If it helps you can hire a small car for just over £40 for a week from this company which includes two named drivers. I've used them loads and never had any issues. http://www.arcarhire.com/car-hire/bookings-P2.php

You guys talking about Playa Blanca the Costa Mar is close to Matagorda ....Porta Del Carmen the airport is no problem the sound is minimal.
The hotel is way out from the main bars and old town the Costa Mar and it commercial precinct was run down when I walked around it in June. great location for the beach.
Taxi from the airport will be 10 to 15 Euros.
Hot for me Playa Del Carmen and good price for what you will get.

We stayed at Playa Blanca a few years ago and while it was a lovely clean resort and there was plenty to do and see around the island including the ferry across to Fuerteventura but it really is dead at night, quite strange really as there were quite a few bars and a lot tourists but nobody went in them, everyone just seemed to walk up and down the very long promenade all night!
We're not all night ravers! But nightt time is a big part of an holiday and when there's nothing to do it does get a little boring and in our hotel (iberostar) there was no entertainment.
It's a good deal and a lovely place during the day, just make sure you sort your own night time entertainment!

Costa Teguise is nice enough. No issues for us with being so close to airport and it's an easy and cheap taxi.
Playa Blanca is a nice place! Have no worries about going there.

Jesus you lot make hard work of things the resort is clear enough if you click the link, pretty reasonable price for a taxi.
Playa Blanca is nice enough but not as mice as it was 20 years ago when it was still a bit more sleepy and "original" before the big hotels went in. Its still a great quiet holiday resort for families with minimal nightlife. Swings and roundabouts re weather tho, can be warmer but as west facing can also get breeze from Atlantic. I prefer Costa Teguise but that's mostly because I know it lol
Wherever you go you'll have a nice holiday and the whole island is accessible easily no matter where you are.
PS don't eat the geothermal heat cooked chicken at Timanfaya.

£10 for a taxi... To which resort exactly?

Voted COLD because its actually not £79 per person. Its £135 per person... You should bait people in with a misleading title. Not everyone has kids therefore you should make that clear in the title.

Playa Blanca is cleaner and not as tacky as the other resorts , but its quiet at night ( so don't go there for nightlife ). The location of your hotel/apartment is important though as its a very spread out resort. You get better winter weather at Playa Blanca too ( its a few degrees warmer and less windy ).

[quote=Rich44]Its very close to the airport which could be both good and bad. Personally love Costa Teguise, Playa Blanca used to be really nice but bit over developed now. Great holiday destination Lanzarote, highly recommend a coach trip or hire a car to go to Timanfaya and Mirador del Rio also check out César Manrique's home.[/quote
