Why are people cancelling their orders? STOP! Either Ocado will cancel everyone's which I find hard to believe because the order was only available for new customers so in cancelling all those new customers will never shop there again resulting in more loss. Or honour the orders and change the voucher code which they have done. if they turn up for delivery with an added £20 refuse delivery? Simples! I believe they will be honoured!

With the original order many managed to use together with the £20 off £40 another voucher £5 off (VOU0741198 for opting into marketing) your next order. Had you reordered the same day it was stacking up with the new £20 off £60 spent but I left it till next day and the £5 off was flashing up as expired on 11th. That's the reason why if you call or email them they will issue you a new £25 off. Just to mention that the customer service guy I spoke to (not Danny :neutral_face:) wasn't very forthcoming, his initial suggestion was to issue me with another £5 that wouldn't stack up and had to be used on my second order, but a friendly nudge in the right direction was all that was needed :smile:

To my surprise an hour later I got a quidco email stating that they've tracked today's order! WOW. I placed my order on Wednesday at 1.30pm. Expected my order to be cancelled. Here I am getting ready to go to Tesco. Knock knock on my door, its only the Ocado driver with all my shopping, with the £25 deducted. My £80.51 shopping ending up only costing me £41.61. The shopping came with 9 carrier bags which I gave back to the driver for a refund. Very happy. Maybe mine did not get cancelled, because when some were being cancelled, I spoke to a nice man called Danny on the chatline on the website and asked him not to cancel it.

2000? Is that it? 2000x£20 (the difference between the 40 minimum spend and the 60 minimum spend) = £40k.
Now of course the extra £20 sold would be including profit so lets say the cost to them lost in goods is about £15 so get that down to £30k roughly.
So they may have lost £30k (probably less seen as they wouldn't have had hardly any orders at all without the mistake).
That seems like a small sum of money for such a large company to worry about considering the bad press, reviews and hassle. I bet that is a fraction of their annual advertising budget and cancelling these orders just does the opposite of what their advertising and customer service intend to do.
A bonkers business decision if you ask me.

i can't imagine anyone will get a straight answer from ocado though, it'll most likely be a pre-prepared statement regarding the glitch and a cop-out excuse along the lines of "we don't know" why some got orders and some didn't.

My shopping has just been delivered so am very happy - first time shopping with them. I also placed another order using my parents email and delivery address for drink which came to £17 (£42 minus £25 in vouchers) and this is on its way to be delivered any time so I don't understand why some have got them and some haven't. One order was placed Tuesday evening the other yesterday lunch time.

Cheers OP. Just got one of my orders (which was the main one) while two others got cancelled.
I think I've figured out though why some orders are being honoured and some aren;t.
In your "My Account" section on the Ocado website, when you view your order you can download your receipt in PDF format. If you open up the PDF file, you'll see "Cost of Goods". On the order that got honoured it was £84.29 which is OVER the £80 spend required to use both the £20 and £5 discounts.
My other two orders were both less than £80 and they got cancelled. The way Ocado breaks it down makes me think that only orders which had a total cost of goods of more than £80 (so if you bought loads of products on offer it would calculate it's original value before the offer discount) were the ones that were honoured.

Got my order this morning, £20 off £40 spent +£5 for signing up + £6 Topcashback. My order consist of , ten Rightguard deodorants,which were buy 1 get 1 free, Persil non bio laundry powder, reduced form £11 to £6, Youngs battered fish reduced from £4 to £2 etc. I gave back the carrier bags, delivery guy said if I had any other carrier bags from other shops Ocado also gives 5p per bag.

Mine arrived, one bottle of cider broke in the van so he's going to knock that off. Very polite and helpful driver (Ian, delivered in Stafford just in case anyone from Ocado is reading!), can't complain at all. Bottles are even nicely chilled, not sure if its just because they've been in the van overnight though!

Mine arrived this morning. Think I've worked out why mine went through. It doesn't take any offers off the bill until last so bill came to £63 before offers, so over the new £60 limit . It then took £20 off, the £5 off which were both the vouchers then just over £8 was taken off for the offers so cost me just over £28 for £63 worth of shopping. No charge been made yet on PayPal, not even showing as pending :-/

In a further twist, the downloadable receipt now shows £21.63 - earlier/yesterday it showed £41.63.

Mine just came, partner took the delivery. Driver showed up with a bill for £93.
She called me and eventually turned out that it was the wrong bill, showed him the email receipt (£21.63 with bags) as he didn't have a copy. Apparently he has said he will take £6.75 off of that price (for being a new customer), which would be ridiculous.
Not sure what the final price would be (part of me suspects he has taken £6.75 off of the higher price [£46], another part of me isn't even sure he has the ability to apply a discount but hey ho), but will be making an angry call if anymore than £21.63.
When are people being charged? No trace of the payment on paypal, and as far as I can tell nothing from my bank yet.

am sure it's probably more as they had cancelled that amount when I called, but I get your point. Their loss is no more than £100k. They can easily make this up in the long term but some greedy fatcat panicked.
You can't trust a company that cannot be honest with their customers. Feel sorry for the customer service staff and the potential loss of staff when the they make a long term loss as a result of today.

well mine arrived ta op!! very pleased 6 bottles of merlot, good sausages, cheese, 2 lots ground coffee,tins chickpeas and toms, bencol for friend, innocent juice, bread, ibuprofen, rose petals, plenty kichen rolls £22. plus they threw in a free magnetic meal planner with pen and the ocado mag!! also very well packed in seperate big bags (cost 5p but can be sent back next time for refund) and alovely receipt with use by dates of under a week eg bread, oover a week eg coffee and others! all in all a good experience! good luck all!

I ordered last night. First time order, 41 pounds for 21. Received an email this afternoon saying this offer code is incorrect and the offer is in fact to spend 60 pounds to get 20 pounds. I wasted time on this offer and feel annoyed because I think they should honour it.
if it was a ploy to try and get customers, they've lost one potential new one here and I expect a LOT more too.

I have no idea but they are for delivery on 01/12 as are Xmas gifts so maybe no rush to cancel mine and they will get cancelled after the ones due for delivery sooner.

Yes the £5 off voucher is saved in your account. Hubby is going mad but I still think it is a good deal as we have MIL coming for dinner so wanted to buy some nice stuff plus my Aussie treats. We have recently got rid of our car so it is the best free delivery option available regardless for us. Put some stamps in as well which at 33% off are a bargain! Still happy with the deal & can still do another shop on the other account I set up in my name after this one arrives lol :wink::smile:

Wouldn't put it past the web team to come up with a partial solution, cancel orders on accounts when logged on if discount was applied - this would also inform the customer.
I just checked my order after reading this and of course it's been cancelled. I can appreciate errors occuring but no contact regarding a cancellation, even just an automated email, isn't exactly good service.
Not only that but if I did want to reorder, most of the prices and offers have changed so a new voucher is pretty useless imo.

BUT I am sick and tired of big corporations lulling in customers using sly underhand tactics like this one. I;'d never have wasted my time to set up an account if it weren't for the offer.
Their official response is that this was an error and it should have been £80. This is not only dishonest as they are covering their back by not giving the real reason. Apparently they will give vouchers to everyone who had their order cancelled of £20 off for a £60 spend.

What a joke. This is clearly their plan to generate publicity and get people to sign up with an account.
I advise everyone to contact Trading Standards if your order has been cancelled.
And how many posters do you have to compare with? Ah yes. Zero.
Even if you elect to discount the previous poster, the point remains the same. They amended the terms of the voucher and when grocery shopping the price you pay is calculated at the time of picking, not at the time of checkout.
So the terms of the voucher when it is attempted to be applied is what will happen, and, as it now has a minimum spend of £80 it won't apply.
I mean I have left my order pending for tomorrow and I will await with hope that turns up discounted, but I have zero confidence that it will. The only way it will is if Ocado identify orders and associate a new discount against them with the original terms. Given they have yet to notify anyone I don't expect that to happen.
And that's one of the reasons why I've left the order. To waste their time and cost them money picking it, sending out a driver and then having him return with all my goods and then returning it to the warehouse, because they've not handled this how they should have done.

Regarding voucher withdrawl, the terms state:
"Ocado reserves the right to withdraw or terminate any of its Vouchers at any time, either as a whole or for specific delivery areas. If this happens, then the Vouchers may not be used for any orders placed after the date of withdrawal or termination. Ocado reserves the right to reject the use of a Voucher where fraud is suspected."
So they voucher value cannot be amended after they have been used on an order.
The general terms about errors: "the price of such goods will be as quoted on the website at the time you confirm your order (usually by clicking the "checkout" button) subject only to any inadvertent technical error for which we will not be liable"
The question is whether the £20 off £40 was a technical error, or them changing their minds, and is a voucher error (a basket discount) even included in that clause, since it's not a goods pricing error at all..

If you've paid by Visa and have the order confirmation showing the £20 voucher credit, that should be sufficient to instigate a chargeback against Ocado if they try it on. Accept the delivery, roll the dice and go for it!

If you are a legit first time customer who applied the discount you are entitled to before Ocado adapted the order price then I am 100% sure you will get it at the agreed price.
If you ordered too late then so be it.
If you conned Ocado out of £20 then fair play to them if they catch you out.

I'm annoyed because I was enticed in by an offer and spent half an hour filling up the basket only to find upon check out that they'd removed the voucher. Made worse because when I queried it with them they denied its existence and basically called me a liar. But yes, you win some you lose some.

The issue here is this is grocery shopping.
With grocery shopping your order isn't calculated until it is picked, and that is when discounts are applied.
Between ordering Ocado has adjusted the voucher, meaning your order no longer qualifies for the discount. So when the discount is attempted to be made it no longer applies.
Thus, you will get just £5 off.
If they just expired the voucher earlier than they'd planned to then yes, I would agree there would be a possibility of it being honoured. But they didn't, they adjusted the same voucher in their database to have different criteria.
The reason your total price stays the same is because that's an estimate calculated at checkout. But again, discounts are not applied until picking.
This is now backed up by a poster a moment ago whose order arrived sans discount.

First deal I've taken part in. Didn't work out
Delivery just arrived. No £20 voucher, only the valid £5 one. I asked the driver and he hadn't a clue. Suggested I contact customer service about it.
Asked if he'd wait while I did that, and after 10 mins waiting with Ocado on the phone he told me I had to either accept it or he had to go as he had other deliveries. I told him I wouldn't be accepting it (he was fine with it. Just drove off)
Finally got through to someone (20 mins), and they told me the voucher was a glitch and couldn't honor it and that correspondence would be going out but some peoples orders were arriving too soon for them to let them know first.
Got offered another £5 voucher for use another time if I wanted it...

Right.... I've just changed delivery from friday to tomorrow and the £20 discount was removed, only the £5 discount remained!!
Spoke to customer servies, they asked for the voucher code and they said that's showing up as minimum £80 spend. I gave them the price from the original confirmation email and he generated a new voucher code and applied it to the order

I still recommend not changing delivery dates, don't give them a reason to update their records.
Also people need to relax, checking account information, times when you can cancel is useless - all that matters is their paperwork is the same same as the one emailed to you, which it more than likely will.
We know that peoples totals have not changed, just leave well alone and check back in tomorrow.

I fail to see how greediness even comes into this. This was a code for new customers, not easy to fool, it was used to entice people to sign up as new members and then the terms of the offer were changed during the process of ordering. That is really bad customer relations.
I have spent several thousand pounds in John Lewis over the last few years and I won't be spending any more money there although I'll make sure I get a free coffee everyday for the next few years as I work nearby.
It particularly annoys me that Ocado are in some cases trying to deny the offer existed.

If orders aren't cancelled by Ocado then my prediction is that when the items are delivered tomorrow you will be charged the extra £20. That's down to the fact that the code has been amended and that we no longer fulfill the minimum £80 spend.
Whether Ocado are/are not allowed to charge us the extra £20 is another matter. I'm sure that within their own T&Cs if a voucher's condition is amended then they can do such a thing.
Hope I'm wrong and of course I would be happy if everyone had their orders fulfilled at the estimated price. But from past Ocado/Waitrose offers like this I think there will be a lot of disgruntled customers tomorrow.

Changing an agreed invoice price on delivery however without the customers consent or acknowledgement is a whole other situation. They have all the orders who used that voucher code, we are either all getting cancellation emails or they going through.
They are not however going to turn up with a different invoice to the one you got, or you sign at the price agreed and then they secretly take out £20 more.

Seems like it was done to prevent further spending, and the reason you can't see the voucher added is because it's now 'glitched' as you should not be able to see it.

If your order hasn't been picked yet, the only authorisation on your card currently will be for £1 (which will drop off your account after a few days).

Absolutely, I've gone to Tesco click and collect and they replaced a ton of my items.
Got a refund for all items I didn't want and took the ones I did, if they charge you more on the invoice when delivered (higly unlikely) you can simply refuse as you haven't agreed a price. They are absolutely more likely to take the hit however then secretly bump the price up, obviously don't change your date and time however as that means they can also adjust their price, as others have found out.

Or is that because it only goes through on the day your order is picked? Definitely think it's worth keeping an eye on your order! According to the faq regarding cancelling:

1) the £5 flash code will not work as the site recognizes its already been used at that address
2) To use the £20 voucher you will need to change your last name slightly, IE add another letter at the end of your surname, then the £20 voucher should work

Just a comment for anyone else thats in the Morrisons delivery area, if you do your shop with them on the flash sale rubbish at the end add everything to the basket, then go back to the front page and checkout again you will see a bunch of new flash sale items. Just keep doing it about five or six times and you will see everything they flash sale, then when you are finally ready to checkout remove all the rubbish you didn't want. Don't remove it first because it will show you that stuff again.

I couldn't get the £5 voucher to work at first but then followed the instructions in the thread. Switch to desktop view if on mobile phone.
Go to account settings, marketing preference. Opt out. Save settings. Then click home. The £5 message is on the right hand side. You have to click the link in that message for the voucher to be activated on your account. Opt in, then save settings.

My very first order from Ocado was a couple of days ago when I purchased the Coke / Rugby Ball so unfortunately I did not qualify as a new customer. To take advantage of this offer, i then decided to create a new account with my husbands name, a different email and a different phone number. To my surprise, this didn't work either as they had some of my details. At this point, here's me thinking it must be the address. So I created another account, with a different email and a different address (work address) and voila, it worked. So it seems you can only have 1 account for offers (or everything) at the same address. Also, this time around I used Quidco as I'd already used TCB with my order a couple of days ago. By the way, it took about 10 attempts for the £5 code to appear so like others spent £15 on a £40 shop with possible £6 Quidco. Hopefully I am making sense here.

If you go into orders it lets you edit your basket. I think you can add another code there when you checkout again. I had to edit my basket as bought the wrong wine and it was very easy to do.

I was going to withdraw it the other day but I had to wait 72hrs after changing my outdated payment details, logged in today to find it was now £0
but I had my order cancelled :confused:

I did use the second voucher and that has tracked as well
only £1.25 in carrier bag refund despite 80 odd returned plus the 3p checkoutsmart :laughing:
makes £33.33 for £60.25 of shopping at the moment
that means the £40 worth of stuff i got for £15 has now been reduced further to £8.94 :wink:

Got the expected BS and they tried to shill the other voucher again but I said no.
Not all for me, 1 order for me and 1 each for my other flat mates.
They've cancelled 2000 orders... LOL. What a big muck up for Ocado.
Now of course the extra £20 sold would be including profit so lets say the cost to them lost in goods is about £15 so get that down to £30k roughly.
So they may have lost £30k (probably less seen as they wouldn't have had hardly any orders at all without the mistake).
That seems like a small sum of money for such a large company to worry about considering the bad press, reviews and hassle. I bet that is a fraction of their annual advertising budget and cancelling these orders just does the opposite of what their advertising and customer service intend to do.
A bonkers business decision if you ask me.

It's been an emotional rollercoaster.
Lovely driver, got the right discounts, and quickly sorted.
Only downside is the ridiculous packing, using more carrier bags than needed. Some bottles came in a box with a handle but still came in a carrier bags.

Cost of items full price £70.** Once instore promotions applied bill reduced to £41.** Then codes kicked in so paid £17.**
Driver confirmed price total charged to me.

I'm guessing you can thank the people who made Ocado aware on social media or contacted their customer services for your order being cancelled.
I think I've figured out though why some orders are being honoured and some aren;t.
In your "My Account" section on the Ocado website, when you view your order you can download your receipt in PDF format. If you open up the PDF file, you'll see "Cost of Goods". On the order that got honoured it was £84.29 which is OVER the £80 spend required to use both the £20 and £5 discounts.
My other two orders were both less than £80 and they got cancelled. The way Ocado breaks it down makes me think that only orders which had a total cost of goods of more than £80 (so if you bought loads of products on offer it would calculate it's original value before the offer discount) were the ones that were honoured.

However my order shows up on Ocado as £41.63.
In a further twist, the downloadable receipt now shows £21.63 - earlier/yesterday it showed £41.63.
Looking good for now, but keeping a close eye on my paypal.
She called me and eventually turned out that it was the wrong bill, showed him the email receipt (£21.63 with bags) as he didn't have a copy. Apparently he has said he will take £6.75 off of that price (for being a new customer), which would be ridiculous.
Not sure what the final price would be (part of me suspects he has taken £6.75 off of the higher price [£46], another part of me isn't even sure he has the ability to apply a discount but hey ho), but will be making an angry call if anymore than £21.63.
When are people being charged? No trace of the payment on paypal, and as far as I can tell nothing from my bank yet.
The voucher was removed from the site BUT on the receipt from the drive the £20 voucher is still discounted as well as the £5 voucher so all worked well :smiley:

If you view your canceled orders and reorder, it still applies the £5 marketing code and the £20 of £60 code emailed still stacks with it. The cheapest item I could find to get over £60 was a 25p pot of Peppa Pig Jelly.
You can't trust a company that cannot be honest with their customers. Feel sorry for the customer service staff and the potential loss of staff when the they make a long term loss as a result of today.
Again, £20 off £60 really isn't that bad. Just chuck a bottle of something nice for Xmas on there, and it's all good.

Worth a try! And It's letting me use the £5 discount too. So if this isn't cancelled the total will be £15 for £45 spend

BUT I am sick and tired of big corporations lulling in customers using sly underhand tactics like this one. I;'d never have wasted my time to set up an account if it weren't for the offer.
Their official response is that this was an error and it should have been £80. This is not only dishonest as they are covering their back by not giving the real reason. Apparently they will give vouchers to everyone who had their order cancelled of £20 off for a £60 spend.
In my opinion they can go and do one.
Deffo not ordering from them ever! That would have cost them cheaper then the stupid advertisements on TV.
I advise everyone to ignore that. Why not phone an old friend you've not spoken to for a while, instead? Maybe read a book, or donate some money to charity?

Even if you elect to discount the previous poster, the point remains the same. They amended the terms of the voucher and when grocery shopping the price you pay is calculated at the time of picking, not at the time of checkout.
So the terms of the voucher when it is attempted to be applied is what will happen, and, as it now has a minimum spend of £80 it won't apply.
I mean I have left my order pending for tomorrow and I will await with hope that turns up discounted, but I have zero confidence that it will. The only way it will is if Ocado identify orders and associate a new discount against them with the original terms. Given they have yet to notify anyone I don't expect that to happen.
And that's one of the reasons why I've left the order. To waste their time and cost them money picking it, sending out a driver and then having him return with all my goods and then returning it to the warehouse, because they've not handled this how they should have done.

So they voucher value cannot be amended after they have been used on an order.
The general terms about errors: "the price of such goods will be as quoted on the website at the time you confirm your order (usually by clicking the "checkout" button) subject only to any inadvertent technical error for which we will not be liable"
The question is whether the £20 off £40 was a technical error, or them changing their minds, and is a voucher error (a basket discount) even included in that clause, since it's not a goods pricing error at all..

If you are a legit first time customer who applied the discount you are entitled to before Ocado adapted the order price then I am 100% sure you will get it at the agreed price.
If you ordered too late then so be it.
If you conned Ocado out of £20 then fair play to them if they catch you out.
With grocery shopping your order isn't calculated until it is picked, and that is when discounts are applied.
Between ordering Ocado has adjusted the voucher, meaning your order no longer qualifies for the discount. So when the discount is attempted to be made it no longer applies.
Thus, you will get just £5 off.
If they just expired the voucher earlier than they'd planned to then yes, I would agree there would be a possibility of it being honoured. But they didn't, they adjusted the same voucher in their database to have different criteria.
The reason your total price stays the same is because that's an estimate calculated at checkout. But again, discounts are not applied until picking.
This is now backed up by a poster a moment ago whose order arrived sans discount.

Delivery just arrived. No £20 voucher, only the valid £5 one. I asked the driver and he hadn't a clue. Suggested I contact customer service about it.
Asked if he'd wait while I did that, and after 10 mins waiting with Ocado on the phone he told me I had to either accept it or he had to go as he had other deliveries. I told him I wouldn't be accepting it (he was fine with it. Just drove off)
Finally got through to someone (20 mins), and they told me the voucher was a glitch and couldn't honor it and that correspondence would be going out but some peoples orders were arriving too soon for them to let them know first.
Got offered another £5 voucher for use another time if I wanted it...

Spoke to customer servies, they asked for the voucher code and they said that's showing up as minimum £80 spend. I gave them the price from the original confirmation email and he generated a new voucher code and applied it to the order
Also people need to relax, checking account information, times when you can cancel is useless - all that matters is their paperwork is the same same as the one emailed to you, which it more than likely will.
We know that peoples totals have not changed, just leave well alone and check back in tomorrow.

As usual people have to get greedy so other people miss out, I'm not surprised it was pulled.
I have spent several thousand pounds in John Lewis over the last few years and I won't be spending any more money there although I'll make sure I get a free coffee everyday for the next few years as I work nearby.
It particularly annoys me that Ocado are in some cases trying to deny the offer existed.
Im keeping my order and will refuse it if required. Im not going to be disgruntled its just a gamble like all glitches. I think Ocado will be the disgrunteld one having lots of orders returned.
Got another order for tomorrow, if it doesn't work then I'll just hand back £35 worth of groceries.
If orders aren't cancelled by Ocado then my prediction is that when the items are delivered tomorrow you will be charged the extra £20. That's down to the fact that the code has been amended and that we no longer fulfill the minimum £80 spend.
Whether Ocado are/are not allowed to charge us the extra £20 is another matter. I'm sure that within their own T&Cs if a voucher's condition is amended then they can do such a thing.
Hope I'm wrong and of course I would be happy if everyone had their orders fulfilled at the estimated price. But from past Ocado/Waitrose offers like this I think there will be a lot of disgruntled customers tomorrow.

They can charge more because Ocado have the right to 'withdraw or terminate any of its Vouchers at any time'. That's from their own T&Cs which we all agreed on when placing our orders.
Got a refund for all items I didn't want and took the ones I did, if they charge you more on the invoice when delivered (higly unlikely) you can simply refuse as you haven't agreed a price. They are absolutely more likely to take the hit however then secretly bump the price up, obviously don't change your date and time however as that means they can also adjust their price, as others have found out.

If the worst happens i'll just refuse delivery. I can't see how they can charge you more when you've been emailed confirmation. Although it does say "estimated" but then underneath it goes on about cheese weight etc.

1) the £5 flash code will not work as the site recognizes its already been used at that address
2) To use the £20 voucher you will need to change your last name slightly, IE add another letter at the end of your surname, then the £20 voucher should work
I swapped £10 of 1 thing for £10 of another so my total was the same but I still needed (as I expected) to go through check out.

Go to account settings, marketing preference. Opt out. Save settings. Then click home. The £5 message is on the right hand side. You have to click the link in that message for the voucher to be activated on your account. Opt in, then save settings.

My very first order from Ocado was a couple of days ago when I purchased the Coke / Rugby Ball so unfortunately I did not qualify as a new customer. To take advantage of this offer, i then decided to create a new account with my husbands name, a different email and a different phone number. To my surprise, this didn't work either as they had some of my details. At this point, here's me thinking it must be the address. So I created another account, with a different email and a different address (work address) and voila, it worked. So it seems you can only have 1 account for offers (or everything) at the same address. Also, this time around I used Quidco as I'd already used TCB with my order a couple of days ago. By the way, it took about 10 attempts for the £5 code to appear so like others spent £15 on a £40 shop with possible £6 Quidco. Hopefully I am making sense here.

After the page loads look towards the top right of the screen and you will see a message:
something like opt into marketing for £5 off.
click on the opt in link and it will load the marketing preference page again, now you tick all the boxes and click confirm.
The next page that loads look towards the top right (same place as before) and your code will be there, magic!
Hopefully the cashback will track too!

The code is not emailed, when browsing the site, there will be a message on the right hand side of the webpage (Main page of the site) asking you that you could earn £5 for opting back in. Click on it and follow instructions and the code is on the next page. Write it down as when you leave the page it will not appear again, unless you opt back out again and repeat the process.
