I'm a single person living alone and usually charge just 2 items over night every night, but there are times I need to charge 2 or 3 additional items as well, so I can tell you it has it's uses and I find it great, I have had my earlier version of this product for over 18 months and can tell you and others I have had no problem with it what so ever, in fact because of all the negative comments previously I purchased an Aukey 6 outlet similar product to this that sits in a cupboard doing nothing, surplus to requirement.

What, if anything, is the difference between this and the older 40w/5-port version? Presumably more reliable?

Happily using the older version for over one year without so much as a hiccup.

Had the same but in my case they said they could simply contact the courier and retrieve the first one direct from them without me having to do anything extra.
Couldn't do a straight difference refund since it is a 3rd party product simply fulfilled by Amazon. Can't see the difference since end result is the same but their money to waste I guess.

I agree with some of the comments on here about Anker as a great company. I buy Anker PC peripherals whenever funds allow, such as my USB 3.0 to SATA connector for instance, I had it for approx 14 months when it developed a fault and contacted Anker with relevant invoice details of where I bought it from, and they just sent another unit out which has been working fine now for approx a year... I have no doubt that should this unit fail I will not have a problem getting a replacement.

I think it's a bit misleading that those devices are listed in the title. They're just things it could potentially power and have little to do with the product in itself. The package that comes with cables for those devices costs double. (Edit: Even then, the USB cables are all the same micro USB at different lengths, meaning you'll have to dish out more if you want a new iPhone/iPad charger for instance.)

I'm on the fence about this one. Good brand, but even as a daily deal that price isn't super-cheap for a hub. I think this is more useful either in a larger home without a computer always in close range (since it's mains-powered) or on the move. For a person living alone I think a standard hub would suffice. I have a lot of devices but seldom do I charge multiple at once.

no its pretty much everyone ... great little device but there must be a design defect or poor components etc .. still mine has been going for around a year fine bar the whistling noise

I contacted them and they said they couldn't refund me the difference... but I could order a new one and send back the first one!

So they approved a full refund on my previous order already, all I need to do is wait for the second one to be sent out and then just send it straight back. A bit silly but hey, I've done sillier things for 5 quid :smile:

Anker are a great company, if that helps anyone. They were awesome with a warranty repair on an old product I had with them. I have a very similar product to this, and happy to recommend - great for travelling.

I really like Anker products, but the only application I can think of is to charge my various Anker batteries. However I just plug them all into different ports on my PC.

I got the 6 port (60w) instead for a few quid more :smiley:

I was concerned about the same thing. I was told, some of the original 25W versions had that issue. I have 3 of these and none of mine make a high pitched noise. Ankers support is really good, might be worth contacting them. :smiley:

Seems like a nice little device. I'm not sure why but I was surprised at how tiny it was. Also it comes with a self adhesive sticker which was a nice little bonus, it's now mounted next to some sockets. Very handy.

and my one does (and the one i originally sent back) ... if you plug just one thing in it buzzes like hell if you plug 2/more things in then the high pitched buzzing goes away

Yup, it would be better to purchase a product designed specifically for 'in-car' use. If you insist on using this exact product then you would need a product called a '12v car power inverter'. This will allow you to use standard 3-pin plugs in your car via the cigarette lighter socket. You should ensure that it is at least 40watts (most decent ones start at 100w, however).

I'm guessing by not stating he 'binned' them, that he took them to his local tip who most likely have a container for electronics to be 'recycled'.
You appear to be attacking him for making a conscientious statement. I had no trouble understanding the scenario. I also have a small box in the utility room of broken electronics ready to be 'recycled' and not thoughtlessly binned.

In fact, I would go as far as to say that most people would make sense of his comment. People, I think, are surely familiar with the recycling of small electronics. This can be done at many supermarkets, recycling centres, or waste disposal centres.

Would this one not be a better buy? £10.99 at the time of posting.

It has Quick Charge 2.0 and is 54W compared to the 40W Anker.

Only thing that puts me off is the name and the annoying 'unbiased' reviews that seem to be the craze on Amazon these days.

Got one of these (or similar) year or so ago, excellent item.

Anyway, I think olisun meant that he didn't have to send the faulty unit back, Anker simply sent a replacement.
There have been quite a few comments in the past about Anker doing that, cheaper for them in the long run.

I had the older version where the ports stopped working after a few months.. Anker sent me a upgraded replacement, which had the same issue in the 17th month..

Anker has now sent me this version and I hope it doesn't end up with the same fate.

Yeah, hot. Bought one of these a few months ago from a marketplace seller for £15 and found it to be a fake. After some faffing around Amazon refunded me.
The one in this deal, however, is sold Anker and will be genuine.

I have a couple of these and they are superb, if only they came with the excellent short charge leads that Anker do I would have four.

These are brilliant, also top customer service. One port on mine stopped after 13 months and they replaced it for free, didn't even want the old one back.

These are truly excellent. currently have two iPads, iPhone and s3 charging off one of these but about to add a note 4 so may get the 60w 6 port version.
Apart from the convenience it makes traveling with a bunch of devices very easy. But biggest benefit is the very low power consumption when nothing is charging. Compare this to 5 separate chargers and it will pay for itself in no time!
