I had to when I clipped a kerb (no comments about women drivers, please!) and ripped my tyre. My OH came to the rescue to change the wheel but couldn't get it off so we called our rescue service (Green Flag). They were great and did it straight away so I should think RAC would do that too.

sorry for being dumb but could you explain this a bit more. I need to purchase this for myself and hubby so wondering whether to do it like you have stated. thank you!
It's £42.35 for a year and you have to claim back the fees but these are usually back in your account within weeks, It insures the person, not the car. This means vehicle age, mileage and reliability are irrelevant, plus caravans and trailers will also be towed if attached to your car. Also Free cover for a spouse. Onward transport. Most budget policies only fix the car at the roadside or tow it to a garage. With AutoAid you'll get transport to your destination for up to six people in total (inclusive of the driver).
and includes Home breakdown cover

Regarding quidco not paying out, these cash back companies often do this now and again IMO to keep extra revenue for themselves. I have threaten them with small claims court action in the past and they paid up afterwards or offer half. TCB atm are not paying on a £92 cash back from a transaction in dec2014, despite the threat of legal action they still have not paid, so I will proceed with small claims court action against them when I have the time. Don't let them get away with it in the future.

Nationwide's Flexplus account gives free breakdown cover along with loads of other benefits like travel insurance, phone insurance, extended electricals warranty etc. It's £10-a-month but put £2,500 in it and get £6.25 a month interest before tax.
Their pay and claim scheme is a joke. You have to pay the recovery service that arrives on the scene upfront. Imagine being stranded without your wallet and cash. I'd like to see how they work around that.
Then there's the claim procedure of sending out an invoice to them for reimbursement which could amount to endless problems on its own if you lose or misplace your invoice.

the horible thing about any of these RAC/AA cashback schemes is that they seem to have a date of up to x months for the claim to be paid and, by then, you've forgotten and then, when you remember, you find out that there's a time limit to outstanding claims. great way to get you to stump up the maximum amount that noone in their right mind would contemplate...
as for nationwide, while it feels a good deal, i worry that the only time i've used them so far, a chap came up in an enormous transporter to sort out a flat battery issue , while he jump started it easily, he didn't have the equipment to check if the battery itself was charging or not. didn't inspire a huge amount of confidence and, tbh, i've no idea who the nationwide contract is actually with. so, damned if you do and etc. etc.

However you slice it, it's still an awful way of doing things. I want my breakdown cover to be as convenient as possible, because breaking down is a massive inconvenience. This just adds unnecessary hassle.
Tried reading T&C's last night. I have a small van for florist business, do about 4k miles per year, max 30 mile journey.
Would this cover it? the T&C's seem to suggest I need Business cover at over £100/year but AA T&Cs read as though I can use their standard cover.
Only needed breakdown cover a couple of times in last 26 years of trading so don't fancy paying over £100/year for it.

You're obviously not studying Linguistics because it didn't say anywhere I AM a student. But even if I was, the credit card is usually IN the wallet. Point still stands, this process is a unnecessary deviation from the norm. It works out better and possibly cheaper to use the conventional method.
You're not really addressing the point. If one breaks down and forgets to bring any type of payment option (which is possible in a number of circumstances), they're going to have to find a specific recovery service which might take longer than usual. So why skimp on a few extra quid for these unfortunate and quite probable set of circumstances.
As I said, each to their own, but I felt it necessary to mention this for those here who didn't know or don't have time to read the blurb on the Autoaid website. No one is stopping you from signing up with them, most certainly not me.

and if you never take a copy of an invoice that you sending you're a dumbass
Plus the hundreds of 1 star reviews on Trustpilot shoud be a red flag to anyone thinking of using this company https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.rac.co.uk
Would this cover it? the T&C's seem to suggest I need Business cover at over £100/year but AA T&Cs read as though I can use their standard cover.
Only needed breakdown cover a couple of times in last 26 years of trading so don't fancy paying over £100/year for it.
I've also been in situations where I wouldn't have had the money to pay the recovery service in the first place. It's called being a student. No one's stopping you from doing it, but not for me and many others who would agree.
I've selected Vehicle, selected Roadside and At Home Rescue (I'm guessing this is what people are calling Homestart)
It's now coming up £91.99, so with Quidco of £40 (down from £45) = £51.99
Your cover
Vehicle - 1 Vehicle, Roadside Rescue, Recovery, At Home Rescue
You Pay: £91.99
and yes I have broken down with no money.... the solution is called credit card, also since youre a student you have 0%apr overdraft so your excuse is pointless
I will keep a close eye on it over the next 2 weeks.
