I posted this the other day on the BMW 330d deal.

f you really want to get a "business deal" then most of them accept you being self-employed. Whilst self-employed doesn't actually have a status as such (you are neither an employee nor a director of a business, if you follow) this can be readily achieved by you setting up your own self-employed / sole trader business. You might do a bit of gardening for an elderly neighbour and charge them £20 and give them a receipt or maybe fix someone's PC for them and charge and issue a receipt. So you only turned over £400 that tax year which you, of course, report via self-assessment (which many of us already have to fill out even as regular PAYE people). Self Assessment tax returns are usually accepted by lease companies for 'business deals'.

Read between the lines people.

Only if you really aren't a very good driver. I've driven my supercharged AMG up country hills in snow and ice without a major problem. You just need to know how to drive and/or fit winter tyres. There's so much electronic safety systems on a Merc, it's almost impossible to get them sideways (even when you want to..)

This really is extremely helpful. Thanks.

There will have been many, many people who didn't realise it was possible to buy a 7 year old car and keep it until you pointed it out.

Yes, as is the one posted earlier. I included it in the description above too. I only posted this deal as I commented on the earlier one that this cheaper deal is available but the earlier one is still getting more heat.

I didn't want anyone to end up going for that one at nearly £1,000 more when this is available.

It's not my cup of tea, but it's cheaper.

Hi, I'm new to leasing, what does it mean when it states 9+23, do you have to pay extra these months? Thanks in advance.
cuthy2k to Superhoops
27 Oct 15 1 #8
it means you have to pay 9months of payment up front as a non-refundable deposit. Then 23 monthly payments after that.
Jimmyboy to Superhoops
27 Oct 15 #9
Yes, upfront you pay 9 x the monthly payment. It used to be 3 payments and then sometimes 6 but now 9 seems the norm. Effectively by paying 9 upfront it allows them to make the remaining monthly payments look lower.
Youngy
27 Oct 15 1 #7
If you get car allowance through employer can you take up these business deals?
Jimmyboy to Youngy
27 Oct 15 #11
I dont think so. A car allowance is like just having extra salary. To qualify for a business lease you would need to either get your employer to take it out in their company name or have your own company. Either way you will also pay benefit in kind tax each year too unless the car was solely for business use eg parked at the place of employment every night and weekend.
SilverBandit to Youngy
27 Oct 15 #18
The lease firm I used allowed this, I just had to get my line manager to sign a form confirming that I was provided with a monthly car allowance.
nutbolt
27 Oct 15 #10
it means 9 initial payment amounts to start with then your setup on a 23 month schedule so 9x204.99=1844.91 initial payment plus 23 months at £204.99
NARMAK
27 Oct 15 #12
I know it says business lease but can i take this out as a private individual if i pay all the VAT included payments anyways?
AshFlash to NARMAK
27 Oct 15 #15
Sometimes you can, sometimes not.

It's dependent upon how strict they are with it being a business lease.

Sometimes they only require a declaration that you are entitles to claim business mileage from your employer. Sometimes being in receipt of a car allowance will do it. Sometimes, as someone stated above, you need to be a bone fide business taking out the contract and nothing else will be accepted.

I'm afraid I don't know in this example, it would be a case of asking them.
Mbshrekito to NARMAK
27 Oct 15 #16
Not normally - finance for personal is different to finance for business - different laws so they have to be strict which is one of the reasons business finance is cheaper is that their is no consumer protection.

kiish
27 Oct 15 #26
Point of leasing usually is you can get a new car for 2-3 years at usually around the cost of depreciation and then just swap it out for a newer model (i think?)

A lot of people will be happy to just drive the same car for 5-10 years whilst others...

There aren't many 7 year old cars that are worth buying for that sort of money, the C220 is, I'd rather have an asset in two years after spending nearly 8 grand rather than a memory.

Just because you know everything doesn't mean someone else who has 8 grand to spend wouldn't like alternatives.

I agree it's not an invalid point per se, it's just that on EVERY lease deal we get the same old stuff trotted out.

Without fail.

Every. Single. Time.
AshFlash
27 Oct 15 #38
Ok, but how do you reconcile the fundamental lack of a tangible asset when you purchase a holiday, for instance?

Spend £5k on a couple of weeks somewhere nice and come back with absolutely nada, zilch, nothing.

Or do you not do things like go on holiday?

Anyone have any experience of the lease company? A few if their deals look OK but how do they treat you at the end of the term? What they like with eg minor scratches etc? Are they like hire companies who charge hundreds for the tiniest scratch?

barbiegirl
28 Oct 15 #46
Then you haven't thought about this very deeply at all. If you spend £8000 on a car, you no longer have the king of assets - cash. You can no longer invest that asset into something appreciating (from a simple ISA to stocks or more exotic financial instruments, should you so wish). So no, a depreciating asset is far from better than no asset and even further away from keeping your capital rather than spending it.

If your "business" isn't worth at least twice the total lease deal you won't get the car.
Jimmyboy to barbiegirl
1 Nov 15 #53
Nope, you will still have to pay every month. The first payment is the equivalent of 3 months it has no bearing on time.
This deal is 24 monthly payments, the first monthly payment is the equivalent of 9 monthly payments and then 23 following monthly payments of the single amount.
barbiegirl
29 Oct 15 #49
I can tell you from direct and current experience, that for my most recent lease, this wasn't the case at all.

kevindinsdale
31 Oct 15 #52
With a lease, if the initial payment is 3 months, and say it came to £900, does that mean I don't pay for the first 3 months of the lease? Or is it like, pay your initial payment of 3 months, then the following month pay your monthly rental?
dvjs07
26 Nov 15 #54
Great deal for sure
markmacd
14 Dec 15 #55
the 9 relates to the down payment which works out at 9 x the monthly rental. You pay the down payment in one lump and then pay 23 payments at the price quoted. Looks a great deal for a £38k car as the effective cost is less than depreciation over the 2 years if you shelled out £38k to buy it.
