This is an MSE deal but the cheapest around now if your exiting from talk talk or just finishing contract.

From Wed 4 Nov until Tue 24 Nov, we've blagged this deal for a year's contract with BT-owned Plusnet* which includes line rental and unlimited downloads and up-to-17Mb speed broadband.

It's a strong performer in our customer service poll - 68% rate it 'great', only 9% 'poor'. The deal's available to 90% of the UK based on postcode (you're told when applying), and you can't get it if you're already a Plusnet customer (or left in the last month). Here's how it works...

Sign up From Wed 4 Nov & Mon 24 Nov.

Choose to pay line rent upfront if you can afford to. It's cheapest if you pay the £185.88 year's line rent upfront - if not it's £16.99 monthly. You choose which option during the application.
Broadband's included free during the year's contract. Whether you pay line rent upfront or monthly, the b'band is included. If you stay after the contract it's £9.99-£17.49/mth depending where you live.
You get sent a cheque for £75 cashback within 60 days of activation.

This is the bit we've blagged, so do ensure you use the link above and if you use ad or cookie-blocking software, turn it off or it may not track. The cheque will be in the account holder's name and sent to the supply address. Read more on how to ENSURE you get the cashback.
Factoring in the cashback, that means it's £110.88 for a year (£9.24/mth equiv). That is the £185.88 line rent upfront minus £75 cashback. If you pay the line rent monthly it's £203.88 over the year, so £128.88 after cashback (£10.74/mth equiv).

Don't know if there is ant TCB or quidco as don't use them but they should be seen as a bonus if you can do this via them as well

I might go for this!
I'm approximately half way through my 12m with sky which is okay but have had intermittent internet outages, plus I've just had a letter stating line rental
£1 increase, voicemail 25p and weekend/evening calls going from free to £4pm from December 1st, so I have 30days to leave sky under the new ofcom rules!
Anyone know what's my course of action, do I have to first call sky to give notice or do I just sign up to plus net via ops link and give sky notice that way?

I suppose this is one of those rare cases where factoring in the cashback is actually relevant. heated from me anyway.

Not a great deal really, aside from the fact you're guaranteed cashback,Plusnet are part of the BT group & use traffic shaping, Sky deals with TCB are better £80.80 cashback &£75 M&S voucher

The cheapest sky deal is £193.80 as they charge half price broadband now and thats with the M&S voucher at least this is cash! So this is much cheaper in comparison hence why i posted it and plusnet tend to have quite good customer services. If you don't want it then don't take it

Would like this deal, anyone know if you can get BT Sport Package from Plusnet? Just found out its £5 a month and you need a Sky Dish, they wont allow you to use it with a Freeview box unless you have a Fibre connection. Tried ringing them 30min wait, chat service to busy, If you have an issue its always a long wait I left them 2 months ago, but my rental needs a new connection so will consider deal.

4 Nov 15 #17
I see they are doing an 18 month contract with free unlimited broadband for £16.99 line rental and £3 for eve & w/e calls or £6 for anytime calls.... Plus could do a years line rental in advance to save some as well.
Probably get some Quidco or TCB with that as well.

Seems a good deal for me that.... my TT contract finishes in 10 days.

Just came of Sky service. My current deals ends in few days and was hoping they would let me have the same one again :disappointed:.

Offered me what works out to £18p/m for 12 months.

plusnet=£16.49 p/m or £10.24 inc cashback (includes Caller ID)

I've always got really good customer service with little waiting time with Sky and get around 17Mb on my line

don't want to go cheap and the struggle. Someone mentioned traffic shaping on Plusnet, too.

According to Sky I average around 200Gb per month

having to ring plusnet for the third day in succession and currently at twenty minutes and counting on hold.

still no broadband and now landline doesn't take incoming calls as well.

would ideally back out and go somewhere else but the potential £160 cashback I can get from this will be a massive help

well managed to get them to refund the money I've paid for month 1 and put it on month 2's bill so, fingers crossed, I've wangled the first two months for free

I don't understand why Plusnet get such rave reviews for their customer service.

If you have a problem you have to wait upwards of 30minutes on hold. Yes the staff are friendly, based in England and the call is free - however, the wait times are shocking (and double that if you need to be put back in to the queue to speak to someone in technical).

Here is a graph that shows the current wait times:
http://www.plus.net/supportpages.html?a=212

you can get through quickly if you call between 8am-9am (but you may find that the people who are able to get stuff done for you don't start their shifts until 9am). Slight dip in wait times over lunch (12-2) and then after 6pm (but again the staff you really want to get hold of have gone home by then)

I've been looking for a deal on basic broadband for a friend. If you're not tempted by the PlusNet offer and messing around with cashback, the Post Office are offering the following;

Free Broadband for 12 Months (Although it is an 18 month contract) £8 after 12 Months
£16 Line Rental vs PlusNet £16.99
Unlimited Usage
Free Weekend Calls to UK landlines
Plus £48 a year saving when you pay 12 months line rental up front which works out at £144 for the 1st year.
I know that's slightly more but you're getting weekend calls for £14 for the 1st year. Not too bad.

I've also clicked proceed on both offers and looks like in my case, Post Office also have a promotion for Free New Line Connections (£60) Normally compared to PlusNet wanting 49.99 off me.
I'm tempted at this price. Both after 12 months.
Post Office £24 vs PlusNet £26.97

9 Nov 15 #41
says a lot when their own graph says that the average answer time is 29 minutes.

the man I've just spoken to has claimed that it's because of the time of the year and the increase in faults on the line. Claimed plusnet are aware of the long wait times and are actively recruiting but I'll believe that when I see it.

Re the SKY price increase you dont have to have the £4 a month phone package. I took a Sky deal through Money Saving Expert I only wanted the Broadband and do not have a phone connected so when I was informed about the £4 a month charge I chose Sky Pay As You Talk, which as long as you dont make any calls is FREE.
My last Broadband deal was with Talk Talk and I got a £100 Amazon Voucher, this deal with sky is 8 quid a month line rental No charge for broadband and a £100 credit to the account whcih means I am paying next to nothing for a Years broadband. I just hope something similiar comes by summer 2017. I am not a mean tight fisted git mmm then again ???
michaeljb to SCOUSEKEVIN
9 Nov 15 #45
Im on the same current deal, but was under the impression if you change to the pay as you talk package you'll lose your half price line rental, so you'll save £4 on the calls, but loose another £8 because of the line rental increase, effectively making you £4 worse off a month and technically on a worse package, though thats a moot point if you don't have a phone plugged in. Would love to hear others thoughts on the matter, anyone in the know on this stuff?

I don't think Alexander Graham Bell had been born when I joined PlusNet (I've been with them that long). Last time I tried to talk to them I too was also really irritated by the long wait time on the phone.

So try this; - forget the phone, try the online chat, the forum or even twitter, they seem to respond far quicker.

Apparently, landline phones are for old people and mobiles are for texting.

9 Nov 15 1 #46
personally I would haggle with them, afterall all the power is with you now through sky increasing their prices..look for a better deal using quidco or topcashback and use that as a tool to haggle with sky

they wouldn't budge with me so I moved penalty free of charge elsewhere to plusnet, so either way its win win situation (for me it was £165 cashback £115 topcashback plus £50 from plusnet)

everytime theres an increase in line rental or broadband, play them at their own game and cash in, be it through haggling or moving penalty free and get cashback

I telephoned Sky customer services changed over to Sky pay as you talk, so I will not be paying for calls as I won`t be making any, the deal I made is for half price line rental so the increase of £1 on the line rental in December means I will pay an extra 50p a month. I always record telephone conversations with companys that I take a contract with O2 etc (have to ask permission illegal not to make them aware of it), I also save any web pages if I have signed up online. I have just telephoned Sky to confirm that anyone with a half price line rental deal will still only be paying half of what the new line rental fee will be.

make sure you don't opt to pay the line rental upfront by direct debit - it's an option but isn't actually possible. the order will just sit in limbo then get cancelled. I found out the hard way and lost my number of 27 years, £90 TCB and £75 amazon voucher as I had to place a new order. Plusnet didn't give 2 hoots!
michaeljb
9 Nov 15 #54
The 30day windows to cancel penalty free is now over, would have to pay off the contract to cancel now unfortunately.

Ah am i correct in reading this as you have just taken a new contract with sky i.e you're now on a fresh 12 month contract? as i don't want to extend my current contract. When i phoned up i was told if i change to the free pay as you go plan i would lose any current offers including half price line rental, it also states this on the letter i got telling me about the changes in december. I think maybe you are getting to 'keep the offer' as its actually a new offer (just the same one) on a new contract.

But I can't find a way to do this - it wants to charge me monthly.

I may well be being stupid, but if anyone could tell me what to do I'd be eternally grateful.

Thanks.

Oh, and another thing. Is the router that they will sell you for £6.99 any good, or would I be better off buying an alternative from somewhere else? And if I should go for another, what's cheap and will work? I need wifi, of course.

If I remember correctly earlier this year I briefly signed up to plus net via topcashback, plusnet asked me to get a Mac code from talktalk who I moved from, so I don't know if I would need to do same if I decided to sign up to plus net via ops link this time! I've just been speaking with sky retentions Dept regarding the increased charges letter they sent me the other week, I was informed that I will not incur any early termination fee if I change provider, I asked if this is because of the new implemented ofcom rules but they said it was just inline with sky policy, also as emlin highlighted earlier that the new provider will inform sky of the switch to make it a smooth transition hopefully without any problems! BTW sky couldn't offer me anything like for like or better than plusnet, so I've got about another 20 days out of my 30 days sky informed me I have to cancel and leave them! No rush hopefully a better offer than plusnet may appear soon!

Slightly misleading and confusing info!

Me: If I decided to sign up for a contract for broadband only via your website, I believe that plus net do all the switching from another existing provider, informing them of the switch
Kyle: Hi, we will notify them that we are taking over the service yes. However a lot of suppliers do request their customer contact them themselves, so I would always advise contacting them to confirm that you are moving to a new supplier once we have confirmed the activation date for your services with ourselves.
Me: Okay I asked sky yesterday as I'm part way through a 12m broadband contract but as sky have informed me that from December 1st they are increasing pricing and that I have 30 days to cancel my contract penalty free, and that if I move to another provider that the new provider will inform sky of the switch
Kyle: Ok then, well once we place our order to take over the service then SKY will be notified of this.
: So if plus net take over as my provider, I will still keep using the same landline connection
Kyle: Is it Sky who have the phoneline currently or is it just the broadband you have with them?
: I have free sky phone evening and weekend calls and unlimited broadband
Kyle: Ok if the line is with sky then for us to take the broadband service then we would need to take the phone line as well. As they use a different type of phone line to the BT network so our broadband would not work with their phone line.
: Approximately 6 months ago I had a phone and broadband contract with talk talk and I moved to plus net briefly before going to sky and there wasn't any problems plus net taking over from talktalk on the same phone line that it is currently!
Kyle: So you had phone with talktalk and broadband with us or did you transfer both services to us?
Me: Both with talktalk for over seven years, then plusnet were in the process of taking over but approximately two weeks before plus net took over I decided to go to sky
Kyle: Ok well I know SKY and talktalk use MPF lines, we can't put our broadband on an MPF line. However if we are taking over the phone service as well, then we send an engineer to the exchange to remove the MPF equipment and move the phone line on to the BT network. So if you are just taking broadband with us and trying to leave the phone with SKY then this would not work, if you are taking line rental with us as well then we will arrange for the line to be moved over to the BT network and then our broadband would be able to be applied to the line.
Me: Okay thanks, for clarifying that, I definitely want to keep the current phone line, also if I sign up to plusnet I was going to choose the broadband and also pay for the line rental upfront for 12months!
Kyle: That is not a problem.
Kyle: Can I help with anything else?
Me: So if I paid the line rental for 12 months that way I would be keeping my current phone number/line
Kyle: You can still keep the same number as long as the current supplier allows us to import it.
Kyle: Just make sure you request this when setting up the account.
Me: I take it I would not be charged extra for this?
Me: What reason would sky have not to import the phone line?
Kyle: If the number belongs to them then they can refuse the transfer. If that was the case we would advise you of this and then ask for you to either speak to them to release it or it would be a case of us generating you a new number.
Kyle: It is simple enough. Contact the new supplier and arrange the account, then confirm with the current supplier that you are leaving. We would then place our orders, if you have requested the number to be retained then we will request that number from the current supplier. As long as they authorise the change over then it will change on the date we confirm.
Me: So besides me signing up for a new broadband and paying for line rental upfront for 12 months on-line via plus net website, I have also go to request the retention of my current phone number/line via telephone with plus net and also telephone sky informing them that I want to take my phone number/line with me to plus net?
Kyle: We need to know that you are wanting to keep the number yes, and you do need to notify sky that you are leaving. However if you tell us that you are wanting to keep the number, then we will send that request to SKY. So you don't need to tell them you want to keep the number as we will inform them of that.
Me: Please clarify all this as it's seems a lot of faffing, so can I just do all this via plus net website or have I definitely got to phone sky and plus net?
Kyle: Yes in the sign up process it will ask you if you want to retain the number and then just complete the sign up process. Then you just need to speak to sky and confirm you are leaving and that is it.
Me: Please also clarify will plus net be charging me any additional costs for bringing my current phone number/line to plus net from sky and any other charges for moving from sky to plus net?
Kyle: No we don't charge for transferring the number or for moving from sky.
Me: Okay I'm starting to feel reassured now, as it seems to be a bit of a uncertainty regarding the exporting of my phone number
Me: So do I need to phone sky before I sign up to plus net online or phone sky after to inform them I'm leaving?
Kyle: No you can phone them after that is not a problem.

From my chat with SKY last week...I understood that (and I'm out of contract now) I would not need to let SKY know that I'm leaving if I was going to another ADSL provider. SKY would ring me once they have received notice from new provider to confirm that I have requested the move. The advisor said there were no MAC codes or anything involved it was behind the scene move.

Phoned plusnet a earlier this week i said that it's now been more than 60days since my sign up date, put on hold for 10minutes then gave me some guff about it's from the going live date, call back then!
Very next day received my cheque dated 14 Jan, it was 16 Jan when I phoned, so don't let them fob you off, it is the sign up and not the going live date the 60days start from!
