I've got two of them - both work fine on my LG G2 and Galaxy S5, and they work on my Windows 8.1 tablet (again with the microUSB), and with my laptop and in the car (with the full size connector).
No apps needed at all - just very handy for phones/tablets with limited on board storage.

Got one of these a couple of weeks ago. It may be USB 3.0 but it's no faster than a good USB 2.0 drive. USB Flash Benchmark shows average write speed of 20.0MB/s and average read speed of 31MB/s. Slo-o-oow.....
