Hot, Hot, Hot - have one of these 32GB models, it got the official update to Android 6 a couple of weeks ago. It runs blazingly fast on it and with the size and screen resolution it's still a contender. Doubt you could buy anything new that's noticeably better for anything like this price.

Yes mine was getting a little sluggish under Lollipop to be honest but Marshmallow seems to have sorted that problem. Hopefully the standby battery life will be a little better under it too, we'll see.

If you can get it fantastic. I snapped mine up from Waitrose last year for £99, since then I've had three updates and a recent upgrade to Marshmallow. How many tablets costing £79 run Marshmallow and get regular updates? None I'd say!

More like you got the turkey.
Most modern Android tablets will outperform a 2012 1st generation Nexus plus you can add extra storage into them.
I would be very disappointed if I was you.

Not that good of a deal that you got. I got the Nexus 7 2013 32gb for £79 from ASDA 2 months ago, much better than the 2012 model in terms of specs.

That's the crazy voting on this site people don't think they just hit hot after seeing the deal name ( Nexus and Moto g) are the fave.
I bet £100 if I was to post ' Moto g 16gb LTE £49 Tescos in anytown' it would get into the 800 degrees and possibly deal of the day.

If it's the 2012 model, avoid!
I bought my 2012 Nexus 7 in 2014 (having been new in October 2013 I bought it used (mint) in the Spring of 2014) and liked it when I first got it. I couldn't understand all of the negativity it got from lots of people saying there's was unusable, and had become a brick / expensive ornament / paperweight. As mine, while not lighteningly quick, dealt with everything I wanted.
That was until about 3 months ago, having not used it for a while, and with literally only a handful of apps on my 16gb model, mine too was now the same. Slow didn't come close, very simple tasks such as opening settings or the play store for example, would take an age, not just seconds, sometimes minutes. Screen taps were not being recognised, the tablet also had a mind of it's own, screen going black, things closing and opening all of their own accord etc.
I never expected it to be fast, being an older tablet, however we weren't just talking slow, we were talking unusably slow and glitchy. Something that should be taking no more than a few seconds (really should be happening instantly) was taking 30, 40, 50 seconds, minutes, or just not happening at all. Updates to apps caused it all sorts of problems.
The thing that tipped mine over the edge, the app it couldn't cope with was 'Yahtzee with buddies'. Yep, certainly not a graphically intensive app.
I did the usual, uninstall everything/ factory reset. But to no avail, it was still unusably slow, and glitchy.
If all you're going to be using this for is literally light internet browsing and checking emails and possibly listening to some music, you may be lucky, you might be ok, but I wouldn't bet on even just that. Any updates to pre-installed apps will probably cause it many issues. If you're planning on anything more than this, you can definitely forget it.
Luckily, 2 months ago I managed to trade mine in at Grainger Games and got £54 for it (they weren't selling for that on ebay at the time, often selling in the £30 range).
In my opinion for the 2012 model and from mine and many other people's experience you'd be much better investing £79 in a newer tablet.

I have two 2012's which are still running very well but no not after updates, I updated one of them a while back and it made it pretty much unusable, after following loads of advice from various sites to make it work on the updated version I eventually gave up and restored it. (b ear in mind a factory reset isn't enough to get back to a previous OS)
no idea if the 2013 model would have the same problems or the other 2012 I have as they work fine so I'll just keep them on the old version now. From comments on here it sounds like the 2013 model updates OK?

These posts seem to confirm that the Asda offer (where available) is for the 2012 version - and therefore the thread title is wrong and very misleading. And the 'deal' is one of the hottest on the site today ... Oooops!

I had the 2012 model about 2 years back. It was nice at first (although the battery would run out), but then after a year it started running really slowly. After reading on various forums, I realised it was to do with the cheap RAM that Asus chose to use in it. After trying various fixes (including installing a custom ROM, third party apps, etc), it eventually stopped charging completely.
In the end, I decided to purchase a Lenovo Yoga 2 for £170 (mentioned here on HotUKDeals) a few months back. This same tablet has now dropped in price. It's definitely worth paying extra for a decent tablet.
If you're going to be using a tablet all the time, I would recommend saving for a decent one.

Deals like this clearly show that loads of people read the title and vote. Even sometimes comment.
However looking into the comments the deal is actually something like this - 1 Asda store in Swansea had them and they are the 2012 model.
