I would buy the Chuwi Hi8 from gearbest.com eu warehouse for around £60 (better RAM, better screen, no HDMI), or wait for the Hi8 Pro due in a few weeks for a similar price and featuring HDMI and updated chipset.

Not really, a few weeks go at Dabs they were selling the dell 8" windows tab for £59 and staples were selling this for £49 last yr, just wait for a few weeks and there will be some cheaper deals on these. It's overpriceed. The dell was better than this chinese rebadged tablet.

The newer Linx 810 and 1010 both have built in USB slots (1010 has two).

From the ebuyer site: "connections are Micro HDMI (Output), Micro USB (Charge and Data) and Micro SD".

In saying that, £73.99 for a newer Linx 8 with USB and Windows 10 is not that great - I bought my Linx 10 nearly a year ago when it was £79.98. I would buy a refurb Technika Connect 7 for £32.99/34.99 from ebay, if you really must have a similar device, or hold off a while. The Windows 10 upgrade (via Windows Update) only takes a few days to appear and is pretty painless.

The linx 810 does NOT have full size usb connections, but you are correct the 1010 does have 2 full size usb's

Available Last year for £50 from staples. It's a yr older now so should be cheaper. Like someone said above, wait for a better deal in the next month or two.

I got mine from Banggood but agree it's one of the best small tablets I've ever used, the display is amazing. Android dual-boot is useful but I'm usually using Windows 10.

got my hi8 delivered yesterday from gearbest. ordered it almost a month ago but they said due to no stock they couldnt send me one out untill the end of october. i guess i was lucky as it workes perfectly and no import tax. oh and its a great tablet. very quick and responsive and the screen looks nice too. build quality is a little cheep but what do you want for about £65 inc post

I've got a Chuwi Hi8 and agree that is by far the best VFM but only if you actually like sorting out the inevitable technical bugs and fixes yourself with minimal manufacturer support. The Chuwi official website is in Chinese and even after Google translate, is almost totally incomprehensible. Luckily there's the TechTablet website that has reviews and user forums. The Chuwi Hi8 is a great tablet for the price though and running both android and win 10 is very useful at times.

Be warned about these. 3 of my colleagues and I all bought linx tablets (8 or 10 1st gens) during the staples fire sale last year. They all broke in a similar way within a month of each other in august. The screen stopped displaying correctly and responding to touch. Linx said that this was not covered by warranty and they have no repair infrastructure so all they could offer was a refurbished replacement where you give them 70 quid and your old unit and they give you a refurbished unit.

Awful customer service. I wont be buying again.

sure its a gamble but its worth the gamble for the price.

The chuwi hi8 and its performance is exceptional - 20% slower than my samsung tab s 8.4 and about as quick as the latest ipad mini. downsides are no wireless ac, slow charge, battery life is great, speaker is laughable but everything is great

I rolled back the Windows 10 update on my Linx 8 months ago because I found the Internet browser experience was nowhere near as good, and I almost exclusively use the device for Internet browsing. Don't suppose anyone knows whether Microsoft have gotten round to improving IE or their new Edge Browser to support swipe gestures yet in Windows 10, have they?

True but black friday is in a few weeks - so unless desperate for one now, you may just pick up something better eg with 2GB for around the same price?
1GB may be fine for the OS itself but once you run a program or two things get cramped and a pagefile on small emmc flash is not fun...
2GB allows for plenty of buffering which again helps the relatively slow emmc when you're not using the memory for something else.

Same hardware specification, this comes preloaded with Windows 10 instead of Windows 8.1 as per last years model. Presumably the name is 810 because it's a Linx 8 with Windows 10.

There's a new build of Windows 10 to be released next week, it's already doing the rounds on torrents. The build is 10586 and known as Windows 10 Threshold 2. This tablet should update to that build this month. The current official release of Windows 10 is build 10240.

Using the ver command in command prompt elicits this response on current official builds >

I think the phrase 'beggars can't be choosers' summarises this and I agree that it's a lot of tech for little money. I use a Linx 7 from time to time and am yet to reach its limitations, maybe I just understand what it is I purchased; for heavy-duty work, I use my Surface Pro 3.

Not in my experience they aren't. I've sold them and had customers moaning about the speed of them. For the price it's hard to grumble, this is a Windows Tablet PC for £79, that's pretty amazing in itself, but we get so used to technology and always expect more for our money.

2GB is better obviously but 1GB is just fine - Windows 8 and 10 make efficient use of what they have available.

These tablets are just not nice to use with 1GB RAM, you get what you pay for. I've used a few different brands, the brand doesn't matter that much but the spec does. With 1GB these feel sluggish, the screen rotation is slow and cumbersome.

Have to agree with shylander. Its all well and good if your item works and is as described but any problems and they dont want to know. Personal experience with Geabest. Bought from EU warehouse had to ship it back to China. Got money back through paypal after dispute but lost the return shipping cost.
