Top cash back is pain . I have done few times in the past but not impressive. Some times your cash back can be declined or if you are lucky then minimum 6 months to receive cash back. PAIN

I posted a question in the ask section a week or so ago. Basically I've had a NAS for years but it is on its last legs. So I need to replace it. Originally it was used properly as a NAS but now I use dropbox for all work type files and it is just used as a media server. So I need to replace the NAS.
I'm thinking of using one of these instead.
My idea was to use it under the TV in the lounge and have it connected directly to the TV. It could then run Kodi displaying direct on the TV. I would also want the bublleupnp transcoding server to run on it so that I can cast media from it to the other TVs via chromecasts.
So questions...
1. Is the video card in this capable enough to output video to the TV at 1080p?
2. Is it quiet enough to run under the TV. A small amount of noise is acceptable - we can already hear the virgin tivo box if it is quiet in the room.
3. Would it be powerful enough to transcode for bubbleupnp (at at least 720p)?
4. Does it take long to resume from standby? I would like to just be able to turn it off for the night etc - I guess standby would be the best option?
Anything else to consider? I was thinking of maybe getting a second hand laptop (perhaps with a broken screen) to do the job - but am now thinking for similar money this might be better?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It may be a typo. They specify it is an Intel 82579, which is definitely a gigabit device.

Superb little machine, I have one with an extra 2GB memory installed (total 4GB) and with 4x western digital 3TB red drives installed, running Xpenology.
Perfect media and data server at home.

Wanted this for ages, thought the cashback offers had all gone but glad its back. Ordered it yesterday, will use this initially for my little lab and eventually as a general fileserver/nas which why I'm sticking with this as a tiny system with tiny power requirements (apparently around 30W) over some of the bigger Dell & Lenovo options. I would day that if you want a machine as a virtualisation beast then probably best to look at those bigger systems with more expandibility.

I have ordered this now, just looking out for a decent SSD to install Server 2012 on then will sort the 4 bays out for storage :smiley:

Gutted! I bought one from dabs near the end of last months cashback offer and they held off delivering it until the next month as they said there was a problem with their supplier (even though the site said it was in stock). They then changed the site status. I decided to wait due to it being sold out @ ~£165 everywhere else and as soon as November came they sent it out. So even though it was bought in October it was not eligible due to it being invoiced and delivered in November. The cashback offer was now gone/invalid.
Now they start a new one from 16th, I guess so they wouldn't have to pay all those who spilled into the start of the month. I had sold my older N54L which is why I didn't just cancel and return, and I just accepted that the offer had passed. :smirk:

Deal disappeared overnight since out of stock as explained above - Xenon version was £240 and with £70 cashback =£170 :innocent: :disappointed: Missed it.
I had the 54L but just upgraded to the Dell T20 and for £10 more after cashback it makes this poor value as the Dell has a Xenon CPU and takes none ECC ram its just a way more powerful server.
Sorry never saw the price after cashback, it makes this a decent deal.

I've got two of these with Xeons and fully specced up, they are great machines, sure there have been better Dell & Lenovo deals but you can't beat HP kit.
