Hi, thanks for the advice, Smarguy1. Just to clarify - will all of these LG ULTRA 49UF675V 4K tvs have the same product code on the back? (sorry if it's a dumb question, I just don't want to get caught out!)

I am so tempted to get this TV to use as a monitor for editing my photography on. The reviews are awesome. It's interesting how often 4K tv reviews don't rave about how good the picture is which lets be honest is THE main feature whereas all the reviews I've seen about this TV all say how amazing the images are. What if it drops in price after I buy it though? I've been saying that about 4K tvs for about a year now - time to take the plunge methinks. gadzooks!

Well I am not an expert but it's probably one that's not in the list lol. Television viewing is very much a personal thing. The experts will sl*g off LG's for it's poor blacks (Light Graphics) is what they nickname LG. . My next tv however is unlikely to be LG but that will depend on what is available, spec, price etc.

If you have a look at rtings.com you can see a good range of 2014 and 2015 models they have tested. LG's always score low because of the blacks but rather than getting some fancy equipment out and seeing how they do in test, I prefer just to test with the naked eye.

I bought our 50LB650V because it was advertised with having an LG panel. 10 months later I find it hasn't. It has one made by AU Optronics. IWe also have another LG which has the CHI MEI panel in it. So much better than our old LT75. It's ok. The forums seem to criticise this manufacturer but to me it has a good picture.

The AU Optronics panel in our living room tv shows good display in HD and copes with fast motion very well. F1 is amazing to watch. However. On some programmes it is quite twitchy, jerky or juddery usually with small movements of people's heads. Something that was not there on our previous LG from 5 years ago although that one didn't cope anywhere near as well with fast moving objects. It's a bit annoying and maybe common in the new tv's although this could be the way the programme is transmitted and perhaps not the tv or the panel processing as it only does it on some programmes. It's a nice quality picture on HD. The AU Optronics panel would appear to be a better option than the CHI MEI panel according to the forums.

With such a choice of panels available on LG's and Samsungs it would be nice to be able to pick the manufacturer's own panel. In my opinion I think their panels will always be superior but would I notice the difference. Perhaps, but my gut feeling is that an LG with an LG panel or a Samsung with a Samsung panel will always be better. Is there truth in the rumour that Samsung ensure their tv's have their own panel in the tv when it goes for a technical review. Now why is that. Because it's better and Samsung know it.

Hope this helps but to add my son's Samsung had a beautiful picture and it has a Sharp panel in it. Unfortunately the panel failed after 2,600 hours of use. That's 2.5 hours a day in the 2 years 9 months. Currys repaired it free of charge though thanks to our 6 year consumer law and my son being able to use it to the letter.

Unfortunately not in everything but thanks for the complement. I have to admit it took me a long time to source the information but found it in the end. Please bear in mind though that LG could change this anytime although the information was up to date as at 2014. My own tv has a December 2014 production stamp on it, was made in Poland and it all checks out with the references in my previous post.

The main reason I wanted to find this info is I purchased my current tv in January believing that it had an IPS panel by LG. In casual conversation with another member it was pointed out to me that the panel in my tv did not have an LG IPS panel as all of the replacement parts for my tv pointed to AU Optronics. To cut a long story short I started to do my own research and have learnt quite a lot on panels, manufacturers etc etc. The tv I have is still advertised on LG's website as having LG's Unique IPS panel. It doesn't. They have deliberately misled people on the website leading people into thinking that there is no panel lottery on my particular model which must be a major selling factor. With reference to this my purchase for the LG may have swayed me from Samsung who openly admit they outsource panels for their tv's.

I also think that false information may be given to retailers as after checking all of the LG's for sale on the JL website, sad I know, but just about every single LG tv that is not OLED on the JL website is advertised as having an IPS panel. This does not correspond with LG's own website and saw yesterday a post pointing to Amazon for the UF770V, again being advertised by Amazon as having an IPS panel but not confirmed on LG's website.

These models may have an IPS panel r they may not but at least the list is there for people to check and it would be interesting to see which tv's have which panel in them. I should start an LG blog......Most people possibly don't care, are happy with what they have bought or just assume that if they buy Samsung, Sony, Panasonic or LG that it has the manufacturer's panel in. Not so I'm afraid, not even with Sony.

Just for the record Currys who I bought my own tv from said it was too late for me to complain of the 'mis-selling'. I beg to differ however I have decided not to pursue my claim further with them.

All true. Once consumers begin viewing SmartTVs in a similar way to Smartphones, things may change - anyone buying a phone these days will expect their phone to get regular updates (and if they don't... well, just ask Motorola). It won't be long before they'll expect the same kind of commitment from TV manufacturers.

The problem with apps built into TVs is that manufacturers do not keep updating the built-in apps to be able to keep working with the constantly updated APIs of these apps by the app owners. I have yet to see a Smart TV whose apps all work perfectly 2 years after purchase (correct me if I'm wrong). Buy a Now TV or Fire Stick and you'll have working apps for a far longer timescale. Even better a Chromecast as that's even more futureproof.

Further, there is no financial incentive for TV manufacturers to keep supporting built-in apps in older TVs when improvements in smart functionality by itself is billed as a USP in their newer product lines.

Bauhn have apparently told one member that the TV on offer is different to the previous models. Looking at the picture on the thread the TV certainly differs from the previous model if indeed that is the TV they are actually selling.

I think this is awesome and nearly bit. I seen somewhere people talking about no HDMI 2.0 and it is not a smart TV. but can you not just buy a fire stick or equivalent to make it a smart TV? looks a bargain to be if so

I haven't seen one review for the Bauhn 48" TV. The only review I've come across for a 50" one is dreadful. Someone claims to have seen one review in the comments section for the 48" as well. Which is one star and don't bother basically.

Lots of savvy consumers are buying Chinese brands they`ve never heard of (not TV`s mind), in their droves. Aldi (major supermarket chain now) offer a 3 yr warranty on the Bauhn. I mean, you could buy a Panasonic or JVC or Hitachi..... you`ve heard of THEM , right? :smirk:

I's not shown as having an IPS screen on LG's website. Seeing as LG push their 'LG's unique IPS panel' you would think they would at least put it on their website. Checking the boxes in Currys the other day the only tv which says it has 4k IPS on the box is the UF850V.

For the record my LG bought in January was advertised (and still is) on LG's website as having the LG unique IPS panel. It hasn't. It has a A-MVA panel by AU Optronics. So even manufacturers LIE, I mean make mistakes on their websites.
