"64GB ROM" makes no sense. ROM is read only memory. They probably mean flash storage. It makes me uneasy when sellers can't post specs accurately.

Be wary of this item.
The Intel Z8300 does NOT support 4gb RAM. So I suspect the specifications are incorrect.
Pipo would have to fit the Z8500 or Z8700 CPU to support over 2gb RAM.

Have got a Pipo M9 Pro tablet which I bought in Hong Kong a couple of years back and a Pipo X7 Windows 8.1 PC which sits under my telly and have never had a problem with either. So this looks like a decent deal to me.

Website description. When the link is viewed in desktop mode "Note: The keyboard in the picture is not included in the package"
When viewed as a mobile webpage "contains free keyboard"
Still a hot price if it ever arrives and customs don't sting you and just hope it never breaks down.

Sorry, I cancelled my order and got refunded when they still hadn't shipped it on the 10th of December. Was supposed to be the 16th of November, I think. They never answered my message about what was taking them either.

my gf has a cube i7 stylus. no complain at all! (however it has ssd instead of emmc) and as far as I know pipo is in the business for ages and making one of the best budget tablets!

OK so it seems like there are some doubts about this. Namely, we're not sure if it really has 4GB RAM and also that the EMMC might be too slow despite the spec looking otherwise pretty good for the price?
I'm curious about the android functionality. How does it usually work with these Chinese tablets? Is it already set up to be able to dual boot or what? What kind of effort is needed to get a Windows/Android dual boot set up?

3 Nov 151#34
Not sure than anyone other than the big players are going to spring for the best EMMC - so would expect most tablets at this pricebreak to be similar - no way of knowing until someone does a strip down review - again unlikely at this pricebreak.
Wouldnt be looking for real performance on these tablets - but moving up to a version supporting 4GB ram is going to have far more impact in real life than the speed of the EMMC
reddit
3 Nov 15#33
For the specs it looks good on paper but I'd like to know more about the storage speed and they may have gone for the cheapest and slowest EMMC, which could make it operate far slower than expected.
Would not buy from Gearbest myself as 3 out of 3 orders have had issues and their support totally sucks, so you may be buying something that give you more grief than it's worth.

I'm assuming that's the standard write up, and the keyboard does not come with it normally. From what I can gather you get the keyboard as a pre order bonus.

Agree with above comments on support.
However have been looking at getting a W10 tablet and for a similar price you can get the Teclast X98 9.7" which comes with either the z8300 slightly less or z8500 processors and a higher resolution screen (albeit very slightly smaller) and is slightly lighter & slimmer.
Its available now & the Air version (3xxx series processor) has a couple of reviews on the web and even avaliable (not at same price) on Amazon UK
As said not yet decided so will be watching this thread so see the pros/cons, other alternatives & customs tips

OK I couldn't resist this deal so I've ordered it. I've taken screenshots of the mobile site saying the keyboard is free so I can complain when it inevitably doesn't come

Doh, voted hot before I realised it was gearbest.
I'm sure people have found them fine, just like people have managed to have unprotected sex without catching nob rot, and thousands of people manage to go to iraq and syria without being blown up. Doesn't mean you should though.

I've read quite a lot of negative stuff about Gearbest yet they have thousands of positive reviews on Trustpilot. Would it be fair to say they deliver the goods fine but not that great with aftercare support if required?

They're like Banggood and let's face it, most people only speak up to complain, not to compliment (old adage of if you have a good experience you'll tell 5 people but a bad one and you'll tell 10). Gearbest is probably as good as Banggood for sales and aftersales.

Intel will have to if ARM starts supporting it out the box on their SoCs.

I'm not so sure about this - different markets. It keeps products segmented and thus people that want SATA/PCIe buying the more expensive Core/M products.
Top-end Core based laptops have already moved to PCIe SSDs - like Lenovo's Carbon X1 3rd gen (have one here), Dell's latest XPS 2015 series, etc - but those are top-end products like iPhone. And the SSDs (AHCI or NVMe) are expensive. Also Intel Core NUCs also support PCIe SSDs.
Atom is a low-end product and I doubt anyone will be "wasting" a PCIe SSD on them. Even Surface 3 using X7 Atom is using eMMC. The new Atom NUCs also don't support PCIe SSD either.
And Intel does specify/force OEMs to follow its rules - you cannot just build what you want. There are only certain things you can do.
ollie87
3 Nov 151#18
Okay. My point still stands though that most devices use a eMMC storage device at the moment but will be moving to a NVMe attached desktop-style SSD in the rear future.

It's not a bus it is a spec, the bus is PCIe as you say. That article mixes things up a bit - check out the org that defines it itself:
"The NVM Express specification defines an optimized register interface, command set and feature set for PCI Express (PCIe®)-based Solid-State Drives (SSDs). "
Like AHCI is the programming interface and SATA is the bus.

3 Nov 151#16
It's a bus, using PCI Express. The current interfaces that have more in common with SD cards. The move over to a faster bus allows for desktop-class SSDs.

Pipo are not an unknown company, but yes if you are buying from China you take the risk that returns are almost a waste of time.
64GB ROM - yes its wrong - they actually mean flash storage. But all phone and tablet makers are using this method for displaying the amount of RAM and the amount of storage ( calling it ROM ).
Anyone going for this , be aware that release dates almost always slip for Chinese devices, so you are unlikely to receive this before Christmas. In fact it would not surprise me if they don't even get despatched this side of Christmas !

Excellent spec for this price. Only let down is the 64gb space, which I suppose is the only compromise, but hey the price. Add on a 128gb sd card and should be OK.
