a highly rated NiMH or nicad battery charger for 12.99 from the 12th of Nov. supposed to have inners equivilant to a £40 maha charger.
has lots of features such as discrete slots for each battery, meaning each battery is properly monitored, rather than summarising across 2 batteries.
I for one will be trying to grab 2 first thing, alongside 4 packs each of Aa and Aaa batteries which I've just posted, to keep my kids toys running over Xmas!

This charger still fast-charges the batteries, so is not as good for maximising their life. The batteries do get hot and will stay warm even if left on trickle charge.
It also will not charge batteries that are too exhausted. I normally have to charge exhausted batteries in another charger.
It's OK for the price though.

I've been using one of these for a couple of years in conjunction with the newer type Rechargeable Duracells, this is a great charger, well worth the money. The initial outlay for charger / Batteries is quite high, but if you use a lot of high power batteries then it soon pays for itself. This takes all the normal sizes from AAA - D's and even the old PP9's (No idea what they are called now)

Yep - i've been on the lookout for it to re-appear for a few months!
I've managed to recover a few poor batteries that were charged in shared slot chargers in one i borrowed for a few weeks, so will be glad to own my own, especially with 6 slots each charger. the discharging cycle takes a while, so with a few batteries to do, the extra slots are very useful.

Great charger, been using one for a couple of years. When it comes to reachable batteries its worth investing in the low self discharge ones like eneloop.

Hmm, it appears that there are slight variations on this charger over the years, some allow you to choose the the charge and discharge rate, some don't. The batteries heating is likely a statement on your batteries, rather than the charger itself, but if the charger allows you to change the charging rate ( some variants do, some don't), then this is better.

Have the previous Tronic charger, very good, use it nearly every day

It's any battery from many different manufacturers.
I've not seen any of these Tronic chargers that allow you to alter the charge rate - including this one

This charger has useful additional features, USB socket for charging external devices and voltage adjustment for international use.

Hmm, what to do. I've been waiting for these to appear at Lidl for quite some time. My last 'Tronic' charger decided to overcharge, melting a pin (or two) which in turn popped a battery cap. Acid filled charger - game over. Luckily I was in (never ever go out whilst leaving a battery charger on) so smelled the burning and heard the crackling!
These new generation models look better but for the money (or not much more) you could get better from Ebay etc. such as this:
which has intelligent charge (auto) or selectable charging current. Also, selectable discharge, refresh and test function. Just be wary that some don't always come with a 3-pin plug - but a 2-pin and cruddy adapter.
Then; of course; the Lidl one does come with the peace-of-mind three year warranty and no-quibble return.
Decisions, decisions...

You would be surprised then, that there ARE Lidl stores in up-market areas such as mine !

I have both this model and the previous one as well, brilliant charger for the price, I do not use the newer one as I bought on sale as a backup (£5) and LIDL Tronic ready to use batteries are a bargain at twice the price.

I have one of the earlier Lidl ones without the LCD display and no usb output, and have found the same as Waldolf.
It is a pretty good charger, but the charging current is on the high side, a slower charge rate would prolong the life of the batteries.
Batteries do tend to get hot although not always significantly, it also sometimes misses the termination point on some cells (I gather not an uncommon problem with dV nimh chargers) and significantly overcharges them if not spotted.
Some sets of cells are more prone to getting very hot than others, and it seems to happen more frequently with Eneloops, but it also happens with any of them, including new ones.
Neither mine, nor any of the lidl tronic chargers I've seen for sale have adjustable charge rates, although some models charge at a lower current if more cells are inserted or the usb port is in use.

Does this latest version measure cell capacity? I have an older version (no LCD) which I've been very happy with. Really like that it can handle so many cell numbers/types. Capacity measurement is the only feature it lacks.
I second that. I have one of these as I missed out on last the tronic one last time.

This is a tough one. The Lidl one is cheap and has a 3 year warranty, the 7DayShop one looks significantly better (but more expensive) and the Nitecore is more flexible, especially if you want to to charge 18650s.
Grrrr.
Edit: I've put a CamelCamelCamel price watch on the Nitecore for £17

Its also marketed as a La Crosse in the states. Lots of youtubers rave about them. Julian Llett did a review on YouTube about it. Quite possibly a bigger battery charger nerd than me... but not by much!

I have one of these. it works well. I have read that the charge is a bit heavy though which can reduce the life of the battery.

I was really disappointed with this. it seems to take agges to read the battery and display how full it is, and it's only in % rather than voltage.
surprised this is well rated but I suppose its good all rounder with individual charging.
Edit: Does anyone happen to know if any of the following chargers are more better in any way? 7dayshop Multi Mode LCD Intelligent Ni-Mh Battery Charger UNiROSS 1 Hour Ultimate AA/AAA battery charger RS700 LA CROSSE
