4 year lease with 6k allowance per year, I know not a huge allowance but the low repayments and low deposit will appeal to many a family looking for a cheap shopping runabout

Is that something you're prepared to do while on the move, possibly at 70mph, squinting through a misty windscreen until you decide it is so misty that you have to start rubbing with a cloth? Hopefully we won't meet on the road.

In the middle of winter when warm moist breath hits the inside of an ice cold windscreen, aircon will be constantly drying out the air inside the cabin to stop the condensation and clear what is already there. Prevention (aircon) is better than the cure (wiping that condensation away and hoping it won't smear the inside of your windscreen).

Is the lack of need to rub the inside of the windscreen since the introduction of A/C really why Americans are getting fatter? You must have to rub the inside of your windscreen a lot if it will burn an appreciable quantity of calories.

For me A/C is far more useful in the Winter than the Summer, there aren't many new cars out there now that don't have it as standard, and a small car's windscreen will usually mist up quicker than a big car's windscreen as that small car will have a smaller volume inside it and usually less space between your hot wet mouth and that cold windscreen (in the Winter).

What is the point of AC in in the UK?
The windows serve the same purpose here......AC is of little use in the UK & in my opinion is just a waste of money & people always set it to ice cold in buildings & cars then complain when its winter outside.

7 Nov 15 3 #22
This 'deal' is just plain daft, it's not even a lease deal, it's PCP.

Another £500 gets a 65 plate pre reg with 15 miles on the clock to do as many miles in as you like and not hand it back. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201510037472795

Or if you don't need the rear doors and fancy something a little less boxy, a Punto brand new is £7k

69 hp  I wouldn't be bothered about a slow car in general use but it can be quite dangerous when you need a burst of speed to avoid collisions etc. Had a lot more near misses in my Corsa than my Ibiza FR. Good deal but as others have said these can be bought new or almost new for much more IF you have the cash to do so.

Personal experience or just afraid mo king because a fiat is beneath you? I have 'executive' class car, and a fiat, fiat from new (had car car for just over 7 years) and has cost far less in repairs than the 'premium' car I have, well considerably less mileage!
thekanester
7 Nov 15 1 #29
This seems like a cheap way to get a new car, especially for those that don't have any savings for a new one. You'd only need to save just over £40 a month extra to pay off the lump sum at the end.
karlie88
7 Nov 15 #30
With your PCP deal it works out at £4852 over 48 months and 24k miles (£199 customer deposit and 47 monthly payments of £99).

With this PCH deal it works out at £4668.50 over 48 months with 40k miles.
shaney2k
7 Nov 15 1 #33
The miles per year doesn't matter if you intend on buying the car after the four years.
oddballjamie to shaney2k
7 Nov 15 #38
Then you may as well buy it at the beginning (Pre-Reg £6500) and spread the cost on an interest free credit card or low interest loan.
Spud211
7 Nov 15 1 #34
There is a huge difference between a PCP and a lease. With a lease you have a fixed deposit, and a fixed term with zero flexibility. At the end you have to hand it back or buy it at an inflated cost, no other options.

With a PCP you can flex your deposit as much as you want, and can sell/pay off the car at any point in the contract. At the end of the deal you don't "hand it back" - the dealership or finance company buys the car back from you at the guaranteed value (i.e. the remaining finance cost), or the market value - whichever is the greater. In the vast majority of PCP deals this means you have a small amount of equity in the car at the end of the deal to either take as cash, or more commonly to put into your next PCP.

Leases tend to be a tiny bit cheaper per month than a PCP (similar overall costs though) but personally I really don't like them - if you lose your job or can't afford the car, you are stuffed. with a PCP you have a get out, and flexibility at the end.

This is a good deal either way and you can probably up the spec without changing your payments after some negotiation with a dealer (another difference i guess - thats not normally possible on a lease).
oddballjamie
7 Nov 15 #35
Difference has been explained above, so I will answer the other question.
£273 deposit and 35 months of £91 for a higher spec Panda on a lease.
http://www.whatcar.com/car-leasing/enquiry.php?deal_id=591330&price_id=4852588
That was the results of 20 seconds on Google, given more time and effort they'd be more to save.

Your point about finance is a bit silly on a site like this. The UK BOE rate is historically low, with loans about at under 4% and record lengths on interest free credit cards, it's not a large amount of money needed to fund it and saves in the long run and you will actually own the car and do as many or few miles as you like.
oddballjamie
7 Nov 15 #36
Depends who you ask, traditionally PCH is a lease and PCP is HP with a deferred balloon payment.
oddballjamie
7 Nov 15 2 #37

SteadVex
7 Nov 15 #39
If its a waste in your opinion don't buy it, most people's opinion is that it is worth it, personally I wouldn't buy a car without climate control, assuming I can afford it financially, some people don't like the noise of having the windows open, and having to breath in the vehicles emissions all around us when in traffic, modern cars filter the air, generally a car with air con has cleaner air inside the cabin, again, all pointless to yourself but many others will like it.
geordie lee
7 Nov 15 #40
Are you on drugs of some kind???? The "dealership or finance company" does not "buys the car back from you at the guaranteed value (i.e. The remaining finance cost)".
You really shouldn't give out advise like this if you don't know 100% what you're talking about!
The dealership would only buy it or pay off the final balance if you're trading it in with them, or if they wanted to by it!
I sell cars for a living and some of the **** advice that is on here is horrendous!
Don't get me wrong some is very good too!
But you sir are an ****!

Spud211
7 Nov 15 #42
I can only speak from my experience and my contracts..the finance company does buy it back from you at the gfv - that is a fact. It is equivalent to handing it back I guess (semantics...).

Dealerships will do so as.well but they don't have to, and normally will do if you are trading in.

There is no need for such anger and abuse over a tiny point - my comment was correct, particular in the case where the dealership and finance company is one and the same entity, which can be the case for independents.
geordie lee to Spud211
7 Nov 15 #47
Once again your lack of knowledge is staggering!

The finance companies do not buy it back from you. As you never own it. At the point of the GFV you can hand it back to the people that do own the vehicle (have a financial interest in it) It's just like a Hire Purchase agreement where you have to pay the option to purchase fee, or you never own it!
The dealership will buy it from you and pay off the GFV if you buy a new car from them.
Finally the dealership and the finance companies are not "one and the same". No dealership, especially independents finance cars themselves. They all use finance companies, etc Hyundai use Santander, Peugeot / Citreon use PSA etc
monkeyhanger75 to Spud211
8 Nov 15 #54
You are wrong, The GFV is what you owe at the end of the PCP to make the car yours. They don't buy it back from you, the car is never yours in ownership until you've paid the full amount off.

There's usually a bit of "equity" between what you owe to make it yours (the GFV figure) and what they would offer you in p/x to hook you into another car. Try taking this Panda to a dealership other than a Fiat one (unless the dealership in question is a multi-marque one of which Fiat is one of the marques sold or your GFV is way lower than actual value) and it'll be worth nowt to them in terms of your "equity".

The GFV is always low enough for the a dealership to think it is a good proposition to buy it back from the finance company (who have owned it from day 1) at that price and still make a tidy profit on it should you not be inclined to go for another and simply hand it back.

Its a total waste of time in the UK & creates more emissions by using more fuel.
jacksonliam
7 Nov 15 3 #49
I strongly disagree. It's very useful, also demists the windscreen and dehumidifies. Makes the cabin much more comfortable, not just for when it's too hot to open the window. And in a modern car opening the window is less fuel efficient than using AC to maintain a comfortable temperature due to drag.
Personally I wouldn't have another car without climate control, no more too hot too cold messing with the controls, and no more smell of poo as you drive through the countryside thanks to air circulation.
I also feel the same about rain sensors and cruise control.

While he got the wording a little wrong you really overreacted and have jumped to personal insults rather than just correcting. Don't do that. Make HUKD a nice place.

He was right about the flexibility of a PCP over a lease and that you have the option to buy with the balloon payment and can often bargain for the use of any equity over the GFV towards a new car.

tis a shame, as people get very aggressive around car deals, I'm not sure if its to justify their own buying habits or just to rain on anyone who's in the financial position to be able to consider a new car?

You need to re-read the highway code & follow it's orders before you move off in you're car.
Was it you I watched a video of on the M4 driving with a tiny gap to see through released by the Police to show how many drivers have no understanding of the highway code & driving with clear & clean windows ensuring the are so before they leave the roadside?

monkeyhanger75 to SixtyFive

The aircon can have your windscreen clear in seconds if the windscreen is misty on the inside and keep it that way the whole journey - you can have it clear before you move off.

On the other hand, you could give the inside of your windscreen a wipe before you set off, but on a cold winters day it is likely to mist up again early on in the journey, causing you to pull over for (1) another wipe, (2) squint through the condensation, or (3) wipe while on the move.

Luckily you know your Highway code and will undoubtedly choose option 1, stopping at a safe place to wipe your windscreen.
SixtyFive
9 Nov 15 #58
It will never mist up with the demister on.
Thats why its called a demister.
monkeyhanger75
9 Nov 15 1 #59
Demisters don't work as well as aircon - usually you have to be blowing a hurricane at your screen to clear it before the engine has properly warmed up and can have a decent stab at warming all the air in the cabin. It doesn't dry the air out like aircon does, and depending on whether your car has a pre-heater or not (i'm guessing not if it doesn't have aircon), the car could take a lot longer to warm up when you're diverting the heat that the engine is generating while trying to warm up into heating the air you're blasting onto the windscreen. Seconds to clear with aircon (without the hurricane), minutes to clear with a demister.

They call it a demister as it's the best chance a car of very limited equipment has of keeping the windscreen clear of mist without aircon.
SixtyFive
10 Nov 15 #60
What utter nonsense.
A demister works on any modern car perfectly well as does mine.
Air-CON is a form of status symbol like alloy wheels or a gti badge.
Its like old bald men driving open top mercs for the poor.
antonywhite37
10 Nov 15 #61
lol at this argument although totally agree with this comment. demister/blowers are useless when the weather is very damp and you are trying clear your windscreen air conditioning is good at clearing fast but I find you become reliant on it after using it because the screen steams up twice as fast when you turn it off due to the temperature differential with the outside world. when they are not broken fords front heated screens are probably the best option available
