Your link is quite right,its a bit cheeky marketing these sets as 4K when they do not meet the minimum reqiurements to carry the 4K UHD logo which these sets don't have on them so LG are aware of their non conformance i found an interesting review here.

This one caught my eye earlier in Currys. Me and missus narrowed things down to this or the Samsung JU6800 (£900). The Samsung was a winner on the side by side testing we did with the same source files (Transformers 4, Elysium, and the 4K show off footage). Not much in it in truth but I felt the colours on the Samsung won and, in football footage, the detail in the "out of focus" parts of the picture was really impressive.
Also, connectivity isn't great on this one. Still, a very good looking set to my eyes.
To caveat all of this, I'm used to a Samsung LCD that is about 7 years old.

I always thought that samsung colours are so much better so thought I would try one of LG's Unique IPS panel tv's. Although advertised on LG's website as having their unique IPS panel I find it has a VA panel by AU Optronics. I doubt very much that I will buy an LG tv again as the failure to correctly describe products for sale at LG's level is unacceptable.

Having had the delight of dealing with Samsung customer service I'll never entertain their products again. Shocking is not even close to how I found it!
Store sets are rarely set up right anyway, usually they are set to store demo mode and Samsung have a habit of ramping up the colour.
Also when doing a side by side test its usually better to do it in a viewing room rather than a showroom as viewing rooms are set up with residential lighting and showrooms usually have commercial sodium based which does affect what you are seeing on the screen.
The Sammy may well have the better panel but I would never go by a showroom viewing as a decision maker.

Well, I only had 15 minutes or so with each in Currys to base my opinion on so wont pretend to have any super opinion but first impressions were better with the JU6800. I've read some complaints about the 55 inch model but the one I stood and watched was fantastic in my opinion. It basically ticked all the boxes. A little over the budget I had in mind but I think it would be money well spent for me.
My only issue was the stand shape. I picked up a Sonos Playbar so ideally want a stand that it can slot nicely against. The JU6800 isn't great for that. The chap in the shop said Samsung do a "normal" looking stand though I haven't found evidence of that online.

whoever made what your having issues with id go straight to them, miss out currys as they will usually only contact them for you, waste of space imho. ive had 2 things fail under warranty recently and i wasn't happy with the time i had to wait for repair, im talking weeks not days im not that impatient :wink:

That's an interesting point tbh and was pointed out by someone else I am possibly better off with the VA panel however I find it juddery on slow moving shots, usually chat and game shows which I find surprising. My old LD450 LG did not do that. It's quite annoying and not sure if it's down to the panel or how the signal is being processed. It is fine on fast moving objects which the old LD450 wasn't.
My main point was that LG list this as a feature but forget to mention a whole load of LB650v's which came over to the UK doesn't have it.

All fair points of course but to counter: I'm not aware of anywhere near me that has a viewing room or the stock of TV's to go in such a room for a comparison. Plus, the effort to go down this route is way too much for me! We're not talking high end sets here - yes, a chunk of cash to splash, but not your £2k+ sets. So, the majority are left with show rooms or reading suspect reviews in What HiFi to base a decision on. In other words, it's a minefield out there!!!
All I can say is that side by side the Samsung was superior to me. It's all about opinions but if if that was the Samsung demo mode then I'd be leaving it set up as such as I was thoroughly impressed. My experience with Samsung TVs have been highly positive too but have read enough online to see that many have had problems (as they have done with all manufacturers).

You are entitled to 2 years warranty under EU law and believe it or not you can make a claim up to 6 years under our own consumer laws. My son did this with a tv that was 2 years and 9 months old with a panel fault. Currys came and picked it up and repaired it free of charge. You need to be able to quote our laws and put a good case forward. I doubt if he had bought a cheap brand and ran it for 24 hours a day he would have stood a chance but the brand was Samsung costing £389.00 with little use, 2,500 hours total.

The more people that do this the better our products will become because manufacturers won't be able to get away with cheap parts on their electronics because it will cost them money in the end.
Companies like John Lewis and Richer Sounds are not really giving you a free guarantee they are just being honest with the laws in the country. A lot of retailers are not even conforming to offering the 2 year warranty under EU law. We are at present a member of the EU. They just hope you will go away and buy something else but quote our laws to them and they have to buckle.

Cheeky marketing, twisting the facts to suit the result or just a bare faced lie on their website in the case of my last purchase. I said I wouldn't buy another LG tv but the UF770V was looking very tempting in Currys today. Just a shame it has webos. Such a shame LG have made it so hard to eject a usb drive. The menu system of the new range of LG's has been designed by a complete fool who must have thought how can I make simple things much more complicated. He must be related to the same fool who thought it would be a good idea to put feet towards the edges of the tv.

Yes i am aware of what you said and totally agreed but its a hassle in the end which could be very hectic in some cases and not everyone has the time and patience to go through such things eventually.
