Frank Capra directs this heartwarming Christmas fantasy. George Bailey (James Stewart) has spent his entire life in the small town of Bedford Falls. Despite his yearning to see the world, George has always sacrificed his personal ambitions for the sake of his family and the local community, settling down to marry his childhood sweetheart, Mary (Donna Reed), and raise a family. However, when a huge amount of money goes missing from the savings and loans company he panics and finds himself preparing to commit suicide. However, he is shown the error of this idea by Clarence (Henry Travers), an angel who has been sent to Earth in order to earn his wings. To this end, Clarence shows George just how badly Bedford Falls and its residents would have turned out had he never been born.
Run Time: Colour: 131 mins approx. Black & White: 130 mins approx.

I would advise everyone to watch the superlative original black & white version.
As my mother points out to me every time the topic of this great movie arises, there's nothing quite as queer as watching the colourised version only to notice that they forgot to do the inside of everyones mouths, so they are all eerily monochrome inside!
edit: I notice there is a THIRD attempt at colouring this great movie (WHY OH WHY?) in 2007, I imagine this will be the go to version now - maybe they remembered to colour in the palate, gums and tongues this time
Anyway, I think the deal needs expired or the price updated, showing £8 for me now.

This film ABSOLUTELY has to be in bluray. Let's face it, how else can one appreciate true 1946 cinematography unless it is in high definition.
Now where did I put that tongue and cheek kit....

No need for that, maybe just the dunces cap, because as any fule kno, the resolution of film is far superior to that of any conventional home Blu-Ray...

Can't you just turn the colour down on the TV if you want to see it in Black and white?

I bought this last year, great Christmas film.
I first watched it in black & white and then watched it in colour, I was surprised how nice the colour version looked.
With regards to the discussion of such an old film being put on HD Blu-ray I would say that material shot on 35mm film is equivalent to 4K in terms of resolution, there is a discussion about it in this LINK.
I've got quite a few films on Blu-Ray from the 1930's and earlier like Dracula and they look gorgeous and that's just 1080p.
Here are a few YouTube videos showcasing film restoration of some old classics including Dracula.
