuff?

Well you have to pay extra for a box with those features - there was a 500GB refurb that was on here yesterday for £99, now sold out.
