Just a heads up that fireworks in Morrisons went half price or better in my local store today (Leigh). This may be store specific, but I expect if one is clearing them then any with remaining stock will be doing the same.
Got loads of different fireworks, a couple of selection boxes priced at £5 and £9, however the £9 box actually went through at £6.50!!
Decent size rocket selection pack for £5
Small rockets £2.50
Large sparklers £1
Various multi shots from £2.50 upto £7.50 for large ones.
While I'm sure this won't be for everyone, these are ideal for the new year, so you can save yourself a small fortune now.
Thanks for looking and I hope this helps someone. :)

Sorry but I wish they would ban these. My mum and dads dog has been a nervous wreck the past week and there is nothing we can do to help her. I now dread Hogmanay as she goes through the same thing. Organised displays only should be allowed.

~2-3 days either side they are generally used around the 5th of November and are used on New Year, hardly something to ban thats used for a few days.
If they want to ban something make it smoking in public, I cant walk down town without being behind some **** smoking, 10 seconds behind them and I sound like ive just ran a mile uphill im gasping for air and thats every day.
I cant even enjoy a nice hot chocolate in town inside a cafe without someone smoking outside and having it work its way in.

How about banning dogs instead. They cause a much higher amount of anti social complaints through barking making residents lives hell 365 days a year. but sure, three weeks of the occassional long bang scaring a skittish poodle should mean banning the enjoyment of millions of people through a ten minute firework display.

Licence costs under £200 per year per store for all year round storage and sale of fireworks so I wouldn't be surprised if Morrisons have payed for licence as doesn't even dent their finances.

Pet owners should be able to keep them under control, like others have said they should train them to deal with it. We have two old english bull mastiffs and they never barked once this year during the time fireworks were set off. It's lazy dog owners who fail to teach their dog to stay calm during fireworks that are to blame. Instead of moaning they need to sort their pets out, dog barking is one of the top noise nuisances in this country.

I am not keen to erode anybodies freedom, but do think they should be taxed appropriately to represent the substantial damage they do to the environment. This would likely seem to also reduce the sound pollution for pet owners, the amount of self injuries, and perhaps the least likely benefit - increase revenue for our government to spend wisely.

Even at 50% off they're still a rip off, if you want proper fireworks go to a proper shop and get some Celtic, Jorge, Absolute, Brothers or many other brands, you will never buy fireworks from a supermarket again.

"on average 1,000 people each year have required treatment for firework injuries"

That's true you can only sell them legally from 15th Oct to 10th Nov and the 26th dec to 31st Dec without the appropriate licence.

As other poster says it's only a few days not going on all year is it. You also forget that not everyone is lucky enough to live in an area where their are orgainsed displays. With all the council cut backs many places haven't had a fireworks display in some years.

The organised display near me rained hot debris down on the crowd, people were running with kids to get out, ambulances called etc!! however my firework display caused no injuries!! which should be banned?

That's a training issue and your problem, fireworks haven't just arrived from nowhere and have been getting less powerful for years. I have TWO dogs and cats nine of which are bothered by fireworks.
Buy a cheap of fireworks to play to desensitisatise or buy a thunder sheet, play radio or TV to cover the noise.
I'm sick of whining pet owners bitching about fireworks because of their pets. Guess what YOUR pet YOUR responsibility. Do some training to help tgem

Sorry but I don't think that's fair. My son has aspergers he likes the fire works but hate large crowds and if it was only for public displays he wouldn't get to enjoy them, which I feel is discriminatory I had a dog and thankfully she is fine with them but I know others aren't but for a few days a year it's a tad extreme to ban then for public sale

Its amazing how many people start off with an apology prior to calling for a ban on something that the vast majority of people use responsibly and get great enjoyment from. I know pets vary, its a minority of dogs who get so affected. As for only organised displays should be allowed... I am sure you will get your way one day. Like everything else enjoyable, it will be taken away from us one day no doubt, mostly due to the vocal minority.

If you've got adequate storage for fireworks 1.4 or 1.3G you only need a sales licence to sell outside of this period its not the huge expensive licencing for long term storage and as both our local stores were selling off this week and printed signage said available until 17th id assume they DO have a sales licence. Not that its any of our business and quite frankly who really cares anyway?
Got our school display tonight as was cancelled last week for bad weather and haven't done our garden ones yet either, oh well lol!
The debate got started for the same reason people start slagging of other deals for no reason, they're miserable and petty minded. My mum said if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything!

I thought this site was for bargains, why has a debate started about dislikes of fireworks, I don't like my wife and her boyfriends but I don't post it on here
I bet they are breaking the law by selling these.
You can only sell them up until November 10th unless you purchase an expensive all-year licence. I can't see Morrisons buying this licence as they only sell them at Bonfire night.
I bet the Leigh store manager is not aware of the law. Don't expect all stores to be making this mistake !

Oh poor you. Maybe walk to the other side of the road from the smoker. I'm not a smoker but I don't seem to run into the same problems as you and my lungs are fine.

I wish it was only 2/3 days either side of the 5th but now its a 3 week event with bangs going off every night. Yes they should be banned and only allowed at organised events! Nothing but a nuisance to animals and young children that are petrified of them.
