Music moves people; it unites us, it allows us to relax, and sometimes, when done right, it can even motivate us to do great things. Poweramp does great things.
The #1 paid music player in the Google Play Store 4 years running—Poweramp is the most powerful music player available on the Android OS. Features like gapless play, an unmatched equalization system, great crossfade, and support for most popular music file format might all make Poweramp the best $3.99 you have ever spent in your life—2+ million users would agree to that.

Hotter than a jalapeno's ignited fart! It is THE music player on Android.
Pro-tip: Make sure, if you have any porn on your android device, that it doesn't get added to your media library.
Otherwise shuffle becomes a game of "porn sounds Russian roulette". If Poweramp can read the audio from a video file, it will happily do so. Ooooh yeeeeah. Like that. Yeah, you like that, don't you? You're a naughty boy.

However, as Nexy noted if you do have any porn make sure you exclude it by choosing a designated folder, I found out the hard way and a the screaming vocals of Bon Jovi came to an end in came (no pun intended) the sounds of what I tried to play it off as a dog eating a pack of ice lollies came playing at full volume whilst my family was in the car...

it's v good at album art if u have the correct tags on the the media file / mp3. also if u have album art in the folder of these mp3 it would probably use it by default. if u r music is on the SD card consider the limitations by android KK and above. the work around is it place it in the app folder. as for random playback, I never had any incidents

I bought this years ago because the volume on Android devices was so low even on max. Poweramp has a preamp so you can boost up the volume considerably to a decent level. Otherwise it's a good player with easy controls and equaliser etc.

20 Nov 15#205
OK, is it just me or is anyone else having major problems accessing their music library? Just downloaded this (thought it was worth a punt for 10p!), only it scans my phone and finds precisely zero mp3 tracks...zero, nada, nowt. This is despite me having a number of albums on there that I have bought, paid for and downloaded from Google Play (I have a Nexus 5 running Marshmallow btw). I've just been poking round online and it seems that Google, bless 'em, have changed the way music is stored on Android so that it now appears to be in a secure, hidden location somewhere that cannot be accessed. Just great...thanks Google. So I basically have zero choice in the matter and I *have* to use Google's music player...no exceptions.
I've tried scanning the phone (using File Manager) and I've looked in all the "standard" locations (e.g. storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com/google/android/music/files) but there are absolutely no mp3s there.
Strange thing is, no-one else seems to have had this problem? Is it just me? Or are others having this issue too?

Hi Matt!
Depends on what you have but if it's google music it's a pain in the neck to use, there's a lot more freedom with Poweramp. I don't have a mental list but the worst thing for me is when you go to "songs" and everything is listed alphabetically by song name. My iPod Nano always sorted songs by artist, then by title and I prefer that, so that all songs by the same artists appear in the block. Poweramp lets me sort songs by various criteria, artist, album, year, date added, etc. both ascending and descending, like you would in a decent OS file explorer. You can also view as a list, rather than a grid, which is what Play music forces you to do in Artist or Album mode. I realise these are small things but they make a big difference in how it feels to use the app. Like a lot of default apps, it's designed so that something is possible without caring whether it's done well.
Another thing, Poweramp responds to lock screen presses a lot quicker so skipping tracks doesn't require a looooooong press.
Poweramp isn't perfect, it's UI is a little unintuitive but it seems possible to get it to do what you want with a little learning and I'm sure the developers respond to feedback, I don't think Google will spend much time caring about Play Music users views.

Make sure "Respond to Buttons" is checked. The Bluetooth (Single press (fast)) might not be working properly, change it to something else to see.

Is Internet connection required?
← Poweramp F.A.Q.
Internet connection is not required for normal operation.
Internet connection is required for a short time after Poweramp purchase.
Poweramp (main app):
- uses optional Internet connection for Album art downloading, and Support.
Poweramp Unlocker:
- for Play purchase license is checked via Internet in first 24 hours after Unlocker installation and Poweramp next start, and if the Google Play Store check is successful, then it's never checked again, unless Poweramp is reinstalled, system is reset, or ROM is updated
- for Website purchase, license is checked via Internet once after Unlocker installation and Poweramp next start, and if the check is successful, then it's never checked again, unless Poweramp is reinstalled, system is reset, or ROM is updated
If license check is failed, Poweramp will try to check it until it fails completely in few attempts

Good deal. Thanks.
Purchased after hearing so much about this, wasn't aware there was a trial.
Definitely better sounding than a regular player. Default is set to Mono, not Stereo, under Tone/Vol. Bizarre choice given how much better undoing Mono makes it sound.

Yeah, that's how I used to use it before I went cloud-based; that presumes two things; 1) I have the storage space (which I do) and 2) I own the MP3s rather than cloud-variants, which using Google Play Music you don't. Play Music's fine for me these days, but this player has significantly better sound.
In the past, all you could do is cache a bunch of audio on Play and then find the cache files using poweramp... which is a bit crap. It's a shame Google haven't sorted the API access out :/
The advantage to cloud-based services is primarily intelligent playlists and stuff.

Great deal and excellent music player, BUT I had to remove it from my phone because for some odd reason it gave my network the impression I was tethering my 4G so Three kept shutting off my data.
If anyone know why this is I would be very grateful.

It has some sort of chronic license check issue meaning you need an internet connection to constantly verify it with Google Play, and if not if won't let you play anything offline.
Mr_Mister
17 Nov 15#77
Can anyone explain why it's so great??
Better features? Sound?
I have just tried it and although the it does make the music sound better, it looks very bland.
I like a music player to also have a graphic equilizer so it actually looks good and not just sound good. I can't see any option to turn that on. I know you can get skins but doubt it will add a visual graphic equilizer.
For 10p it's worth it for most people but I think I will give this a miss.

You think it looks bland? I've seen some bland UI's but I wouldn't say this one is...
When you say a graphic equalizer, do you mean spectrum visualization? It has a functioning equalizer, but it's paragraphic.

For me, I switched to it when Android had a problem with it's music DB.
They introduced an update that caused loads of duplicates to appear in the music library. Which is bad enough. Except only the original would play. If it tried to play any of the duplicates (which it invariably did on random play) it stopped with an error.
So I tried other music players. They all used the same built in Android DB for reference.
So I found one that used it's own DB. PowerAmp. Problem solved.
Suspect the DB duplication problem is long since fixed (was at least 5 or 6 years ago) but I've stuck with PowerAmp ever since. Good player. Contrary to above, it works perfectly offline (although won't look up missing album art obviously). Playing a single album/artist/playlist/whatever is a doddle. Controls perfectly from by BT headphones. Steal at 10p. Although, it was also well worth full price.

It has a feature that lists albums sorted by artist instead of purely alphaebtical. Is that what you mean?

IrishOne to Millionvoltage

It has tone controls, a graphic equaliser and stereo widening as well as a pre-amp to boost the volume. It's not the best player in terms of usability, but definitely gives the best sound which is why I wouldn't be without it.

Opening post
The #1 paid music player in the Google Play Store 4 years running—Poweramp is the most powerful music player available on the Android OS. Features like gapless play, an unmatched equalization system, great crossfade, and support for most popular music file format might all make Poweramp the best $3.99 you have ever spent in your life—2+ million users would agree to that.

Voted hot as for 10p this is a definite no-brainer, gutted i paid full price for this a while back (but cant complain too much i used google play credit from google opinion rewards) still hot though
Would it be possible to download the mp3 onto PC from Google Play and then manually copy it to the accessible Music folder on my phone?
I've tried scanning the phone (using File Manager) and I've looked in all the "standard" locations (e.g. storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com/google/android/music/files) but there are absolutely no mp3s there.
Strange thing is, no-one else seems to have had this problem? Is it just me? Or are others having this issue too?
Maybe enable "High Priority"?
I don't know, change some things and hope for the best
Standard app works fine with skipping tracks.
My only reservation with it is it only seems to operate on music tracks (on my tablet anyway) & not on films......although this may be me just being a total numbnuts.
So looks like 'Videos' are viable?, so ..... hehehe.
You may be in need of just tweeking it a wee bit perhaps?. :-)
Hot!
If you have a greenifying app or task killer that kills off the unlocker then yes it will constantly try to re-activate.
Leave the unlocker alone and running - you will not have any problems with PowerAmp.
Purchased after hearing so much about this, wasn't aware there was a trial.
Definitely better sounding than a regular player. Default is set to Mono, not Stereo, under Tone/Vol. Bizarre choice given how much better undoing Mono makes it sound.
The skin is fine, I prefer clean (bland is better than bling) but it is really intended for Album art. Strange there isn't a view to show the next few songs coming up.
What exactly is the point of equ, tone, limit, mono under tone/volume? Clicking on them just underlines them
I can't even work out how to change the app to stereo output
And I still keep getting adverts every few songs
Put simply it can make the most out of your phone's audio capabilities.
Bass sounds like i'm in the room on my HTC M8 stock earphones.
10p!
I mean... I don't.. but... some people... like told me... in a pub..
Also rockbox, neutron and VLC supports opus.
like me lol
Do you honestly think you are going to be spoonfed everyday of your life?
Definitely the best player if you have a local music library though.
Really?
Do you sit and stare at the screen while it plays music or something? Mine is either in my pocket, or on my desk in front of me, with the screen off. Who cares what the UI looks like??? As long as it's functionally sounds of course. Which it is.
Thanks OP
AIMP a free music player does.
Or just use AIMP
I've albums "purchased" (mostly freebies from HUKD) all over the place. Would be nice if I could use something like this to group them together.
Purchased thanks to funds from Google Opinion rewards
I've been using it for about 2 years btw.
In the past, all you could do is cache a bunch of audio on Play and then find the cache files using poweramp... which is a bit crap. It's a shame Google haven't sorted the API access out :/
The advantage to cloud-based services is primarily intelligent playlists and stuff.
Huge heat!
Brilliant for everyone (apart from him)
for 0.10p its acceptable if it works as it should... tried all bunch of different settings, couldn't get rid of the problems mentioned above.
hot though for the price
Worked perfectly the entire time.
Always has.
Get the desktop manager and download your library and transfer the MP3's to your phone.
Solution is to not greenify either app and let it run.
