For a dare I once ate 20 jalepeños in a row. I have also got blind-drunk until 5am the day before my first scuba diving lesson. And I have jumped off a 40ft pier into freezing water. I still consider buying the LG G3 the worst decision I have ever made.

This handset will delete and/or move your content as if possessed. It'll be as responsive to touch as my fiancé after a 13 hour shift in A&E. It will brag of it's multitasking capabilities and moments later develop early onset Alzheimer's. This feature is particularly fun when you are driving in central London using the Sat Nav and you get a fun little phone call that even if rejected, will prompt a fun little game of 'Enter Postcode'.

The phone has an additional feature not advertised: by leaving the handset switched on for more than an hour you will engage 'Heat Mode'. This handy little function will enable you to cook an egg or murder 10 million sperm depending on the location of the handset.

The phone also freezes. A lot. I'm not kidding, the software is as stable as a fat kid on a tightrope. Heading towards a cake. Whilst balancing a sofa on his head. With 2 people sat on it. Wrestling.

LG G3, Ebola, Syria: Avoid them all. Especially in that order.

Congratulations on a beautifully written post. It is, however, at complete variance to my experience.

The only issue I have is that there is a bug causing a message about the settings app to pop up infrequently. The battery is about a year old and is starting to show its age, but that is OK because I can buy and install a new one for a little over a tenner.

Had the G3 for over a year, I'm picky with phones so I tend to buy the more expensive handsets. The G3 has been a great phone, performance is superb, screen is stunning, battery life is good, never had freezes, heat, or any other issues. The only thing you need to watch out for is the design fault in the white ones, they case can develop small cracks.

Condemning all G3s because you had a duff handset is a touch misleading, you could have just returned it for a replacement.

Excellent phone, at this price you're getting a lot for your money, in the unlikely event you have any issues then just return or exchange.

Very witty post and all that but factually it is the complete opposite of my experience with an LG G3 which i've had for almost a year now. Battery life is ok but not brilliant and just once it did get hot when using using the satnav in the car on a hot sunny day but other than that, it has been perfect. No crashes, stutters or any other form of problem. Very quickly get used to the on/off double tap and having the controls on the back. I use mine with a Quick Circle smart Flip case cover and it fits easily in my trouser pocket. At £199 it is a bargain.

I have a LG G3, bought it around 6 months ago now, it's the 3GB RAM 32GB model, I've never had ANY of these problems. There's only two issues I have with the phone, one is that if you use a AUX cord without a mic in it, the phone will go crazy when the wire bends and bring up voice-mate, this is terrible if you want to listen to music in the car, the other is the bland OS, I would love to have stock Google on it but I just don't have the time to stick it in and continuously update it. Other than that, it's the best phone I've ever owned. (For anyone getting homescreen lag, download NovaLauncher Prime and put on 'aggressive acceleration' or something, makes everything fast and smooth)

I second these comments. I tried a G3 for a week when it came out, planning to upgrade from my G2, but the phone just drove me mad. Had many of the glitches this poster had mentioned, including the SatNav completely forgetting where it was taking me in the middle of the drive. Gave up and came back to my G2 which I still have. I also have an LG Gpad 8.0 which needs to be reset every 3 months or so otherwise I start getting messages like 'Unfortunately Chrome has stopped, 'Unfortunately GApps have stopped' and finally the 'Android UI' stops which necessitates a total reset. Been planning to flash the fantastic Cyanogenmod available for it but haven't had the time yet.

I still cannot understand why the likes of Samsung and LG cannot leave perfectly functional vanilla Android on their devices. They spend millions of dollars hiring teams of devs to skin out their mobile devices with buggy, next-to-worthless UIs which cause them to crash, overheat, randomly reboot, slow down to a crawl and make life a general misery for the poor sods who buy them only for the hardware, while in the meantime driving a significant number of potential buyers to Google Nexus devices!!

iv had mine for about 8 months - screen is great, camera is great. dont use the LG launcher (which is laggy) - use nova so no lag.
my problems with it are that its not great for signal - sitting next to an iphone getting almost full signal my g3 has none. consistently no signal in areas of great signal. an then in areas of poor signal - picking the phone up means you lose all signal. battery life isnt amazing but what is these days

Hardware wise the phone is fantastic and still has about the best screen size vs body ratio on the market, the problems stem from the crappy LG bloated rom. Cyanogen mod is officially supported and runs great on it, smooth, battery efficient etc only small niggle is the camera is a little weaker on CM12 but its a very small price to pay. Its a great phone with the right software.

A great phone for 200 quid. I have the 32GB version which I bought from Amazon DE about 8 months ago.

There are a few niggles with the phone. But nothing in life is perfect and the good far outweigh the bad. The camera is fantastic, as is the screen and responsiveness overall. I have the LG standard OS which is running Android 5.

The only bad thing I think is the battery. I did a swap for a week with my wife's who has an S5.I found that after a normal day my LG3 would be below 15% battery, the same sort of use on the S5 I would have between 30 and 40 % remaining. Not the most sceientific of tests I know. But the battery is a bit of a let down. But I wouldnt let this put me off buying the G3

I have had mine pretty much since it came out and I think it's great! Whilst it isn't as quick as my missus Z2 it really isn't slow at all, so I'm not sure if the people who say it's slow have just installed a million apps which it will obviously slow down a bit then.

For this price to me this is an absolutely great deal! Also on Amazon for £199.95 if people would rather use them.

I've got a G3, I've seen issues with battery life which were caused by a rogue app. I also had a cracked case which LG fixed under warranty ( http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/lg-g3-owners-complain-of-cracking-issues )

However I think it's a great phone, I don't see any lag, screen is great, battery life easily lasts a full day, signal reception is great (I've used Voda and o2) and the camera is excellent.

I'd happily recommend it to others.

I have had 2 of these phones in the past. The screen at the time was super (it still is really) however technology moves on. The software is lovely not full of bloat. The only thing I don't really like is the thickness. I currently have a iPhone 6s which is 7.1mm thick and the LG is 8.9 if I remember correctly. Apart from that for £189 from argos it's a bargain. Don't forget to spend your nectar vouchers too.

When it comes to phones/electrics I've got 3 levels of sellers

1) Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, Tescos. Yes

2) ebuyer, curries/pcworld. In theory should be fine but they're not keen on customer service. If you have a real problem you'll be ok but if you have changed your mind expect a lot of hassle

3) overseas, random London business. No

The deals doing the rounds were for level 2

You put Argos above Curry's/PC World?!

They are equally bad when it comes to customer service. Argos also refuse to refund items that have been purchased in store - even if they are unopened. (They may have changed this policy - but I couldn't believe it when they pulled that trick on me last year).

Way way way above. Never had a problem taking things back to Argos, and I've taken a lot back over the years. I know they got a bit stricter though as a lot of people were taking the mic

- pcworld, my brothers new pc was doa, they made him wait for 2 hours while they tested it instore
- pcworld, bought a camera, left the shop and walked back in 30 mins later as I thought it was broken, they wouldn't test it or refund it. 30 mins!

- curries online. Bought some speakers which were awful quality so tried to get a refund, managed eventually after arguing (they were 'used' because I tried them), had to bring up the various laws to get them to do it. They also admitted that if I had bought them in store they would have refused anyway
claym0re

To be fair, it has moved on a bit since 'when it came out' and is on a totally different version of Android plus firmware fixes. I've never seen any overheating issues or major lock-ups personally and in terms of bloat there is very little on this phone and what there is LG allow you to easily uninstall with a couple of clicks.

I have vanilla Android on other Nexus phones and tablets and this one isn't hugely different - certainly compared to the stuff Samsung force on you.

<£200 is a great price. Probably worth £50 extra for a G4 for the better camera but perhaps not £100 IMHO. LG customer service were very good also when mine developed a small crack in the case.

I picked up for G4 for £285 from ebuyer yesterday who only deal in UK stock, to get a G4 for cheaper you would probably get a asian import I did look and wasnt prepared to risk it for a £20 saving, this is a cracking phone for a great price but if you can get the LG G4 for under £300 from a reputable seller I would do that

I do no want to get a new phone for another 3 years (had my nexus 4 for the past 3) so Im glad I got the G4 over the G3

I bought my LG G3 from Amazon.de... My G3 is the 32gb with 3gb ram... Overall I've loved the phone... Love the fact it has a removable battery ( I currently use a zerolemon battery, as I am a heavy user) and love the fact I can run a 128gb sd card on it. The only issue that I have came across is my digitalizer which has messed up and I have a few dead spots on my screen.. I think that was down to me dropping my phone.. Nevertheless brilliant phone..
moneysavingkitten
28 Oct 15 #70
Jesus, that's just awful they would actually check the machine was broken before they took it back, how dare they!

I assume when you say 'thought the camera was broken' it wasn't actually broken then? It was user error.

Should have sent a picture to the Daily Mail, with you, the speakers and a very sad face.

Checking the machine for 2 hours. It wouldn't turn on. Why does that require 2 hours instore?

The camera had a bit of plastic stuck in the usb port. technically broken but easily repairable. Not user error

Brilliant phone apart from battery life but all of these QHD displays suffer from this.
I had one from June last year only recently selling it.
It had its problems when first released overheating, rebooting but these have since been sorted with updates.
I usually change my phones quite often but couldnt see anything that would better the G3.
Did look at the G4 but the upgrade was minimal only just changed to a Moto Style.

28 Oct 15 #76
Between the rubbish battery life (QHD display is so power hungry) and the god-awful UI lag, this is the very worst phone I've ever owned. I've flashed custom ROMs, patched to change thermal throttling settings, run it without a case (and dropped it, lessening resale value), switched CPU governor, and aggressively closed background tasks (a no-no for Linux OS, but I was desperate), and it's still sluggish. Plus, the LG bloatware is pointless. Last non-Nexus device I buy.

Not voted; Good price, crappy product. Would devour an S5 at this price (Samsung's then competitor and flagship).

I upgraded from the S4 to the LG G3 and I personally prefer the S4 as the battery was better and it didn't lag as much as the LG G3. Only one area the LG G3 would win easily is the Camera.

Pros:
Camera
Screen Display

Cons:
Quite heavy
Battery life poor
Quite a lot of Lag

you completely mistook it. what i meant was instead of paying extra 100 for g4 you can save that. being owner of both phones i can tell you there isn't huge difference in g3 and g4. G4 does have a better contrast , just 10% snappier than g3, slightly and i mean just slightly better handling due to curvey body but all these are not like a day night differences. i would suggest save your 100 quid and buy G4. hippie this clarify any confusion

I am sooo tempted to get this phone. Been looking for an upgrade from my Moto G 1st Gen for almost the last year. This price is made even more enticing when I received 7% off through Flubit, bring the price down to £186. The only issue I have is the negative comments about battery life. Also I read that the 32GB with 3GB RAM is much better. But I can't find it anywhere :disappointed:

This is a great price for the G3. The camera is fantastic, the battery lasts me a full day, performance is good and I've experienced no lag. Apparently it's going to be getting the Marshmallow update, which is nice!

He's not wrong. The version with 3Gb RAM and the versions that received firmware updates were good devices.

The 16Gb version stuck on a broken Android 5.0 was unutterably awful and fundamentally broken and still is. The Android 6 update won't be until the end of the year.

I've had one for about 9 months and paid £250. Nice phone but biggest problem by far with this and Android 5.x is that it keeps rebooting after a while. Apparently I've read this is a memory leak and a bug in the software, but two updates onwards and still not fixed. Bring on Marshmallow which will hopefully fix it!

I get around 2 days of battery life out of mine, screen is great and no overheating issues. 16GB model, which I twrp'd, rooted, and then flashed a vanilla european image with hardly any bloatware. I was going to go for a G4 last week, but I'm still very happy with the G3 and reckon it's got another year of usage left. The camera is very good, highly recommend it.

ive had this for around 8 months and very happy with it. Equivalent to Samsung S5 quality i think. One little issue has developed in the last couple of weeks, the sensitivity of the middle of the screen has gone sku wif, either doesnt respond or too sensitive, im not sure why this has kicked off, this isnt a showstopper though just a little annoyance.

28 Oct 15 #107
Good deal. A lot of phone for the money, but the battery is a significant problem if you use the phone more than lightly and have anything less than a very strong signal. I ditched mine after 6 months and moved to a Moto X Play (£215 through Bespoke). The G3 had a superior camera and wireless charging, but the Play safely gets me through any amount of daily use without heading for the charger. The screen on the Play - whilst not as sharp as the LG - is a lot brighter, with better contrast levels.

That said, if you're a lighter user and want a phone with a great camera, the LG is a good choice at this price.

I wonder why there is no 32gb version in UK. I bought mine in Germany and is very good. In terms of batt life, buy spare and keep it charged with you when you need it. I tend to use mine approx. once a week. Other than that it is ok. It crashed first time today, after 10 months.

There may be a setting you can tweak to switch on a-gps (assisted gps) which triangulates your location using cell towers, and then refines it using satellites.

I seriously doubt this is £100 better than the Smart Ultra 6.
therealjohnpeat to MadeInBeats
14 Nov 15 1 #147
I had a chance to use these side-by-side yesterday - it's impossible to say something is worth twice-as-much, but I saw nothing significant to make me want the G3 over the U6 (I bought a U6 in the end)

1 - G3 is nicer to hold, made of better materials for sure but it's still a bit plasticy imo
2 - G3 has a user-replaceable battery - U6 is sealed shut with SIM and SD stored in pop-outs
3 - Ultra6 has proper buttons (G3 uses on-screen soft-buttons)
4 - Ultra6 screen is slightly less 'rich' but both are IPS so lose-out to Sony/Samsung etc. screens
5 - G3 obviously has a LOT more support/accessories - may even get Marshmallow wheras I suspect Ultra6 owners will have to rely on root and rom if they want upgrades!?

The U6 isn't half-the-phone by any means - I think the more pertinent point is that a 32Gb G4 is only £70 more than the G3 and that makes MUCH more sense (spent £100 for a bit of a bump or £170 for a LOT of a bump)
Picard123 to MadeInBeats

14 Nov 15 #148
how can mid range phones compete on price? X Play he nowhere near the spec but is £50 more. Tempted to see if the G4 will be reduced this month further, particularly if a new handset may be out
therealjohnpeat to robchester
15 Nov 15 #149
The thing which amazes me isn't the enormous gap in handset pricing (mostly explained by more expensive phones almost entirely being purchased through contracts) but the fact there is a thriving market in pre-owned devices which makes NO sense.

If you had £150 to spend you could have a Moto-G 3rd, an Ultra 6 or someone's cast-off S4 from somewhere like CEX which - although they offer some warranty - just isn't going to be a 'new product' by any means (and some of their devices are positively tatty-as-hell but the prices are still strong)

CEX want £80 for a Grade B S3 - that would buy you a brand new Prime 6 which is easily comparable in performance and not at least 3 years old!!

I know most devices CEX get are 'cashed in contracts' (people get a new phone on contract and either sell the old or new handset to get money in their pockets) but I don't get who BUYS a flagship phone from CEX (used/limited warranty) for £500+ (and I shudder than someone lets them have it for the £300-odd they likely offered!!)

I have G4 and it's the best phone I've had, and I've had a few including iPhones, and various Androids.Operating system is great, pretty clean, much more so than Samsung with all it's bloatware. Suggest an additional £90 for a G4 is money well spent.
MadeInBeats

But how so? £100 better? They both have 13mpx cameras! Have you used both?
Badongkadong
16 Nov 15 #153
Megapixels do not denote the quality of the camera. I've used the G3 as I bought one for my dad, the screen and camera is superior to my Xperia Z3 so what chance does no brand have? If you have both devices to test I'll love to see a comparison.
MadeInBeats
16 Nov 15 #154
I understand lenses come in varying quality , normally comes down to if it can take a good low light level shot with phones, HOWEVER... £100 better? I could buy the Smart Ultra 6 and then spend the £100 extra on a digital camera that would drive the camera quality of both phones into the ground if we're talking about David Bailey aspirations here not and just taking annoying selfie shots to post on Facebook to say 'look at me', instead of look at this great shot I just captured.

The difference in camera quality between the G3 and the Vodafone/Huwei is about the size of the Grand Canyon. Where do you think they've skimped to reach a £100 price point? Pretty silly to even be comparing them. Go for a night out with the Vodafone/Huwei. The pictures that come back are abysmal:

http://cdn0.mos.techradar.futurecdn.net/art/mobile_phones/Vodafone/Smart%206%20Ultra/Camera%20samples/Low%20light.jpg

Even daytime shots can be overblown.

http://cdn0.mos.techradar.futurecdn.net/art/mobile_phones/Vodafone/Smart%206%20Ultra/Camera%20samples/dynamic%20range.jpg

That is just plain bad:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0w1NwXkGHw

Nothing against the Ultra 6 if all you want is a basic budget phone but if you want photos to cherish, it's the last camera phone you'd want to be using as half of them will come back as noisy, underexposed, blurry mess.
MadeInBeats
17 Nov 15 #157
Basically everything I said. The point still stands... £100 extra for better low light photos? Don't know about that.

From the same 4/5 star TechRadar review you got those photos from:

"The Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 is one of the most exciting devices of the year at this price point, and as such is well worth a look, especially if you're on Vodafone's network already."
Picard123
17 Nov 15 #158
You sound like someone with their hands over their ears singing 'la la la la la la la' at of the top of their voice.

The Smart Ultra is great phone.......but for something costing £100 at the budget end of the phone market and if you don't mind dismal photos and bad video.
MadeInBeats
17 Nov 15 #159
Errr, I think you'll find that's you, pal. You basically replied to me repeating everything I said then intimated the £100 extra is worth it so you can take slightly better pics of something extremely important, at night.

I think I'll trust the 4/5 star TechRepublic review (you yourself posted) over your scrambling to justify the £100 you revealed yourself of up the wall... good luck with that.
Picard123
17 Nov 15 #160
The camera on the Smart Ultra is poor to very poor compared to the best smartphone cameras. Everyone in the 'know' accepts that. Even the positive reviews of the phone describe it as mediocre at best. It's only the 'how many megapixels has it got?' crowd (such as yourself) who don't understand photo and video quality who think otherwise, and that's only because they have no idea what a good camera should be like.

This is probably going to be wasted on you, but watch this video and try and learn something:

The best camera is the one you always have at hand. I can count the number of times when I carry my DSLR with me in a year. Even with a compact camera it won't always be there with me so the G3 wins hands down. At 200 quid it's not a debate you can win unless you can convince everyone to carry a compact camera with them at the same time as their mobile.
MadeInBeats
25 Nov 15 #167
It is when it's half the price. :smirk:
Picard123
25 Nov 15 #168
Then you're an idiot if you think people are going to go everywhere with a 5.5" phone in one pocket and a DLSR in the other.
Badongkadong
25 Nov 15 #169
Again, it's entirely subjective. As I said, how often do you find yourself carrying a compact camera and a smartphone? You'll be lying to yourself if you said it was often and that everyone does it.
MadeInBeats to Badongkadong
25 Nov 15 #170
I think you're lying to yourself if you think shops up and down the country are selling digital cameras because no one is buying them
Badongkadong
25 Nov 15 #171
I never said that, you are putting words in my mouth. I'm not the one claiming that it is instantly better value to have a 100 quid phone because you can spend the 100 quid separately on a half decent compact camera. The G3 wipes the floor with Vodafone Smart, there is no contest and at this price it is fantastic value. You are simply digging a hole for yourself.
MadeInBeats
25 Nov 15 #172
Seriously, you've been living in the Facebook selfie fantasy bubble for too long. A fool and their money... enjoy wiping the floor with dat KitKat and 2.1 front facing...
Badongkadong
25 Nov 15 #173
Not sure what would you live in, the G3 is one of the first to get Lollipop. Are you seriously dissing it's front facing camera? Something that I've used a handful of times at most? I don't even own a G3 but bought one for a relative because it was good value. Keep digging that hole though.
MadeInBeats
25 Nov 15 #174
Ohhhh, so you were spending someone else's money whom may read this thread... I'd be highly defensive too if I owed someone £100. Is this boorish egotistical workout over then? Good.
Badongkadong
25 Nov 15 #175
Again, incorrect assumption just like your other posts. I bought a gift with my own money. I know the concept of gifting is beyond your scope of thinking but not everyone thinks about just themselves. Keep digging, you might reach the other side at this rate.
MadeInBeats
25 Nov 15 #176
Oh really.. well, I wasn't going to mention it, but I actually know the original designer and engineer of the LG G3, that person is my uncle, and his waist size is 32"... he admits the Ultra 6 is a better buy...

There, you forced it out of me.

25 Nov 15 #177
If you're going to resort to making things up to make yourself feel better then I pity you. I can actually post a receipt to show that I purchased the G3 but it would be lost on you. Hopefully the mods will see what a time waster you are and act appropriately.
