This deal still live? Only on the Microsoft website it added to my basket for £169.99? Lucky for me, a medium just about fits. I have Windows Phone and so can't wait to try out Cortana!

Really polished little device which works really well with android. Looks a bit like a tag however. I'd have definitely kept it had the screen protector been fitted and if it worked with endomondo. Runkeeper, Strava and others work however.

Thanks for the reply, think I'm going to pull the trigger on one! Sizing is a little confusing but will try a medium first! I only need calls, texts, whatsapp alarms and appointments and I'm done  So hopefully it'll be perfect!

Battery life is about comparable with similar devices, and not improved in the v2 band.
As to how long you get with the battery, I'd say it depends - GPS usage takes it out on the battery, so depends on how you use it, really.
Mine gets used for indoor workouts (so no GPS usage, normally) mostly, and I normally make sure it gets some charge most days - I try and be preemptive with that, though, rather than having to charge it because it's almost flat.
As to notifications well it's configurable, and where that's concerned I've used mine with Windows phone and Android. Can't recall specifically for whatsapp, but wouldn't have thought that should be a problem. I have them selectively enabled, I don't want email or facebook notifications on my band, just calls, texts, alarms and appointments.

How are you finding the band? Is battery life decent? Do all whatsapp etc notifications come through fine? Very tempted to order one, but really want to know how well it plays with android if you can help!
Thanks

Unsurprisingly it doesn't come with the screen protector fitted. Not as far as I can see anyway. It did however pair up with my Z3C running Marshmallow straight away and the large is a very good fit on me. I'm going to get on their case and see if they'll send one out.

Just to say that I now have the band working. Supposedly my phone's version of Kitkat was a basic install and therefore wasn't compatible(?!). I decided to see if I could follow the upgrade advice online and flash lollipop on it. It took a while, but I got there in the end, only to see my MS Band still start with the same can't find your phone loop. I don't know what I did, but suddenly it connected and I'm wearing it now!
I had already tried my Kitkat phone, Windows 7 desktop PC and Windows 10 laptop to sync with the band, all with no joy (my Sony tablet wasn't compatible with the Microsoft Health app so I couldn't test that).
Fingers crossed that nothing cocks it up, but there you go. Ta for your efforts.

Just to mention, when I first got my band, back in April, I couldn't use the phone I had then (a BlackBerry Z10 at the time) so had to set it up purely using the sync app on a Windows laptop.
That said, Android 4.4, I would have thought, should be compatible - does the phone have bluetooth 4 LE and does the Microsoft Health app install from google play?
Geenius
11 Nov 15#44
Sounds like my phone may not be compatible. I've got a Jiayu S3 (Android 4.4.4) and the woman in tech support is "looking into it" to see if that may be the problem. Ah well, back it goes again I guess. Cheers anyway

The only thing I can suggest is try to clean the connector on the band, and if that makes no difference try doing a factory reset on the band and try setting up again.

Yeah, that's what I mean. I've connected/disconnected the magnetic connector numerous times. It 'knows' something is connected as the swirly symbol starts up but after a couple of seconds just tells me that it can't see my band and I should try connecting it. I'm going to get hold of MS support again tomorrow and I assume it'll be back in the post to Germany in a day or 2 again.

Anyone else have a problem with the initial set-up? This is my second attempt at getting one and this is doing exactly the same as the first which, it was agreed with their tech support, was faulty. I can't believe others get working ones and I have had two dodgy ones here.
It initially pairs with my phone but then nothing beyond something like "You're synced. Go back to the app to continue", but then nothing happens. The band isn't detected by the computer software either.
This is seriously doing my nut in.
Lester Burnham to Geenius
10 Nov 15#37
By computer software, do you mean the band sync app for Windows (or Mac I suppose)?
Sometimes the magnetic connection doesn't quite seat right and needs it reconnecting. When I first got mine, my phone (then, was a BlackBerry Z10) wouldn't run the app, so I set it up entirely by computer.

I've had a Microsoft Band since the UK launch in April. In terms of what you get, especially at this now discounted price, it's got great spec.
People already using HRMs with chest straps may find the heart-rate as measured, not as accurate - the optical sensors work best when you're still / static.
They're not the most comfortable or ergonomic wrist device ever, but you do get used to it.
Spec on the v2 band include one new sensor, no apparent improvement in battery life or meaningful improvement in water resistance. However they do seem to be enabling developments in software on the v2 band, where you'd struggle to accept that such things couldn't or shouldn't be enabled on the original band, especially as it only came out in April, and was hardly a mature device at that point.
The ergonomics and gorilla glass of the new version do seem quite worthwhile, although I've not tried one on to see if it really is an improvement. What I would say is that a screen protector is pretty much essential for the original band, and the one supplied by Microsoft (Zagg) seems to be the best, if a little tricky to apply.
As I mentioned, it does seem a bit irritating that it very much looks like all new developments will probably only get implemented on the v2 band, especially given the brief period the original has been available in the UK, and it was in need of development - given that features like UV sensor / monitoring were never as autonomous as described, but appear to be being implemented more like described on the new band. That probably would be quite as annoying if the new band was significantly different, but functionally it's only got one more sensor.

I have a Band 2. Honestly if you want a Band, then you may as well get the Band 1 at this price. The 2 is only moderately more comfortable. The barometer to count flights/stairs etc doesn't seem to work very well anyway, so not missing much by having the Band 1 instead.

remember you can trade in the band one for £70, so seems like a good reason to get one
a)it's good enough you keep it
b)you don't like it, there's not much difference with the two, so you haven't wasted your money
c)you like it and want to upgrade, you make £11 on the deal

Bitten the bullet again (ordered one when it came down to £99.99 a few weeks ago).
I just hope that this one works as the last one didn't connect properly. 3 hours after receiving it and chatting with the support, it was back in the box ready to return.
I also previously had the Paypal loop issue. Just used my debit card this time.
edit: The Mi band does not do MOST of the functions of this (I have the Mi band already and know someone with the MS Band). The Mi band I have doesn't even track things accurately. Regular occurrences of mine 1. Cleaning in work = hundreds of steps as my hand is moving. 2. Awake and checking the time = deep sleep. YMMV

The Mi band does most of the functions of band 1 at a lot less, band two looks more viable

I can add a review: I bought this because it was decent tech and I had a few Microsoft (MS) devices.
From what I see, the need for other MS devices has reduced and the iOS, Android and web dashboards have improved.
The amount of sensors you get on this is a little better (at the price now - not so much when I paid £169.99!) than competitors, but the interface isn't great. What's-more is that the MS Band 2 is out, so development will always go to that device.
Bottom line for others: if you're looking for an all-in-one device for running (I can't talk for 'excercise' or 'golf') to track GPS and heart rate (HR) then this is a steal at this price. Obviously MS Band 2 is around so if you need the extra features then ya pays the extra price.
