With the nights drawing in and the clocks going back this is a really good deal, I can drive my normal E class in the the day and then switch to this special "Night Edition" in the early evening. Heat added.

Uhhhh they dont include the VAT because many people taking these deals are doing so for business and as such will claim the VAT back....
My neighbour recently bought a 2010 BMW 318i Sport Plus in black with a full BMW main dealer service history & only 39k on the clock for £4900
I know the arguments about new cars etc.....but given the choice between this lease deal & the outright purchase of the BMW I would choose the BMW....
At the end of 2 years the lease will have cost almost £9k with nothing to show & a limited mileage .... the BMW will still have cost under £5k & still be worth between £3k & £4k
Would I rather have 2 years motoring in a luxury German car at a cost of £2k or £9k ?? The 5 year old BMW is like a brand new car inside

2010, 318i, luxury? I beg to differ.

So let's get this straight...
You're comparing a genuine deal that people can get to some completely made up nonsense that someone has told you, which you go on to admit isn't an option for anyone considering this particular deal?
Do you think we're all hard of thinking?
I've just put one of those cars that pgilc1 posted links to into We Buy Any Car and they're offering £9,000 for it.
There is not a company on this planet that would be in the position of running 5 year old company cars (if they were doing that well they wouldn't be running old, low spec cars) and then letting staff buy them for half their trade value. When in a matter of minutes they could have pocketed an extra £20k by passing them on to WBAC.
Very surprised any company would let a car go at that price when its worth twice that retail.
Hes either extremely "in the know" with the company in question or hes pulling the wool over your eyes.
I wouldnt like to be setting the expectation that anybody can buy a low miles 2010 318i Sport Plus for £4,900 as its a rarity at best.

The bargains are out there.....bought direct from a company replacing 5 of their fleet......normally they send them all to auction ......I think there's on on eBay for around £6k at the moment ....he may even be able to sell on for a profit in 2 years & have had effectively free motoring then
pgilc1

He did extremely well. Cheapest comparable car on autotrader is £8,500. He bought that several thousand below trade price.

Non maintained.......so main dealer Merc services on an AMG........not cheap
Only 10k miles a year.......most of those this is aimed at will be doing 50k+ a year
Not voting hot or cold as it's not a deal for me......but there may be some who it suits

£245 for a fixed price service a a Merc main dealer on the E class. Doesnt sound any worse than any other car tbh?
Tyranicus66 to corred1964
27 Oct 152#10
No obligation to service at Merc providing OEM parts used. Furthermore this is not a proper AMG its just a snazzy trim in the same way that an M-Sport is not an M car for BMW, so its servicing will be the same as any other large exec (think 5 Series, A6). Only point that makes sense is that this is a motorway muncher and most will want a lot more miles in the deal.
DrRollo to corred1964

It's not a AMG its a diesel! It's just got AMG style pack.
pgilc1 to corred1964
27 Oct 15#45
I dont think most who will want one will do 50K miles per year. From where i work here i overlook an office car park across the road and its full of big mercs and audis just like this one that sit there from morning to night, then get driven home again.
Besides, i'm sure they'll happily tweak the deal to suit mileage requirements
Also, as has been said, its not an AMG, its a diesel Merc with some AMG stick on bits. Just like a BMW 320d M Sport isnt an M3.

Specific dealer servicing may be included as part of a contract that's true but it unlawful for Ford to threaten to void your warranty because of it - providing you stick to OEM parts. The whole thing went to the EU courts and they found on the side of the motorist.

Nice car but I don't think this is a particularly strong deal. Had it been £6.5k to £7k over the tearm, that would be a good deal. The trend seems to be to whack up the initial payment so the brokers can get lower monthly payments to headline and catch your attention. Personally I hate anything more than a 6+23/35 and prefer a 3+X model.

I hate these companies that don't include VAT in their prices. I try to avoid them whenever I can. If you can't tell me the price I will pay who knows what else you're hiding in the terms and conditions.

? Volvo S40 business edition is £18k. Why pay £9k to lease a car when you can pay the same and own half a perfectly good car?

I have the estate version on a 2 year deal and it's a fantastic car. I ordered mine about 12 months ago and there was such a wait I got upgraded to the night edition at no extra cost. My deal was 6 + 23 at 297 per month for 10k. Be aware of servicing costs though. I was quoted 300 and 500 for the 2 services that would need to be done while I have it. Instead I got a really good deal for full maintenance, including tyres for just 16 per month! Leasing is not for everyone but o couldn't come close to owning a car of this quality any other way.

Dunno why people should say lease vs buy, rent vs ownership, free vs. pay, zero hour vs. full time, one time payment vs. instalments, as they are all totally different, only a real person paying money out his pocket can express for himself which is a better deal.
mr_wacky_unis
27 Oct 15#29
You do have to get it serviced with a main dealer as it's part of the terms and conditions on the contract as it's a Mercedes finance offer. If you don't you will get fined at end of contract when you hand it back.

What a great way to spend my tax credits, and it's cheaper than my motability lease too!
That 2 year deal lease is expensive ,add it as this 5 year lease = you own the car if you didn't lease it.
pgilc1 to sofiasar
27 Oct 15#25
Hows its expensive? Its roughly equal to or less than the depreciation you'd otherwise suffer in the first two years anyway?

I'm currently leasing a Fiesta ST and one of the stipulations in my contract is that the car must be serviced at an authorised Ford dealer otherwise you void the warranty, this might not be the same for all lease contracts but something worth noting just in case anyone was counting on being able to get this serviced at their regular back street garage.

Depreciation = purchase price - selling price.
You can get £7,000 off this with relative ease. Yes, the new one might be worth more come resale time, but you wont get anywhere near £7,000 off it when its launched, plus spec for spec this will be better value as its a high spec limited edition.
Also, this is a lease deal so depreciation isnt a consideration as you dont own the car.

I believe this is the outgoing model with the old interior so they give them a fancy name, lower the price and try to shift some units.
It's used after dark for certain segments of society to carry out their business dealings. First job: get illegal tint on the front windows.

Night edition is the car where normally chrome now has black to give it a more stealth look, I think it looks great. They brought it out when they made leather seats standard but Merc now charge for metalic paint that used to be free so they brought out the colour white with the night pack as all the other models have.

Its around £31-£32,000 discounted.
However even at that i'd say the total lease cost is roughly equal to, or less than the depreciation you'd otherwise suffer anyway if you put £32,000 of your own hard earned into one, so this is a good deal.
