I've had a fault with a device from these, sent it back and they refunded. Took a bit of 'tooing' and 'froing' mind, but the main thing is they refunded

Very tempted, how do you check if these are EU version, plus aren't they a Chinese site? Could I be hit with import duty?

I've bought 2 phones from eGlobal without a problem. They're normally Asian imports flashed to an EU ROM, you won't have any issues with using it in the UK. Warranty is usually 1 year with them directly, I haven't had to use it but I think they're reliable from what I've read. You won't get stung for import duty, the phones get despatched from a UK address.

The days of 250-500 pound smartphones are over. There is no way I can justify paying these amounts when I can get a Honor or other less well known names with the same spec and reliabilty

No no no
You can't compare nexus to anything else even the same price range.
Nexus means 2-3 years of upgrades to newest android.
Even after that Nexus will get security updates - as my nexus 4 (yes, N four, 3 years old) is still getting.
Is there any other manufacturer who will give you that ?
Probably apple but the price is well above the nexus.
What about the root, custom rom, kernel, etc ?
My mate just get rid of galaxy S6 to buy Nexus 6 - This two devices can't be compared.
Nexus beats S6 badly. Only looses on lack of fingerprint scanner.
Don't get me wrong. I'll personally buy Honor 7 if I would never had Nexus in my hand..
It's not just all about hardware. It's more about software and stability and real life speed off it.
Still remember steps up from 4.2.2 - 4.4.4 - 5.0 - 5.1.1. This is where google stopped upgrading to newer android but CM and the rest will keep doing it for a long while.

This is only £15 more that the Honor 7!
You are guaranteed updates with the Nexus 6 till at least 2016-17, which I doubt Honor will give.
Also a larger screen and twice as much memory.
The AMOLED screen is amazing too!

the reviews on the honour 7 aren't that fantastic and not in the same league as the nexus 6! For only £15 more for the nexus 6 it makes it a no brained for me

You are buying a phone for a large sum of money and the advancements are simply not that advanced. I have a Samsung note 2. I have the latest android- even if I did not, it would not bother me. My phone is fast with little lag. As for "root, custom rom, kernel,"...Huh??? I use my phone for texting, calls, internet and whatsapp....Do people still use a phone for these things??? And my Note 2 is from 2011. Average phones from Honor and the like would murder my phone specs wise. Furthermore. I have no intention of buying a new phone.

To be honest with you, I could not tell the difference between a 5.3 inch and a 6 inch phone. They are pretty much the same to me. I would not buy above 6 inches because it would not fit in my pocket.

How did you get the latest version of android installed on your old phone if not a custom ROM? Sounds like your phone needs are very basic if you're just chatting and browsing. You don't need a Phablet for that.
BTW, I still rock a Note 2 and love it with my Custom ROM installed on it. Android v4.4.2. Rock solid for over 2 years now on the same ROM, and it's still fast enough for me (a power user). But I would like a newer phone simply because I want one.

Yes, I am using 4.4.2- is that not the latest one? Maybe I am mistaken. I use the phablet for a few games and most importantly reading. I have re-discovered books since owning a Note 2. You can read your current book anywhere.

It is the latest stock ROM for the note 2, the Nexus is on v6. I have just bought an Nexus 6 to replace my ageing Note 2. Hadn't noticed the note was particularly slow although it was lagging a bit at times. This Nexus is much faster though and the screen much nicer. It also has lots of nice touches such as smart lock that I like. I bought a 64Gb so hopefully won't miss the SD card - do miss the notification light though but not enough to root the N6 to get one again. Don't think the note 2 was around in 2011 BTW.

Sorry, it may have been 2012. I got my note 2 for £20 on someone's upgrade that they did not want. Then I simply unlocked for £8.99 and there it was: An unlocked Note 2 for £28.99. Now that is what I call a bargain. I think you are operating on a different level to me. I do not really need a smartphone to be faster than the Note 2 and
smart lock is just not work £250 plus. We were just different smartphone users with the same phone.
