Had a look at these on Thursday. Don't know if they are different from previous buys, but they were really roughly machined. Would have to be sharpened from scratch. Decided I might as well continue to do that with chisels I already have.
Most cheap chisels require this anyway. Silicon carbide or aluminium oxide paper on float glass and a lot of sweat. Cheap chisel/plane blade sharpening surfaces don't last very long. The cheap blade holders are pretty useless too. Need to spend serious money to get anything that actually works.

A couple of years ago I watched a seasoned old joiner sharpen his chisel on an upturned belt sander - tried it myself and must say, it's very effective. I guess any purist cabinet maker would look on with disdain but it's a huge timesaver and I've been doing it ever since!

Yes I used a wooden mallet, Hammers are for nails :smiley:

Had some of these, didn't take long for the handles to fall off/split. May be fine for very light work.
